Tips for Exercising in the Morning

For me, morning workouts help me stick with regular exercise. If I workout first thing in the morning, I don’t have to worry about trying to fit it in later in the day when plenty of “excuses” pop up for not exercising. Here’s what helps me wake up in the very early morning hours to break a sweat! And here’s even more tips for streamlining your morning, including what to pack for the gym: Streamlining Your Workouts.

Treadmill Workouts

The winters are long and cold in Boston, which often forces my workouts indoors. Instead of avoiding “dreadmill,” I now look forward to my treadmill workouts. I rarely get bored anymore! I’ve highlighted just some of my favorite treadmill workouts, but even more are listed here.

Ways to Sneak In Exercise: Mini-Workouts

Life is busy, and I understand that it is not always possible to squeeze in a full workout to your day. I am a firm believer, however, that even just small bursts of exercise here and there are “worth it” and important to keeping your body (and mind) in shape. Check out some of my favorite mini-workouts!

Playlists by Exercise Type

In my opinion, music can make or break a workout. If you have the right music, it can motivate you to exercise longer and harder. I have created various playlists, specific to the type of exercise in which you are partaking– from running to strength training to elliptical-ing to yoga. Of course, quite a few of these songs are interchangeable, but here’s a guide for some new playlist ideas.

Recording Your Workouts

I’m a big fan of planning and recording my workouts each week. It keeps me on track and motivated. It also helps me identify what works and what doesn’t work in my exercise routines. For instance, every other week or so, I will go back through my recorded workouts and assess what I have been doing. Instead of just going through the motions, I look for holes in my workouts and try to switch things up.
