Sometimes Picky

March 30, 2009

I’m not at all a picky eater, but when it comes to chicken salad, I am VERY particular about what I like. In general, any sort of “meat salad” grosses me out, so usually, it’s really tough for me to enjoy chicken salad. BUT, I will eat one certain kind (as long as it’s homemade): chicken salad with red grapes and celery. The combo of celery and grapes makes the chicken salad so delicious and fun to eat! For dinner tonight, I ate my chicken salad on a toasted Arnold’s Sandwich Thin.

Are you a picky eater?

With my open-face chicken salad sandwich, I had a homemade salad with lettuce, carrots, grape tomatoes, mushrooms, and celery, topped with balsamic vinegar.

I love the variety in this meal! Each bite kept me guessing! :-D

For dessert, Mal and I are going to share some Whoppers! I try not to buy junky food like this, but I won’t turn it down if Mal does! ;-)

Lunch

Today’s lunch was a homemade salad with leftover risotto, fruit salad, a Pure Bar, and an Adora disk. I ate my lunch away from desk today, which made a huge difference in my overall satiety. I took my time and enjoyed each and every bite from beginning to end. I really wish I could make this way of eating a true habit in my life. I guess I need to try a little harder!

Today’s afternoon snack was a packet of plain instant oatmeal with a squirt of agave nectar.

Recently, I have gotten in the habit of venturing out of the office in search of an afternoon snack. Usually, I end up buying a high-calorie (cookies, candy, etc.) or expensive (Starbucks beverage) snack, which adds up calorie-wise and financially. Today’s snack, however, was neither high in calories or expensive. For just $0.16 and 100 calories per packet, I ate a quick, yummy, and filling snack.

I skipped Basic Training tonight to relax and get my life in order. I really needed a night off from everything, ya know? I am planning to further unwind with a 45-minute Luna Flow session that I downloaded from YogaDownload. (I finally took advantage of the CNC coupon code!) I’m really looking forward to some quality relaxation time this evening.

Enjoy the night, bloggies!

that chicken salad looks so amazing!

I’m not picky at all, but when I go out to eat, I do inspect my chicken in great detail…Sometimes it just freaks me out!

I don’t really think of myself as picky, but I do hate deli meat! Always have, always will.
You’ll love the Lunar Flow. It’s super relaxing.

I am a picky eater. I think everyone has the right to be picky! You eat what you like and what works for you. Love all of the veggies in your day! Glad you took a night off for you too! Enjoy the whoppers! I can’t wait to try the Pure bars:)

Great snack! Aren’t oats wonderful? You can actually buy a big container at costco for around $5 and it has something like 100 servings! I love it so much I did a painted a portrait of it. (I’m actually giving the painting away in a giveaway on my blog. You might want to check it out!)

How do you like the pure bars? I’m thinking of trying a few…

With Love,

Emily

oh man I used to work at this gourmet grocery store and they had the best tuna salad. It was made with dried cranberries and it was fantastic.

I don’t feel like I’m picky but I guess I am since I don’t (and most food bloggers don’t) eat like the majority of the american population. So I guess I’m perceived as picky even though I don’t feel like I am because I love trying new things!

I guess I’m sort of a picky eater…I like all sorts of healthy, vegetarian food, but as far as “regular” food I guess I can be picky. Like if you took me to a BBQ there wouldn’t be much I’d want to eat…I don’t like cold salads like potato salad and stuff because I don’t like mayo, and I don’t eat meat, but if you took me to some cool Asian or Thai or Moroccan place I’d love it and find plenty to eat!

Enjoy your relaxing!

i’m picky about my chicken salad having too much mayo! your chicken salad looks yummy, but my fav chicken salad has pecans and cranberries in it :)

i like whoppers, too…wish they made them with dark chocolate though…

That is the exact same chicken salad recipe I grew up with!!! The grapes make it SO good!! Although my mom always used Miracle Whip…yuck! I’d request very little be added to mine…I never like any type of mayo!

That’s basically how we make chicken salad, but you should try adding pecans!

I totally agree with on the chicken salad – in fact, that exact recipe is the ONLY way I will eat it, too!

I hear ya on the need for a night off, Tina! I hope you enjoyed yourself and those WHOPPERS – yum!

I can’t say I’ve ever really been a fan of chicken salad. Seems odd to me, why not just have the chicken plain with regular sandwich toppings?

I am not picky. I wish I were sometimes that way I wouldn’t eat everything in sight! The chicken salad sandwich looks good to me!!! :D

I’ve never thought adding grapes into the chicken salad, but now that I think, why not? It adds some sweet flavor in it, just perfect! :D

I love fruit in chicken salad – grapes, apples, dried cranberries, you name it!

We have leftover risotto also, and I was thinking of making risotto cakes atop a salad for tonight’s dinner. Risotto is a fantastic leftover :)

As some others have mentioned, you should try Curried Chicken Salad! Here is a link to an awesome Ellie Krieger recipe for it (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ellie-krieger/curried-chicken-salad-recipe/index.html). I made it recently and added celery. I like that it uses Greek yogurt!

Funny enough, I JUST made chicken salad sammiches on Sunday night and actually posted photos. I too LOVE grapes in my chicken salad and had commented to my mister that it would have been perfect if I’d had celery to include. Instead I added a couple of raisins and some chopped walnuts. Yum!

I relate to not buying junky snacks, but not turning it down if the hubbs buys it and offers me a bite. :)

i’m super picky about chicken / tuna salad, too.

I love whoppers! my husband does not like them, so that’s good for me whenever I buy them ;)
