Better Tomorrow

January 16, 2009

I’m not sure what was up with today’s somewhat unhealthy eating. Not that I made completely horrible food choices, but, in the last 24 hours, I’ve drank 3 beers, eaten 6 slices of pizza, a donut, and cereal for dinner… and I didn’t eat a single vegetable today! Well, technically, there were leeks and squash on my pizza, but very little. Let’s just say there was definitely room for improvement with today’s eats! Oh well, one so-so day won’t kill me! ;-) Better tomorrow!

Dinner

Mr. Mal is at a hockey game tonight with his BBF (Best Boyfriend Forever), so it was just me for dinner. I considered making a protein-packed egg white and asparagus omelette, but a carb-erific bowl of cereal with banana slices won out. Carbs and I are best friends, especially in the winter– I crave them like crazy!

After finishing a humongous bowl of cereal, I made myself a second bowl. What is it about cereal?! I can never stop at just one bowl. It’s just too delicious!

Lunch

Mmmmmm… lunch was leftover Leek and Squash pizza from the Pig. I ate 2 breakfasts this morning, so I only had 2 pieces of the pizza for lunch… I wasn’t really that hungry either.

I love the leek-squash-sage-goat cheese combo! Amazing!

Snack

Blain and I celebrated my last day of work with one of our afternoon “coffee dates” at Dunkin’ Donuts. I met Blain within days of starting my position at HSPH, and since then, we’ve taken afternoon trips to D&D for coffee and chatting a few times a week. It’s sad that we can’t easily have these afternoon get-togethers anymore.

Our usual table…

At D&D this afternoon, I ordered a small decaf coffee with milk and sugar. My stomach started feeling queasy while drinking it, so I only drank about 2/3 of the cup before tossing the rest.

For old time’s sake, Blain and I split a chocolate stick, which was an excellent compliment to the coffee!

There’s not much on tonight’s agenda for me, except for catching up with my DVR episodes!

Happy weekend, bloggies! What do you have planned?

Don’t worry about the eats.Your mind has been on other things obviously. Plus all I want to eat in the winter is bread! This weekend is all about staying warm. Oh, and I have to hope I remember how to be a student and study!

I feel the same way about cereal! I could have a never-ending bowl. Glad you had a nice day with friends/co-workers!

Just planning on hanging out this weekend; hopefully kicking this cold I’m on the verge of getting!

Hooray for carby carbs! I’ve not been making the healthiest choices recently either, but I’m hoping to get back in the swing of things :) Have a good weekend!

I am the same way with cereal! I can’t get enough. I usually have to have 2 cups to be satisied.

I’m craving carbs a lot too, I guess I just want to keep warm!

Like you said, one day won’t kill you – and that cereal looks yummy. Off topic – but I’m a complete Dunkin Donuts fan (sorry S’bucks).

I had mixed feelings at D&D today. So happy it was your last day in the job you’ve been trying to get out for years to do something bigger and better. But, so sad to lose my afternoon break companion. You are irreplaceable and will be dearly missed. Farewell, goodbye, and good luck!!!!

PS
Pencil me in for a lunch and I’ll make the trip over…when you’re settled.

PSS
Don’t tell anyone I’ll be using “meeting” as an excuse to go over there lol.

I haven’t commented on your blog before but this one REALLY hit home. Today I have no idea what went wrong, but I had literally 2 bowls of cereal, 2 bowls of oatmeal then went back for more with a pb & j sandwich.
Your post made me feel MUCH more normal. I guess we just need those carbs sometimes.

Cereal for dinner is the best and so are coffee dates!

Still loving that pizza combo. I so need to try a version of it myself. And nothing wrong with that cereal for dinner. Cereal is good any time of day!

I think the world gave me a sign that I should chill it with the carbs, since I kind of started a small fire in my toaster oven! I was trying to heat up leftover pizza and …got distracted. Whoops!

My plans this weekend consist of theraflu (I’m still sick, ugh), Tivo, reading business cases, and playing with the cats I’m fostering for the MSPCA.

No really what is it about cereal…its like crack!!! Awww I hope you had a great last day, its so bittersweet, but you seem to really be ready for the new job. Such fun gifts from your co-workers! At least your leaving on a happy note, and have good contacts in case you ever need them in the future.

I actually don’t have too busy of a weekend, tomorrow will be some hot yoga and maybe a bridal show in the afternoon…theres one at the Westin Copely…tell your sister!

SO FUNNY. The last two days, I’ve been HORRIBLE. Yesterday, I ate four pieces of pizza and only one serving of vegetables. Today, I ate Indian food and only one serving of vegetables. AND A BROWNIE FOR DESSERT. But I was thinking to myself, maybe it’s the weather? All this cold in Boston is really making us get back to putting fat on our bodies? Could that be it?

Mmm, carbs and I love each other very much, too.

I’m working at 5:30 tomorrow and Sunday night, so I’ll probably just try to squeeze in some gym/friend/family time in between that and waking up. Have a nice weekend!

I get the winter carb cravings too- something comforting about it. I’m super excited about the 3-day weekend and looking forward to getting in some good workouts, a bike ride, and some time with the boy. Have a great weekend!

I think it’s good to shake things up a bit sometimes as our bodies get used to the same old thing. You gotta throw it for a loop every so often.

Love cereal for dinner! That pizza sounds so good…goat cheese AND sage. Yum. Love DD coffee – my favorite, but we have very few Dunkin Donuts in Nashville. I have to drive 20 mintues to the nearest location. I hear they are EVERYWHERE in Boston. So jealous! Happy weekend. My Mom and I are celebrating her b-day with lunch and a movie. We’re losing the hubbies for a girly day. :)

Hi Tina! First, good luck with your new job. You seem like a fabulous person. I just love reading your blog everyday. I am going to a football party tomorrow and was wondering if you have any good recipes. Also, have you ever tried making cupcakes or a cake using just the mix and diet soda? I’m wondering how it tastes. Thanks!

Boy can I relate to you with the cereal!! There were days in college where I would only eat cereal! It’s just so good and who can stop at one bowl???

That donut looks delish!

@living2thetruth4god: I’m going to a football party tomorrow, too! Are you cheering for the Eagles?

Have you checked out my recipe page yet? There are lots of yummy appetizers and baked goods listed there that would be good for a football party. The Buffalo Chicken Dip and Oatmeal Squares are usually a hit with crowds! :)

I haven’t made the cake with the diet soda. I’ve heard of it, and it does sound interesting, but I try to stay clear of soda as much as possible. Although, if someone presented me with a piece, I’m sure I would love it! ;)

You bought a small coffee at Dunks (Dunkin Donuts) so at least you avoided the evil and demonic Styorfoam cups that they use: http://www.chasingsanity.com/cheap-coffee-thrills-expense-mother-nature/
