I have a fun announcement! I just registered to run my second half marathon!!!
This morning, Mal and I registered for theΒ Chilly Half Marathon in November. A friend told me about it a few weeks ago, but it didn’t fit in with theΒ TNT training schedule. But now that Mal and I are running the P.F. Chang’s Marathon, it fits in perfectly. Our long run that week is 13 miles. Perfect!
My first half marathon was the Run to Remember in Boston back in May 2009. Training forΒ this raceΒ injured my hip. I hurt my hip about a month before race day, but ran away. And let me tell you, it was not a good idea. I made my hip so much worse.
I finished the Run to Remember in 2:06:04, which is a decent time, especially for someone with a bum hip, but I know I can break 2 hours. It’s my goal for the Chilly Half.
Workout
Speaking of running, I hit the pavement for a 4-mile run this morning. I finished in 35:23, which is my fastest 4 miles since I started training in mid-August:
After running 4 miles this morning, I was tired, but not dead-tired like I usually am. I actually felt pretty good.
I’ve never followed a training program as closely as the Team In Training plan,Β butΒ now I realize why it’s so important. It’s really making a difference!Β TNT has us running 3 days per week with 3 days of cross-training mixed in. For me, crossing-training is Body Pump, yoga, walking, and the elliptical. It’s a nice balance of activities and somehow it’s making me faster on my runs!
After my run, I parked my butt on the couch in front of the TV with my laptop and got to work. While digging through my bag for a pen, I stumbled upon half of a dog bone from Murphy’s vet visit the other day. (The vet had me give Murphy treats while they stuck him with needles.)
Murphy was psyched about the unexpected treat in my bag. He came running right over to me as soon as he saw me with it. Dogs are so funny! π
Lunch
I grabbed a few groceries before lunch today. I wasn’t in the mood to do a big shopping, so I only grabbed the “necessities,” which included brussels sprouts.
I coated the brussels sprouts with olive oil and Garlic Gold Nuggets and roasted them in the oven. Then, I added them to salad with a hard-boiled egg and crumbled feta.
Why are roasted brussels sprouts so tasty!?!
After lunch, I enjoyed some apple crisp. My mom gave me a bunch of “B grade” apples the other night, so I they were just asking to be turned into apple crisp. Plus, it takes just 10 minutes to throw together this recipe! π
VinoVoyage is tonight!!! I’m excited! π

Murphy is fixed on that treat!! haha I love teasing my pets with treats like that- they’re always so cute!
I’m running the chilly half too! Let’s hope for good weather…
i love running in newton!! i’m from the area so that would be really cool to do a half marathon in november. it might not even be TOO cold… π i think they have it right with “chilly.” heh. it will be great to run a half en route to a full as well. it’s often suggested in training plans!
and i LOVE your pug pics. i’m pug-sitting this weekend!! for TWO!!! one is gigantic and a lil pudgy (i don’t think murphy is pudgy btw), and the other is much thinner and darker. it’s interesting the differences within such a distinct breed. they are all very “pug” looking of course… heh.
Roasted brussels sprouts are pretty much my favorite veggie. No idea how that happened either. I used to hate them as a kid, but that’s true with many things π
Animals can always sense food in a blink of an eye.
Have fun at Vino Voyage! I SOOO wish I was going, but am just too overwhelmed at the moment!
Brussels sprouts a la fall is one reason I’m happy for the season change – I’ll eat them in any form!
Animal instinct – always amazing!
Dogs love their treats. Ours freak at the sound of the bag. π
Congrats on the half!!! And i would KILL for some of that apple crisp!
Murphy is too darn cute π Have fun tonight!
Congratulations! It’s lovely that you can do all these marathons the way you once dreamed of π
Congrats on signing up! π It seems like doing a half marathon is a great way to check in on how you’re doing halfway through your training.
Pretty salad! The eggs look very appealing cut at that angle – and I’m not usually a fan of eggs in salad!
egg & brussels, yummy lunch
Yum! I could eat brussel sprouts every single dya and be happy!
Congrats on signing up for the half-marathon! You can definitely get sub 2 hours this time, you’re speedy!
I just got my cookies from the bake sale! I was so excited to open up my package and find dessert π Thanks for letting us indulge in a little dessert for a wonderful cause!
Murphy is so cute!
Yay for squeezing a half Mary into your training. That is awesome!
I’m signed up for the Chilly half too!
YAY for half marathon #2! I’m running half marathon #7 this Sunday….I’m sooo excited!! π
Murphy is such a cutie! I adore roasted brussel sprouts. I am SO glad I gave them a shot despite their bad rep!
I know that this doesn’t have to do with this post, but wanted to say that I’m really enjoying the new focus on your blog. Though don’t comment often, I’ve been reading for awhile. In the last little bit, I found myself skimming or skipping posts, but not sure why….I think it’s because I like your “roots” better :-).
Congrats on the speedy training run! And for registering for another half π
The new run sounds like a lot of fun–I am lovin’ the chili theme!!
Oh my gosh- that salad looks a-mazing! And the best part is how simple it is! Barely 4 ingredients! Roasted brussel sprouts are divine…thanks for the inspiration for my grocery jaunt this weekend. π
You have me wanting apple crisp so badly!
Try a little sesame oil with the EVOO too.
On the brussel sprouts, that is!
Your lunch salad looks absolutely delicious and it’s so so pretty!
That dog is so cute, he’s/she’s just a darling…!
Love the Eggs they definitely look delicious
Care to share the recipe?
@Jessie: For the eggs? I just boiled them in water.
Hi Tina,
LOVE your blog. Do you do the wordpress html coding? Or do you hire someone for that? I’m just getting into the grove of blogging, and would love to teach myself how to host, and design my own site. Wondered if this was a CRAZY idea π
Cheers!
