Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

This post is sponsored by Hyatt Place as part of its Seamless Travel Series. The opinions are my own and based on my experience.

Now that the travel season is in full swing, I thought it would be a great time to talk about what to eat on the road to start your day. In my last post as the Hyatt Place Seamless Travel Series’ Healthy Living Guru, we talked about workouts you can do in your hotel gym, and I heard from quite a few of you that you were also interested in what to eat on the road, especially when it comes to breakfast (one of my favorite meals!).

I’ve stayed at all kinds of hotels over the years, which means I’ve eaten my fair share of hotel breakfasts and know that it can be challenging to choose nutritious options that will leave you feeling full and energized to start your day of exploring the local area.

I was thankful when I stayed at Hyatt Place New York/Midtown-South one weekend earlier this year and was able to enjoy their free hot breakfast, the a.m. Kitchen SkilletTM. The breakfast served on the weekend has so many great options! So to guide you to make smart choices at your next hotel breakfast, here are five healthy and satisfying breakfast options to try!

When I’m on the road, eggs are my go-to breakfast – scrambled, hardboiled or as part of an omelet or egg sandwich – you can’t go wrong with eggs. You can always rely on them to fill you up and keep you satisfied for hours.

Hyatt Place’s incredible a.m. Kitchen Skillet offers eggs made with cheese, meat and veggies for added satiety and nutrients. The property also serves delicious breakfast sandwiches, including the new Garden Vegetable Egg White Patty Sandwich, providing the protein you need to stay full in the morning without sacrificing taste. Definitely look for this favorite during your next overnight stay at a Hyatt Place hotel!

Oatmeal with lots of toppings

Another breakfast favorite for me when I travel is oatmeal, which is warm, comforting, and, oh, so filling. I swear, a big bowl of oatmeal will keep my stomach happy for hours.

For added nutrients and staying power, I like to add dried fruit, such as cranberries and raisins, as well as nuts, seeds, high fiber cereal (I like Kashi, Shredded Wheat, or Raisin Bran), and peanut butter to my oatmeal for even more nutrient variety and satiety.

Yogurt with fresh fruit and high-fiber cereal

Similar to how I eat oatmeal at hotels, I also load up yogurt with all kinds of nutritious toppings to keep me full and satisfied. I typically opt for plain yogurt and then add fresh fruit followed by a high-fiber cereal and usually some nuts, seeds and dried fruit to keep it interesting.

Toast with peanut butter and banana

Even with the skimpiest hotel breakfasts, I can almost always find a couple of slices of bread, a banana and some peanut butter. (Quick tip: If you don’t see peanut butter on display, ask a staff member for some. Hotels almost always have it!) I typically toast my bread and then eat it with peanut butter and banana slices on top. It’s a delicious way to start the day and incredibly filling!

Cottage cheese with fresh fruit and cereal

I don’t often see cottage cheese at hotel breakfasts, but when I do, like at Hyatt Place, I almost always hop on it since it’s loaded with protein, which is key to a satisfying breakfast. Typically, I mix cottage cheese with fresh fruit, cereal, nuts, and seeds, but it’s also great stirred into oatmeal, which adds an extra creamy texture and plenty of protein for even more staying power in my breakfast.
