• CNC Meal Plan: Week of September 23

    September 23, 2012

Good morning and happy, happy, happy Sunday!

I took an evening flight from Baltimore back to Boston last night (there’s still one more post about Fitbloggin to come), so by the time I ate dinner, unpacked, and hung out with Mal and Murphy, I didn’t get to bed until almost midnight. I planned to sleep in this morning, but I ended up waking up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at 6:30 AM. I tried to go back to sleep, but it just wasn’t happening, so I got out of bed and started meal planning for the week. (I know, I’m a weirdo, but I can’t be the only one who gets excited about meal planning, right?) I whipped out my favorite cookbooks and coupons,  made a shopping list, and, fifteen minutes later, I headed out the door to the grocery store. I figured if I got it done nice and early, it’d be quick and painless, so I didn’t even bother to change out of my sweatpants.

Grocery shopping at 7:15 AM on a Sunday morning was absolutely glorious. I had the store to myself. No lines, no wait, and I was in and out in 30 minutes.

    Here’s this week’s meal plan:

    And grocery shopping list:

    • Onions
    • Bell pepper
    • Bananas
    • Ground beef
    • Mushrooms
    • Olive oil
    • Spinach
    • Paprika
    • Capers
    • Sliced deli turkey
    • Chicken
    • Sweet potatoes
    • Carrots
    • Tomato
    • Egg whites
    • Coconut milk
    • Cauliflower
    • Spaghetti squash
    • Broccoli
    • Peas
    • Raisins
    • Celery
    • Grapes
    • Strawberries
    • Acorn squash
    • Ground turkey
    • Almond milk

    Question of the Day

Do you ever run errands in your sweats?

I pretty much live in workout gear, so I’m usually wearing yoga pants/crops or running shorts when I’m out and about.

On a random note, i love your toenail polish color!

    Tina September 23, 2012 at 11:09 am

    Thanks! 🙂

    csvt September 24, 2012 at 11:45 am

    @Tina: what colour is it?

    Tina September 24, 2012 at 11:49 am

    @csvt: Raspberry? I don’t remember. Sorry!

Rebecca @ Blueberry Smiles September 23, 2012 at 11:09 am

I always do weekend errands in sweats too. I love being extra productive on weekend mornings- it makes the day seem so much longer! You meal plan sounds great this week

Suzanne @ Fit Minded Mom September 23, 2012 at 11:19 am

You know, I like running errands in my workout gear but only if I haven’t worked out in it that day. I cannot stand the way a sweaty sports bra feels after a good workout. Sweaty socks are even worse!!! Maybe others don’t sweat as much as me but I usually need a fresh change of clothes or I just feel nasty!!

    Amy September 23, 2012 at 11:19 am

Girl, please. I wear work clothes to the office all week, so I live in yoga pants all weekend. I can’t remember the last time I DIDN’T go in yoga pants. I’ve turned into my own worst middle-aged woman nightmare. LOL.

Alysia @ Slim Sanity September 23, 2012 at 11:34 am

I live in workout clothes! I’m also debating a recipe for sweet potatoes this week, I’ll have to check out your recipe!

    Danielle @ A Sense of Balance September 23, 2012 at 11:35 am

I love meal planning too! I was up at 7 and that was the first thing I did after walking the dog.

I don’t normally wear sweats anywhere, but I did actually my workout clothes to the grocery store this morning.. and that was after an hour stair run work out. It was just too convenient to swing by on my way home this morning. I like going early when it’s still empty too.

    mary @ minutespermile September 23, 2012 at 11:48 am

great to meet you at fitbloggin! and curious how the pizza hot plate turns out — my boyfriend and i are thinking about making the “meat pizza” which is insanely meaty.

    Laura September 23, 2012 at 11:48 am

I work from home too and I hardly ever wear “normal” clothes anymore. It gets to the point where I go for a run/to the gym, and change into non-sweaty workout clothes for the rest of the day. So sweatpants to the store all the way! I actually find it quite ridiculous when I see women all dressed up or in high heels carrying grocery bags.

Can’t wait for the next Fit Blogging post!

    Khushboo September 23, 2012 at 11:59 am

I once ran to the grocery store in pyjamas- I threw on a hoodie and off I went in my polka dot bottoms ;)!

    Michele September 23, 2012 at 12:03 pm

I don’t own any sweats (living in Florida) but I always wear really comfy clothes on the weekends to run errands. I wear yoga or workout type pants and some sort of a longer top and sandals. Actually, I pretty much live in those clothes all the time when I am not at work!

I like your toenail polish too! 🙂

    Samantha September 23, 2012 at 12:21 pm

I’m jealous about the empty grocery store! Sunday mornings are THE WORST time to go grocery shopping here… You literally wait in line for 30-40 minutes. It’s so brutal that I make a point of boycotting the grocery store on Sundays. On another note, I’m excited to see Monday’s dinner.

    Sabrina September 23, 2012 at 12:22 pm

I am in Yoga pants and a tee shirt right now! Comfort matters. 🙂

Michelle (Peachy Palate) September 23, 2012 at 12:24 pm

Oh ye comfort all the way! It’s the most practical sure…trainers and sweats for all the running around! And I love meal planning! I have been known to do it at the crack of dawn too! 🙂

Erica @ For the Sake of Cake September 23, 2012 at 12:27 pm

Oh yes, I don’t even think twice about heading out the door in sweats/workout gear!

Sam @ Better With Sprinkles September 23, 2012 at 12:46 pm

I’m all about errands in sweats or yoga pants – so comfy!

I think I may have to try the sweet potato shepherds pie idea, that sounds so good!

    Courtney @ Journey of a Dreamer September 23, 2012 at 1:05 pm

I have been known to run errands in workout gear, it’s just so comfortable!

Chelsie @ Balance, Not Scale September 23, 2012 at 1:19 pm

Pretty sure I only ever run my errands in sweats / gym clothes … hm. haha. Probably because I live in them. #noshame
And going during early morning on the weekends is the only way to go … otherwise the line-ups and the crazies out there at peak hours get to be a little much. Yes, you miss out on potential free samples, and you might have to ask if they have your favourite items in stock, but it’s SO worth it for the stress-free shopping.
Looks like a great week of eats!! 🙂

luv what you do September 23, 2012 at 1:51 pm

I always run errands in my sweats. Is there any other way??? I was at the farmer’s market nad target in comfies this AM. It’s great to have the whole store to yourself. I typically shop on Mondays (my day off) because the store is much quieter and the produce is stocked. Happy Sunday!

Natalie @ Free Range Human September 23, 2012 at 2:47 pm

It’s a special occasion if I’m not in my sweats when I run errands!

    Megan@funsizedfitness September 23, 2012 at 2:58 pm

I almost always wear workout clothes to the grocery store…and I’ve often gone with my hair soaking wet because I didn’t feel like drying it!

    Shannon September 23, 2012 at 3:16 pm

    More so during the cool

    Laura @ LauraLikesDesign September 23, 2012 at 3:33 pm

Aw, pretty color on your toes!

I used to do the 6am grocery routine on Saturdays before I got married. It was great–no lines, no screaming kids, freshly stocked shelves. Now, I tend to go mid-afternoon but must say that the early morning is the best time to go!

I always run errands in workout gear too–makes it easy to get in and out of stores quickly and comfortably!

    Emily @ Greens, Eggs, & Hamstrings September 23, 2012 at 3:36 pm

I love meal planning for the week too! And I live in my yoga clothes.

    Katie September 23, 2012 at 3:51 pm

I don’t typically wear my workout gear/sweats to run errands on the weekend, however I am still all about comfort (but with some class and fashion sense). I’ve seen people at the grocery store who look like they just got out of a hot yoga class and it’s not a pretty sight. 😛 In my opinion, people need to look presentable in public (and that doesn’t mean wearing a prom dress and lathering on the make-up).

Sabrina @ Nutritiously Sweet September 23, 2012 at 4:33 pm

Grocery shopping early is the best! Sometimes I go on my split shift (lunch timeish) and it’s pretty empty too! I thought I was the only one who loved meal planning lol. Looks like a yummy food week 🙂

Genevieve @ Genevieve Finding Balance September 23, 2012 at 4:51 pm

Nothing is better than hitting the grocery store at 7am on a Sunday- love it!! It makes shopping such a breeze.

    Lauren September 23, 2012 at 5:48 pm

Love the meal plan! And why don’t I go grocery shopping at 7am? Brilliant!

    Aurielle @ Will2Wellness September 23, 2012 at 7:16 pm

I actually dislike meal planning (mostly because it’s hard to combine meals that both my husband and I like) and only do it when I’m in the mood! I managed to get it done this morning, and decided to shop before hitting the park for a workout…so I guess I occassionally shop in my workout gear too!

    Katie September 23, 2012 at 7:32 pm

The question is do I ever not run errands in sweats! On weekends, I typically run all my errands either right from the gym or yoga studio. If I’m at home and need to run to the store, I have no issues throwing on a hoodie to run out.

    Misty September 23, 2012 at 8:00 pm

Sweatpants,oh my gosh no! Never unless I lived in anartica and it was -130 degrees and I was hidden under covers. To me sweatpants are so not sexy.

Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin September 23, 2012 at 8:10 pm

I love hitting up the grocery store first thing in the morning! All the crowds later on in the day stress me out. 😛

Jennifer @ Peanut Butter and Peppers September 23, 2012 at 8:38 pm

Great grocery list!! Love how you plan your meals out!!

    Melissa September 23, 2012 at 9:34 pm

Yes I do. I’m in some sort of sweats/workout clothes most of the time. I teach math the first half of the day which means “nice” clothes, but then I teach dance at the end, so I’m always in a tank top and shorts when I leave. Any errands are done in those clothes – I have no shame haha!

    caren September 23, 2012 at 9:36 pm

LOL…I’m pretty much always in sweat pants! errands or otherwise. If I’m feeling fancy, I’ll throw on my lululemons 🙂

    Sharon September 23, 2012 at 9:51 pm

Great plan and thanks for the grocery list! I am interested in what your list cost you! Sorry if I am being too nosy, but I live in the Chicago ‘burbs and have been told our groceries are some of the highest in the country! Thanks for all your hard work.

    Life's a Bowl September 23, 2012 at 10:33 pm

I live in workout clothes/ sweats/ stretchy pants… Unless I’m going to, at, or coming from work 😛 I have no shame showing up sweaty post-workout to the grocery store, oops!

    Dana September 23, 2012 at 10:47 pm

I know you gave GI issues, as do I. I stopped drinking store-bought Almond Milk (and coconut milk) b/c of the ingredient Carrageenan. It’s been linked it GI inflammation, so I make my own almond milk. It’s super easy and saves money too!

Kerry @ Totes My Oats September 23, 2012 at 11:02 pm

I am always in sweats! Love them.

    Annette@FitnessPerks September 24, 2012 at 12:28 am

I totally wear fitness clothes ALL over the place! LOVE.

    Frank September 24, 2012 at 12:40 am

Great shopping list, looks a lot like mine!

STUFT Mama September 24, 2012 at 1:32 am

Ha. I run errands in nothing but sweats or sweaty gym clothes. 🙂 7:15 on a Sunday morning though after a weekend away? You go lady! 🙂

    Rebecca September 24, 2012 at 1:40 am

I used to, but since I had children I am paranoid about appearing frumpy. So I always wear a dress to leave the house for non workout related reasons. Yes, a dress. No exceptions. Hey, I live in Texas.

    Kristen September 24, 2012 at 2:01 am

Um, ya… I try to put makeup on so I look kinda cute lol.

Ksenija @ Health Ninja September 24, 2012 at 2:34 am

Meal planing is one of my favorite hobbys! I am always getting excited when I do have the time to incorporate some new recipes and tricky ways to use up my fresh produce.

    Marie September 24, 2012 at 6:39 am

Hey Tina, I’ve noticed you are using your paleo cookbpols more in your weekly planning. I’ve just started trying to eat paleo and want to get some books. Any chance of you giving us your thoughts on the ones you have and whether you recommend them? Thanks 🙂

    Tina September 24, 2012 at 7:11 am

Here’s my review of Well Fed: http://carrotsncake.com/2012/09/well-fed-review-giveaway.html And I’m LOVING Practical Paleo! 🙂

    Marie September 25, 2012 at 1:34 am

@Tina: thanks! Youre always so helpful I know what I’ll be buying next pay 🙂

    Lauren September 24, 2012 at 6:43 am

Hah…of course I run errands in sweats/comfies! Yesterday, after my bikram yoga class I rinsed off at the studio and put on clean yoga pants! I love meal planning too, but sometimes I’m lazy with it, I used the browse method yesterday since I had some free time and lots of my favorites are still in season somewhst locally, they won’t be for long!

    Jodie September 24, 2012 at 7:03 am

Absolutely…I don’t think they r as daggy as they used to be, I live in all my training clothes, super comfy!

Mandi @ Miles and Mascara September 24, 2012 at 12:33 pm

I really need to be better about meal planning. I live in sweats and comfy shorts at home, but I live in jeans/shorts when I’m not working out or at work. Rarely will you catch me in any store wearing sweats.

Mandi @ Miles and Mascara September 24, 2012 at 12:34 pm

@Mandi @ Miles and Mascara: I guess I need to rephrase that: …but I live in jeans/shorts outside of home when I’m not working out or at work.

    Adrianna September 25, 2012 at 9:24 pm

sweatpants are genius. one of my favorite things ever.
