About
Welcome to Carrots ‘N’ Cake!
I love food, and I love eating! While I try to fill my diet with mostly healthy foods, I have a number of favorites that are not necessarily nutritious, but are still delicious and fun to eat. If eaten in moderation, I believe that the “bad” foods can be part of an overall healthy diet. This food philosophy is the inspiration for Carrots ‘N’ Cake.
I allow myself to indulge almost everyday, so my goal is always to find a healthy balance. By posting what I eat everyday, I hope others will gain some insight into how to incorporate good nutrition and the occasional splurge into their diets.
If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to email me at tina@carrotsncake.com. I hope you enjoy my blog!

Background
In June 2002, I graduated from Union College with a BA in Psychology and Anthropology, and a minor in Women’s Studies. After briefly working for a marketing and promotions agency, I decided to pursue a Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration at Boston College. Around this time, my outlook on life started to change and my interest in nutrition and fitness really started to grow.
Upon completion of my Master’s degree in December 2005, I accepted a position at the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) in order to move my career in a new direction. My time at HSPH furthered my interest in health and wellness, and I took advantage of many opportunities to participate in seminars and lectures at the School.
In the fall of 2008, I considered a complete career change to become a personal trainer. From September to December, I worked as a Fitness Specialist for Healthworks Fitness, an all-women’s gym with locations in and around Boston. After some serious soul-searching, I decided that I career change was much too drastic for me, and a life devoted to health and wellness did not necessarily mean that it also had to be my full-time job. In January 2009, I resigned from my position at HSPH to accept a new role as the Executive Assistant to the Dean of Harvard College.
I thought working in the middle of the action at Harvard College would fulfill me, but after just a few months in my new role, I knew that I needed to pursue my passion for healthy living. So, during the spring and summer of 2009, I began formulating a plan that would allow me to leave my full-time job to devote more time to my blog, freelance writing, and related projects.
In October 2009, I resigned from my full-time job at Harvard and accepted a part-time position as a social media strategist for a nutritional rating company called NuVal. My job combines my love for nutrition and wellness with social media and blogging– what more could I ask for! Working part-time has allowed me to find balance in my life.
I am certified as a Nutrition and Wellness Consultant though the American Fitness Professionals and Associates (AFPA). I also write for Health magazine as part of their Feel Great Weight program and the Examiner as the Boston Healthy Living Blogger.
