Back to Boston

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

So long New York City. See you in twenty days for the marathon. Eek! 😯

After a wonderful night of restful and much-needed sleep, I woke up bright-eyed and bushytailed on Theodora‘s couch. A few minutes later, she woke up and put on a fresh pot of coffee for the two of us. Great thinking, Theodora.

To my cup of coffee, I added a splash of caramel macchiato creamer, which made it taste exactly like one. Mmm! The delicious caramel flavor made it easy for me to ignore the saturated fat and scary ingredients in it! 😉

To eat, I enjoyed a bowl of oatmeal with banana slices, sunflower butter, and pumpkin pie spice. The pumpkin spice pie spice was a really nice addition to my oatmeal. It added a delicious pumpkin taste to it. (Pumpkin pie spice typically includes a mix of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, allspice, and mace.) I already added it to my grocery shopping list for this week. I’m a big fan.

After breakfast, I packed up my things, said goodbye to Theodora, and headed to the bus stop for the BoltBus. On my walk, I stopped by a café to grab lunch for the road. I wouldn’t arrive in Boston until well after lunchtime, so I made sure to bring along some food.

Fresh fruit.

A whole wheat bagel with peanut butter.

IMG_0019 (800x600)

And coconut water.

IMG_0017 (600x800)

For those of you who asked why I drink coconut water, it’s mostly because I like it, but also because it’s full of vitamins and helps with hydration. One cup of coconut water contains more electrolytes than most sports drinks, more potassium than a banana (to aid in preventing cramps), no fat, and natural sugars [source]. Usually, I just stick to water, but sometimes I like to drink something with a little bit of flavor, but not a ton of sugar like most sports drinks.

The ride back to Boston surprisingly flew by. Within minutes of boarding the BoltBus, I realized that the outlets weren’t working, which meant I wouldn’t be able to use my laptop since the battery was already dead. I thought the time would drag on without my computer, but I participated in a NuVal Twitter party and caught up on some emails on my iPhone. Before I knew it, we were at South Station.

Mal picked me up from the train station and immediately suggested stopping by Dunkin Donuts for an afternoon donut. Donut!?! My husband rules. I got a pumpkin spice donut, which tasted amazing”” very frosted and very pumpkin-y.

When we got home, Mal headed to the gym while I took my favorite pug for a long walk around the neighborhood. After spending most of the day sitting on a bus, fresh air and exercise sounded fabulous to me”” Murphy, too!

Our afternoon adventure included a good amount of power walking.

Some serious sniffing. (Look how close Murphy’s face is to that telephone pole! Ha!)

IMG_0044 (800x600)

And a brief encounter with a scary trash can.

IMG_0041 (800x600)

Trash cans always freak out Murphy, especially the ones that make noise when they roll aorund on the ground, so, of course, he barked at it.

IMG_0040 (800x600)

Eventually, I pulled Murphy away from the trash can, so he’d stop barking. As we walked away, he gave it an evil stare.

You better watch your back, trash can.

Time to start cooking dinner! Have a nice night, friends!

  1. mmmm that bagel looks doughy and delicious. I would have been bummed without a laptop, but that’s where smart phones come in I guess! Too bad I have the furthest thing from a smart phone hah.

  2. That donut looks yummy! I’m definitely going to have to stop at Dunkin. Pumpkin makes everything better, doesn’t it? Have fun cooking dinner 🙂

  3. I can only do the plain and chocolate coconut water. I really want to like the flavors, but I just can’t! I LOVE DD, but they don’t have them in Cali. I had always *liked* DD, but my senior yr. of high school we moved to Belmont, Mass. and I became obsessed! I think they taste better in MA for some reason.

  4. I have never tried coconut water. See it all around the blog world but have never given it a shot. I use that same coffee creamer. It’s the one thing that I let myself not care about (since I use so little each day) in terms of funky ingredients. 🙂

  5. Every once in awhile a flavored creamer is a nice treat. You’re right though – the weird ingredients and saturated fat is the bummer part. I wish it didn’t have all that scary stuff in it – it’s so yummy! That pumpkin spiced glazed donut looks SO good! What a great afternoon treat!

  6. I like coconut water, too, but some of the flavors end up tasting really gross. I never thought mango flavored anything could taste bad, but I was proven wrong. Murphy is too funny, my dog barks at really random stuff all the time.

  7. Glad you had fun in NY!

And pumpkin spice all around! That donut sounds mm mm good. My brother knows how much I like pumpkin-spice-everything and texted me yesterday saying that he was having pumpkin spice pancakes at IHOP. Apparently he likes to torture me since he knows I have no way of trying those out. Cruel!

  8. Yes – pumpkin pie spice is the perfect addition to oatmeal! I’ve been adding it to everything lately. I even made homemade peanut butter spiked with pumpkin pie spice and crushed graham crackers – so yummy! 😀

  9. Wow, your marathon is coming up quickly! I’m not a donut person, and it’s a good thing: I gain weight just looking at it! Kudos to you though for being able to fit food like that into a healthy lifestyle.

  10. ok, that donut…can I just say, looks amazing! I like the idea of a sweet treat on a fall afternoon. Welcome home.

  11. You have this incredible knack for capturing Murphy and narrating your fun adventures… really awesome 🙂

I dig coconut water… but brands vary greatly, right!? The best.. like Zico and a few others taste pleasant but really they are so chock full of electrolytes I drink it over fake Gatorade any day… water is awesome but for extra electrolytes needed during and after long runs coconut water is the bomb.

  12. Ha ha 😀 my Saint Bernard always freaks out at things he’s not used to seeing on the sidewalk -like the random chair someone’s left out with a “free” sign. There’s always lots if serious stares and “puff” barks 😀

  13. That donut looks amazing! And my mom’s dog is scared of all trucks. It’s hilarious. If my mom is walking the dog and a garbage truck comes around the corner, Sophie (the dog) will immediately turn around and hightail it back to the house! Scaredy-cat! 😉

  14. I drink that kind of creamer every day. One tablespoon is not a big deal, IMO. How come you weren’t concerned about the donut, though?

Here’s the ingredient list for the donut:
INGREDIENTS: Donut: Enriched Unbleached Wheat Flour (Wheat Flour, Malted Barley Flour, Niacin, Reduced Iron, Thiamin Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Folic Acid), Palm Oil, Water, Sugar, Egg Yolks, Contains less than 2% of the following: Soybean Oil, Pumpkin Powder (Pumpkin, Maltodextrin, Corn Flour, Soy Lecithin), Dairy Blend [Whey Solids (a milk derivative), Soy Flour, Nonfat Dry Milk, Sodium Caseinate (a milk derivative)], Leavening (Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate, Baking Soda, Sodium Aluminum Phosphate), Spices, Natural and Artificial Flavor, Soy Flour, Salt, Soy Lecithin, Yellow 6 Lake, Konjac Flour, Caramel Color; Glaze: Sugar, Water, Maltodextrin, Contains 2% or less of: Mono and Diglycerides, Agar, Cellulose Gum, Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate (Preservative), Artificial Flavor.

    1. @Michelle: I actually wasnt concerned about either of them. Obviously, I know a donut is full of junk, but it’s not like I consume them (& coffee creamers) all of the time, ya know?

  15. Animals are so weird- my cat is deathly afraid of the vacuum. So afraid actually, that one time I picked him up and placed him on the vacuum lol he did some kind of crazy backflip and ran away scared.

  16. Mmmm…donuts!

Murphy’s such a character, lol! I think if a pug came along and barked at my trash cans I’d take a video. Too cute! (Our dog, when she was a puppy, used to bark at wheels: cars, bikes, rollerblades, etc. Oh, and umbrellas.)

  17. hahaha i love murphy and the trash can! that made me laugh out loud! i love new york city so much! and coconut water!
