    Happy Friday the 13th!

Have you ever heard of friggatriskaidekaphobia, the fear of Friday the 13th? Well, I think I have it! GAH!!

Ok, I’m not afraid of the number 13, but I irrationally don’t like it, even though I love all other odd numbers, especially the numbers 5 and 19. I know my dislike for 13 makes no sense, but it’s just an unlucky number for me.

Did you happen to see the fun food fact on my Dole calendar today?

At a time when professional athletes are getting booed for steroid use, spinach is in the news for its steroid-like ability to bulk up muscles. Lab tissue culture and animal studies showed that a plant steroid extracted from spinach increased muscle growth by 20%, and also enhanced rats’ front limb strength by 10%.

Neat, right? Apparently, Popeye was onto something!

I switched up a my dinner plans last night to celebrate National Grilled Cheese Day. I mean, how could I not?!

On the menu: a grilled cheese sandwich made with cheddar.

    IMG_3079 (750x563)

And grilled asparagus on the side.

This morning, I woke up really hungry for breakfast, so I whipped up a big batch of “Oatmeal” Minus the Oats. I used hemp milk instead of almond milk and added shredded coconut and peanut butter to the mix. Tasty and filling.

    Question of the Day

Are you superstitious or “particular” about certain numbers (or am I just a weirdo)?

P.S. Need a little pick-me-up this morning? Check out this heart-warming video about Caine’s Arcade. Elizabeth shared it on Twitter yesterday, and it put the biggest smile on my face. It’s an adorable story.

The only time I’m superstitious with numbers is with time…i.e. if it’s 11:11, 10:10, 12:12 etc, I make a wish!

    Lauren April 13, 2012 at 6:48 am

I try not to be superstitious but I definitely think bad things do happen in 3’s. I have always thought that and my theory has yet to be proven wrong.

Colleen @ What's Baking in the Barbershop?! April 13, 2012 at 6:50 am

I’m not superstitious of numbers, but I do have my favorite numbers! 13 is actually lucky for me, as my fiance and I met on the 13th (4 years ago today actually!). I love doing clock math (well, if the time is, for example, 5:41, I like that because 5 minus 4 is 1…I’m weird :)).

Michelle (Better with Berries) April 13, 2012 at 6:58 am

I’m a little superstitious about numbers. I don’t ever REALLY think something bad will happen on Friday the 13th, but it’s sometimes in the back of my mind. I do always make a wish if I happen to look at the clock at 11:11!

    Hillary April 13, 2012 at 7:13 am

I always go with the numbers 3 and 4, or any combo of the two (34, 43, 44, 33, etc). Not sure why, I just always have!

Erica @ For the Sake of Cake April 13, 2012 at 7:21 am

My parents got married on October 13, which just seemed like an “off” day to me. October I associate with Halloween, & 13, of course, is usually considered an unlucky number!

I’m not necessarily superstitious about numbers, but I do prefer even numbers or numbers with 5 in them! haha My husband & I just looked at a house & I automatically liked it because the address was 30 N. 25th Street… number perfection.

    Molly @ RDexposed April 13, 2012 at 7:24 am

    I want that calendar!
I forgot that it was Friday the 13th.
And I’m only superstitious with mentioning something when something is going on(i.e. perfect game-don’t announce that!).

    Kevie April 13, 2012 at 7:29 am

I set my alarm with times that end with an odd number, usualy a 3 or 7 (4:43, 6:07). BUT I set my temerpature only with EVEN numbers (68 degrees, 72, 74,…) I don’t know if that makes me suprstitious. I don’t think anything bad about 13, just know for some people it’s unlucky, I guess. 🙂

    Serena April 13, 2012 at 7:37 am

My daughter is on bus #13 it breaks down constantly. I gave the transportation department unsolicited advice “change the dang bus number”.

    Ananda R. April 13, 2012 at 7:46 am

Today is my 30th birthday and it’s on a Friday the 13th, which is super fun! I have always liked the number 13.

    Tina April 13, 2012 at 7:48 am

    Happy birthday! 🙂

Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat April 13, 2012 at 7:47 am

I’m not really superstitious, but I was once told that it’s bad luck to put new shoes on a table, so whenever I buy new shoes I always have to put the bag down on the floor, not on the kitchen counter!

    Ashlee April 13, 2012 at 7:50 am

I am not superstitious, and I like to pretend that I’m immune, my mom was born on Friday the 13th. I usually end up having good days when this specific day rolls around!

    Cait's Plate April 13, 2012 at 7:51 am

I don’t tend to be super superstitious but there are definitely things that get to me! I didn’t even realize it was Friday the 13th until I read a couple blogs…so I think I should be more scared about how out of it I am than anything else! Haha

Hope @ With A Side Of Hope April 13, 2012 at 8:02 am

I’m superstitious most of the time. Other times I try not to think about it.

    Lisa April 13, 2012 at 8:03 am

mmm looks like a delicious cheese on toast sandy!

The Mrs @ Success Along the Weigh April 13, 2012 at 8:19 am

    You’re a wei… Just kidding!

    I don’t mind 13 but I refuse to end a workout on 666 calories burned! :-O

    Michelle@PeachyPalate April 13, 2012 at 8:46 am

    Anne April 13, 2012 at 8:48 am

I was married on August 13th, so it is now my lucky number! We celebrate every 13th with a bite of cake together; it has been a fun treat!

    Kristen @ notsodomesticated April 13, 2012 at 8:52 am

Nope, I can’t say that I’m superstitous about numbers. But that dinner looks great. I’ve actually been craving grilled cheese for the past couple of days! 🙂

    Danielle April 13, 2012 at 9:00 am

Have you ever tried putting grilled/baked asparagus in your grilled cheese? I have seen so many recipes for that combination lately – looks really good! This is a vegan-variation on it… http://edgyveg.wordpress.com/2012/04/06/vegan-grilled-cheese-no-kids-allowed/

    Katie @ Peace Love & Oats April 13, 2012 at 9:12 am

I really don’t think there’s a number that particularly bothers me, but my favorite number is 12!

    CJ @ http://healthy-happy-whole.com April 13, 2012 at 9:17 am

i dont really have a phobia about numbers…phobias about other things but i didnt realize it was friday the 13th until i got to work this morning and had to write a check! oops!
i celebrated grilled cheeses yesterday too but a little differently. my husband and i went to dinner where we are very good friends with the chef. he made a special boursin cheese hummus featuring basil from his garden that was out of this world! with grilled pita wedges it was kind of like a grilled cheese?! regardless, it was DELICIOUS 🙂

    Angela April 13, 2012 at 9:19 am

yum! who doesn’t love a good grilled cheese!!!

Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries April 13, 2012 at 9:24 am

i’m not superstitious at all… i just think it’s kind of irrational. i always loved the number 5 for my volleyball and basketball uniforms, but i didn’t think it was “lucky” or anything – i just liked it.

Angela @ The Chicken Scoop April 13, 2012 at 9:25 am

I turned 13 on Friday the 13th! So I guess I can’t be superstitious about it:)

Mindy - clueless nut April 13, 2012 at 9:27 am

Roasted/grilled asparagus is my favorite! I like to add toasted almonds and fresh lemon to mine. Also, just looking at the OMTA makes me miss it. I had it for breakfast everyday last week, but decided to switch it up this week.

    Erin H April 13, 2012 at 9:27 am

All growing up, 13 has been a lucky number for me and my family. My 13th, 18th and 30th birthdays were all on Friday the 13th’s.

    Anne @strawberryjampackedlife April 13, 2012 at 9:31 am

E! News featured Caine and the filmmaker yesterday. I love how he check’s the fun pass using the square root button. What a great story!

    Tina April 13, 2012 at 9:35 am

    I loved that too! 🙂

    AJ April 13, 2012 at 9:45 am

I don’t really get what the big deal is about Caine’s arcade. yes, it’s cute. But he’s just a kid with an imagination. Do we really live in a world where that’s unsual? That’s sad.

Ashley @ Coffee Cake and Cardio April 13, 2012 at 9:50 am

I have a thing with the number 16. I don’t know why but I just love it!

    Tessa April 13, 2012 at 10:10 am

you are just a weirdo… 😉 I love your blog!!!

    Erika@YouJustDidWhat April 13, 2012 at 10:13 am

I’ve always liked the number 15. Don’t know why. The only thing I don’t like about 13 is being on the 13th floor in a building. But a lot of times they don’t have 13th floors.

Lindsay @ In Sweetness and In Health April 13, 2012 at 10:19 am

Wow, I can’t even pronounce that word haha. I think sometimes I’m superstitious, but it just depends on how I’m feeling! I had asparagus last night for dinner too…so tasty :D.

Alex @ Raw Recovery April 13, 2012 at 10:35 am

I guess I have the opposite problem- I was born on December 13 and I consider it my lucky number 🙂 Hope you have a great day!

    mary @ minutespermile April 13, 2012 at 10:48 am

One Type-A habit I have developed in terms of running: I like running complete miles. That is, I’ll run 7 miles instead of 6.85 even if it means taking an extra jog around the block! I just like the completeness of it all. The worst is when I hit 6.1, though…that means almost another mile tacked on! But I guess it makes you stronger in the end.

    Annette@FitnessPerks April 13, 2012 at 11:00 am

I LOVE even numbers and HATE odd numbers. Always have, always will!! I made my husband marry me on an even date (4/30/2010) haha!

Cat @ Breakfast to Bed April 13, 2012 at 11:00 am

My hubs and I got married on Friday the 13th. We kinda like to give the middle finger to superstition.

    Carrie April 13, 2012 at 11:09 am

Huh..I didn’t even realize it WAS Friday the 13th until I read this post!

    Jennifer April 13, 2012 at 11:21 am

I love Friday the 13th and the number 13 in general. I was born on Friday the 13th and it is usually a pretty lucky day for me. 🙂

    Morgan April 13, 2012 at 12:08 pm

I don’t have a phobia about numbers, but I do love odd numbers and hate even numbers. My favorite numbers are 7 and 17, and I have an irrational hatred of the number 16, my due date with my daughter was November 18, and I was terrified she would be born on the 16th. (she came early on the 9th, good girl!)

    Dudette April 13, 2012 at 12:43 pm

Wow, it’s Friday the 13?! Didn’t even notice that until your post. I generally like even numbers, though funny enough my favorite numbers are 5, and 25.

    Heather April 13, 2012 at 1:09 pm

Our wedding was on a 13th (June) so we always say it’s our lucky number.

    Tina April 13, 2012 at 1:12 pm

That’s my grandparents’ anniversary too! 🙂

    Trisha April 13, 2012 at 1:23 pm

I wouldn’t call mine a fear or superstition but I’m quite “particular” about numbers. I only like odds, but not 3 or 5. And I have a bit of a soft spot for 4 even though it’s even. Every alarm, timer, volume, temperature I set has to end in 1, 7 or 9. It’s a bit of a problem. Lucky for me, July 9th was a Saturday in the year 2011 so I could have the perfect wedding date…7.9.11!

Angela @ Happy Fit Mama April 13, 2012 at 1:24 pm

I can’t say I’m superstitous. I do make a wish if I look at the clock and see 11:11.

I had asaparagus last night for dinner, too. We wrapped skinny strips of crescent rolls around each one and added a dash of parmesean. Really, really good!

    Heather April 13, 2012 at 8:18 pm

I’m not super cautious or anxious on Friday the 13th, but I am a wee bit happier when it is over. I know in some cultures consider it lucky, but still. On a sidenote I thought your grilled cheese sandwich was an over-easy egg and cheese sandwich at first. It made me very hungry. Then I realized it was a regular grilled cheese and I was still very hungry. 😉

    Amy @Health Hungry April 13, 2012 at 9:44 pm

I realized it was Friday the 13th when I paid my bill at the salon today… I immediately attributed my bad morning to the day! I also don’t just say “knock on wood” I feel I MUST find wood to knock while I say it, so yep – right there with you. I have been adding spinach in my smoothies all week and am really stoked about the little fact – awesome!!!

    Amber K April 15, 2012 at 1:31 pm

I haven’t heard of it, but I have heard of paraskevidekatriaphobia 😉
