Christmas Eve Tasting

December 24, 2009

Mal and I finally did something we’ve been meaning to do for months now: visit Nashoba Valley Winery. We have heard such good things, so we finally drive out to Bolton to see what it was all about.

Even in the snow, the vineyards were sort of pretty. I can only imagine what they look like in the summer and fall.

But, probably nothing like the vineyards in Sonoma! ;-)

Nashoba Valley Winery offers daily tastings for just $4 and you get a complimentary wine glass. Sounds like a good deal to me! :-D

The tastings were held in the vineyard’s wine shoppe, which also sold the winery’s products as well as a whole slew of wine-related goodies and gifts.

In addition to more than a dozen wines, Nashoba Valley Winery also produces a variety of beers and spirits. Who knew?

IMG_0740.JPG

Mal was psyched about the beer! Neither of us knew that they brewed beer, too.

The cost of the tasting included 5 tickets, which could used on tastes of wine, beer, or spirits. Mal used his on beer while I went with 5 tastes of wine.

We shared sips of all of them. I loved the Imperial Stout! Smooth and chocolaty!

IMG_0754.JPG

Mal also liked the Imperial Stout, but his favorite was the IPA:

An American style IPA, bursting with floral and citrus flavors from American grown hops. We blend Magnum, First Gold, and Glacier hops to yield a high level of bitterness and grapefruit flavors. This beer is extensively dry hopped following fermentation to intensify floral and citrus aromatics. A true hop head delight. Malts: Pale Ale, Caramel Wheat Kettle Hops: Magnum, Glacier Aroma Hops: Glacier Dry Hops: Glacier

Mal, of course, takes his beer tasting seriously. Sniff.

IMG_0755.JPG

I mostly stuck with the dry white wines, but I also tried a couple of reds.

IMG_0748.JPG IMG_0763.JPG

My favorites: the Dry Pear, Renaissance, and Riesling.

IMG_0756.JPG

Mal and I are actually Riesling-haters, but this one was delicious. It was crisp and fruity, but not too sweet.

IMG_0759.JPG

Wine tasting was a great way to spend Christmas Eve afternoon! :-D

IMG_0760.JPG

Of course, we didn’t leave empty-handed. We purchased a bottle of the Dry Pear and the Riesling. We’ll have to save them for a special occasion!

Lunch

After the tasting, we headed home for lunch. I made myself a big salad with chunks of leftover breaded chicken breast on top.

IMG_0772.JPG

The chicken added some serious substance to this meal.

Following lunch, I enjoyed 3 peanut butter cup cookies. Tis the season! ;-)

Mal, Murphy, and I are headed out for a walk.

Be back soon!

Fun! I have to admit that I have never been to a winery (I know! I know!) but it looks fantastic! The hubs and I have it on our to-do list in 2010. What a fun way to spend Christmas Eve afternoon!

What a great deal and a fun way to spend Christmas Eve! I’ve never been to a tasting in the winter because I love sitting outside with my bottle, but you make it look cozy. ;)

What a fun Christmas Eve activity! I prefer white wines to be dry as well, but that Riesling sounds perfect :)
