What Would You Ask Ellie Krieger?

January 24, 2012

Hi, friends! Hope your Tuesday is off to a wonderful start!

Breakfast

I woke up early this morning to get a head start on my To Do list for the day, so I threw together a quick breakfast: a toasted whole wheat English muffin with almond butter spread on top and some red grapes on the side.

I also drank 1.5 glasses of iced coffee with soy milk. It was one of those mornings. I needed the caffeine to get me going!

Weekly Workouts

I still haven’t heard back from CrossFit Endurance about a half marathon training plan, but I stumbled upon one (via Google search) that might work for my training. I still want to see see how it’ll fit in with my current workouts, so I’ll share it with you guys this afternoon.

  • Sunday: Open Gym – CrossFit
  • Monday: CrossFit
  • Tuesday: CrossFit
  • Wednesday: Off
  • Thursday: 12 x 400m
  • Friday: 5k + Body Pump
  • Saturday: Long run

What Would You Ask Ellie Krieger?

Remember when I had lunch with Ellie Krieger a couple of weeks ago? Our lunch wasn’t really an opportunity for an interview, but Ellie’s publicist got in touch with me last week to coordinate a more formal Q & A with her. How cool is that?!

A lot of you guys had questions for/about Ellie, so tell me what you want to know! Just leave a comment on this post with your question, and I’ll compile them for my interview with her.

P.S. Hey, local runners, want to run a fun road race for free? Well, here’s your chance to win an entry! ENTER HERE!

ohmmmyyy I loove Ellie! haha, not just b/c of the name :P I would like to know why/how she became interested in cooking “healthily”, especially when all the other chefs aren’t quite health conscious when it comes to cooking on TV.

Great sched but I’m surprised you are waiting 4 days after your long run before a rest day!

@Khushboo: My long run is on Saturday, so I’ll take a rest day next Sunday.

this is awesome. is that her home/apt where she films on the show? that big white kitchen in nyc?

Tiffany January 24, 2012 at 1:09 pm

I think it’s awesome that you got to meet Ellie, Tina. She seems like such a genuinely kind and gracious person, not to mention knowledgable. I think I’d like to ask her how she feels about consuming alcohol with dinner in the evening, as it’s a bit of a ritual in my house, and my own nutritionist has encouraged me to do so for a number of reasons. So, yes, what does she think about drinking? :)

Shannon January 24, 2012 at 1:13 pm

Why is she no longer on the food newtwork, I LOVED her show, is she planning on coming back?

Reply

Angela January 24, 2012 at 1:16 pm

I’d love to hear what her favourite thing to cook is, and who her ispirations or role models are in the culinary world.

Reply

Olivia January 24, 2012 at 1:19 pm

Would you please ask her what her favorite alternatives are to using nuts in a recipe? Especially peanut butter. Also, what are her favorite “no eggs” breakfast recipes? I have lots of allergies, and have been looking for the right person to ask those questions to. Thanks!

You totally ask the Paula Deen opinion! Ha

Ellie is really striking, isn’t she? Does she look like she wears a lot of makeup in person?

Reply

Tina January 24, 2012 at 1:44 pm

She is really striking in person, and she didn’t wear a ton of make-up at all. It was very natural-looking!

Coffee and PB have become bfast staples in my diet lately :D

If I could, I’d ask her about some of her daily eats- does she cook all of her meals or does she have some easy, go-to’s after a long day?

Parita @ myinnershakti January 24, 2012 at 1:41 pm

I’d love to know where she finds inspiration for her recipes. Thanks!

I like your plan, by the way!

Yes I agree – I would like to know what a typical day of eating is for her. Her idea of a good diet, stuff like that? What is her fitness regime?

Reply

Jamie in Arkansas January 24, 2012 at 2:05 pm

First of all, please thank her for making such an awesome cookbook! Her latest one is spectacular and all the recipes are easy to make & delicious! I would like to know about a day in her life – eating, fitness, work – how she fits it all in!

I love Ellie and I’m so thankful she is sharing her healthy eating expertise with the world. (Unlike SOME TV personalities…who would have you believe they eat lard, butter, bacon and crispy kremes in moderation). Sorry…had to go there!

Paj January 24, 2012 at 2:24 pm

What’s her go-to meal when she gets home after a long day and doesn’t want to cook or have a lot in the fridge/pantry?

Reply

Roz@weightingfor50 January 24, 2012 at 2:32 pm

This may sound a bit silly, but I’d like to know if she could only have 3 foods for the rest of her life, what would they be.

As a fellow Cornell Alum I have been absolutely inspired by Elie’s carrier and hope that I can put my Nutrition education, future RD, and passion for health, fitness and natural nutrition to use to serve others as well! Would love to know what advice she has for someone just starting out in their career!

That’s a great opportunity! As a healthy chef I would love to know what kinds of selections Ellie makes when eating out in order to ensure she is having a healthy meal while still experiencing the chef’s creations and the dining experience.

i LOVE ellie!

her being a registered dietitian [and me being a prospective one], i would love to know where she did her internship/what it focused on + what area of the nutrition world she went into/wanted to go into [before she became a food network star!]

I love Ellie!! I haven’t seen her on Food Network lately, is she still on? I’m like everyone else, I would like to know her typical day of eating is and also her fitness routine. :)

I loved Ellie’s TV show and I love her cookbook. I would ask her how she gets her daughter to eat healthy foods (besides the obvious…offering healthy foods) and if she has any tips on raising a kid who likes healthy food. Thanks!

If Ellie could cook for anyone in the world who would it be and why? Or what five people she would invite to a dinner party and why?

Reply

Debbie January 24, 2012 at 6:14 pm

Oh…I love Ellie and her cookbooks! My fave go-to is “The Foods We Crave.”

My question for Ellie would be, “what do you think of the Paleo lifestyle?” I would love to get an unbiased opinion from a nutritionist. I’m seriously considering trying it, but sometimes I have a hard time believing everything I hear.

P.S. When will she be back on the Food Network?

Hi, Tina. This is the 1st time that I have commented on your site. I love Murphy and was wondering if you have a Pugs Not Drugs tee shirt. I saw one and immediately thought of you. I also saw you and Theodora on Dr. Oz. You are so tiny! Anyhoo, I agree with most of the others on asking Ellie about her daily eating routine, how she became interested in healthy living and her thoughts on Paula Deen (who I love!). One more thing that I would ask her about is her skin care routine. Her skin looks flawless. Do you know how old she is? Thanks. Have a great day!
