Murphy and I just got back from a lovely extra long afternoon walk. It’s his birthday after all, and I love spoiling him!

Workout

Before our walk, I headed out for a run. The beautiful weather inspired me to get moving. I mean, it isn’t always this gorgeous in Boston, so I need to take advantage while I can!

I guess I was really in the mood to run because I busted out some speedy miles. My last two miles were sub-8:00! Who am I!? I finished 3.1 miles in 25:21 (8:09 pace).

Once I finished my run, I grabbed some Brew GU GU Brew and the pug (who licked me to death), and headed out for a long walk. I kept my Timex GPS Watch running, so I could see how far Murphy and I walked. We covered just about two miles together.

Lunch

Before my run and pug walk, I ate lunch, which was “Oatmeal” Minus the Oats, but instead of mashed banana, I used pureed sweet potato (about 1/2 – 2/3 cup) in the recipe. Also in the mix: sliced almonds, chia seeds, and, of course, almond butter since it was in a nearly empty jar. The sweet potato variation of this recipe is definitely a winner. I want it for breakfast tomorrow morning!

Snack

After my run and walk, I refueled with a sliced banana, peanut butter, and shredded coconut in a mug. I mashed it all together and, boy, was it delicious!

So, apparently, I’m all about the mushy, creamy comfort foods today. I wonder what that’s about?

Question of the Day

What kind of foods do you tend to crave? Sweet? Salty? Something else?

Beside creamy comfort foods, I also crave nuts and nut butter quite frequently””oh, and beer”¦ often.

P.S. A huge THANK YOU to those of you who attended the Stonyfield Frozen Yogurt Twitter Party last night! It was a HUGE success (over 1 million impressions!), and it really meant a lot to me that so many of you came out for it.   2. How much nut better do go thru in a week? I was just curious because you always seem to have a jar to do ur jar breakfasts. I recently decided to go natural crunchy instead of my normal natural smooth. Holy yum!!!! Just love your blog. Are you going to do another book? I loved the first one 🙂

      1. I love it too! My new thing is a lightly salted plain rice cake with pb on it then a sliced apple…..it a nice crunchy snack in the morning at work 🙂

  3. I’m craving nut butter like crazy, that and plain soy yoghurt and lots of berries. Frozen mango puree stirred through yoghurt…AMAZING! Looks like a gorgeous day there…we’ve got torrential rain and 10 degrees, the summer is arriving a little late!

  4. I’ve been craving coconut peanut butter like it’s going to be taken off shelves tomorrow. (Earth Balance brand). It’s the best thing since sliced bread.

    I also have been craving fruit, specifically apples, and yes I might have been guilty of driving to the store to get one single apple last week. It was worth it.

  5. I made your ‘oatmeal minus the oats’ for breakfast today and added some Chobani apple/cinn yogurt for my sweet kick! Thinking about trying the sweet potato for tomorrow; love those bad boys.

  6. I always love nuts, apples, nut butter, Greek yogurt, spinach smoothies, kale chips, and fro yo. I could have those every day and be happy!

    I usually crave salty though…not so much sweet any more. Kinda weird?! I think it’s because I do so much weight training now….just a theory 😉

  7. I am so with you on craving mushy and creamy things lately. I work in the corporate world as my “day” job and they actually buy us lunch everyday. They pick a place and we write down what we ant off the menu…definitely is awesome!! I am so not complaining about a FREE LUNCH every single day. Usually, I just order a salad with chicken and add my own spices and dressing when it gets here. However, for some reason lately, the thought of eating another salad with chicken at lunch almost makes me gag (no joke). So I have been eating oatbran (from bobs mill inn) mixed with greek yogurt and nuttzo pb for lunch.. I mean, why not? It is truly what I am craving and it’s healthy and if anything more calories than the usual plain salad w/ chicken. Anyway, I am on your train of wanting mushy things lately! I can’t get enough!

  8. How many jars of any form of nut butter do you go through a week? LOL I feel like you always are adding to a jar to use last bit up. I go through at least one a week so no judgement just curious.

  9. I am craving carbs right now (damn hormones) – sweet or salty, doesn’t matter, pizza, pasta, bread, cookies… I want it all. I am curious Tina, how do you deal with those out of control monthly cravings? Do you have them pretty much under control? I can be SO strong and control myself so well until that week rolls around each month and I have no self-control. Do you have any tips?

  10. Salty and sweet! I love the Cape Cod Kettle Chips. I could eat the entire bag if I’m not paying attention. Reese peanut butter cups get me sometimes too.

  11. Aaaaagh! You just reminded me that I missed the Stonyfield twitter party last night. Sad that I missed it but glad it was a success. I have not seen the frozen yogurt in stores here in Dallas yet, but I am definitely on the lookout. I say that I crave sweet foods 90% of the time. Usually I can satisfy those cravings with greek yogurt, fruit or dark chocolate but I look forward to a weekly splurge too! Sprinkles cupcakes, a decadent dessert at a nice restaurant or ice cream are my favorites. P.S. Happy Birthday Murphy!!

  12. I love your nut butter creations! I crave almond butter or peanut butter all the time! I used to crave more salty foods but during pregnancy I started craving more sweets and now do so more often than salty.

  13. I have a ‘kettle corn’ palette for sure. I love sweet and salty combinations! I salt sweet things like peanut butter and banana oats. I have a love affair with salt going on haha.

    Your such a great Pug mom! Awesome how much joy he brings to your lives 😀 This summery Boston weather has been great! We just moved to Watertown close to the Cambridge line so super close to the Charles and Harvard Square. So many great running routes! I have been running sub 8’s over here too! I don’t even know who I am haha I literally ran 4 miles this morning at 7:55 pace. I was in shock. I almost cried. Doesn’t seeing anything under 8 minutes on your watch make you super psyched?? I’m kind of a major dork about running haha

  14. I crave chocolate all the time, especially when I’m anxious or busy or stressed (which is often, especially lately). Ever since I started running I’ve been obsessed with peanut butter.

  15. I have been trying the Oatmeal Minus the Oats and love them (thanks for the recipe). I’d been thinking about subs for the banana but am not very creative. I like the pureed sweet potato idea, I bet pumpkin would work too (will have to try that).

  16. Well chocolate always but lately I have been on a cold/creamy binge so rice and tapioca pudding and vanilla pudding. And for my savory craving…REal Foods corn cakes with some kind of nut butter

  17. I’m definitely the kind of person who craves sweet over salty. Obviously there are days when I crave something salty, but more often than not it’s something sweet. And comfort food would definitely be boxed mac & cheese which is on my meal plan for later next week. 🙂
