Beans, Batter, and Bacon

December 27, 2009

Mal has been talking about The Human Bean ever since we booked our plane tickets to Medford a few weeks ago. The Human Bean is a chain of drive-up coffee joints.

Mal and I took coffee orders from the family before stopping by The Human Bean this morning.

Every customer at The Human Bean receives a chocolate-covered espresso bean with their order. What a fun and delicious treat! :-D

IMG_1251.JPG

I ordered a soy milk cafe au lait. It was excellent!

IMG_1252.JPG

While breakfast cooked, I enjoyed one of Grandma’s homemade cookies. She’s quite the baker!

IMG_1257.JPG

She baked chocolate chip + butterscotch chip and walnut sugar cookies.

IMG_1256.JPG IMG_1259.JPG

And the most amazing sugar cookies! They’re perfect and taste absolutely fantastic.

IMG_1258.JPG

After much debate, I went with a chocolate + butterscotch chip cookie. I really wanted to eat one of each, but I didn’t want to ruin my breakfast.

Mal and my sister-in-law took the reins on making breakfast this morning. Mal was on bacon duty while Sib made the pancakes.

Did you notice Mal’s fancy apron?

The grease from the bacon kept splattering on his t-shirt, so Grandma offered him her apron to wear. Of course, I needed to snap a photo with my handsome husband. ;-)

Once the pancakes were cooked, Mal helped himself to the leftover pancake batter. For some reason, he LOVES it. The thought of pancake batter, however, grosses me out. Ick.

And then it was time to sit down to breakfast in Grandma’s dining room.

IMG_1275.JPG IMG_1276.JPG

Mmmmm! Pancakes + bacon are one of my favorite breakfasts ever.

IMG_1277.JPG

I started with 2 pancakes and a piece of bacon.

IMG_1284.JPG

And then I had a 3rd pancake. So good!

We’re off to see Jacksonville and visit a few vineyards!

Bye, guys!

Yum, what delicious breakfast food! I’ve never eaten pancake batter…maybe I’ll give it a try the next time I make brunch?

Yes ma’am, pancakes + bacon are a winning combo..I’ve been to restaurants that put bacon actually inside, in the batter!

Love Mal’s apron! Too funny! Pancakes and bacon are comforting. I think that’s why I like them for breakfast :)

A drive-up coffee shop that gives out chocolate espresso beans sounds like heaven! NYC has a lot of things, but we certainly don’t have that :-)

I LOVE the apron! The coffee place looks great! We’re visiting Minneapolis this weekend and stopping by Carribou Coffee as much as possible. Looks like a great breakfast – especially the cookies!

Eww eating pancake batter uncooked sounds kind of gross. To each his own I guess!

I think you need to save that pic of Mal in an apron somewhere special for blackmail

Wow, those pancakes look amazing. Maybe I need to invest in a cast iron skillet. Doesn’t look like my griddle makes them quite the same.

I had chocolate covered espresso once and I was wired for hours.

The thought of pancake batter raw is sooo gross. I love cookie dough and cake batter raw but pancake batter sounds ick.

Love drive-up coffee places! There aren’t enough out there, in my opinion.

haha Mal looks so cute! But I’m with you on the pancake batter…unless maybe they were chocolate chip pancakes? No, nevermind, still bleh.

Don’t let Mal fool you! Dutch Bros. is the way to go. Well, actually the Organic Grind in Talent is delish, but they aren’t on every corner, only one!

The apron is so funny! Before you explained what it was I saw it in the picture and could not figure out what he was wearing. Your husband is normally so well dressed it just didn’t seem to suit him ;o)

Glad you had a nice Christmas visit!
