As I walked through the door of my apartment this evening, I uttered these three words: “You’re my hero.” My wonderful and amazing husband had dinner waiting on the table for me! Wahoo!
I went to my food writing class tonight, so by the time I got home, it was well past 8 o’clock… and I was starving. In fact, for my entire commute home, I thought about what to cook for dinner. I even tweeted about it and received some wonderful suggestions! 😉
Dinner
You should have seen my face when I realized that all I had to do was eat! Even the dishes were done!
I still can’t believe what my husband whipped up for dinner: Pepperoni Pizza Puffs! Holy deliciousness! Let me tell you, I was a happy gal!
I loved everything about these Pizza Puffs– texture (light and fluffy), flavor (pepperoni pizza), and versatility (options are endless). The recipe can be easily adapted to include any ingredients that you would like. I think ham and cheese would be especially delicious. Or maybe bacon and cheese? 😉
Mal said these babies were quick and easy to make, and he used a regular muffin tin to turn this appetizer recipe into a dinner entree.
I considered adding a side salad to dinner, but these Pepperoni Pizza Puffs were exactly what I wanted for dinner tonight. Nothing else was needed.
After dinner, I satisfied my sweet tooth with a couple of pieces of vanilla-flavored Taza Chocolate.
I won’t bore you with a review because Taza chocolate is amazing and you should already be eating it! 😉
Snack
Before class tonight, I snacked on an apple and a Cheribundi tart cherry juice that the company sent me to sample a few months ago. The Cheribundi was pretty good. It had a seriously strong cherry flavor– almost too strong. I actually watered it down to drink it.
I also snacked on a Glutino Gluten-Free Breakfast Bar that the company sent me to review. This bar was just so-so. I ate it because I was hungry, but it was bland and sort of tasted stale.
Writing About Food: Reviews
You guys seem to be interested in what I am learning in my food writing class, so I thought I’d share a few highlights from tonight’s class as well. We discussed food reviews, so here are a few tips to keep in mind when you are writing:
- Be as specific as possible. Comment on anything that affects your dining experience, play upon the senses, make people feel like they are sitting at the table with you. Think about what you would want to know about the restaurant/food.
- Try not to embellish or over-exaggerate too much. You undermine yourself; you want to be credible. For instance, don’t say: “This is the best bakery in the whole world!”
- Let your personality shine through, but keep your audience in mind. Write from your own angle (vegan, sustainable, triathlete, etc.), but think about who is your target audience and what they want to know.
Watching a little TV and heading straight to bed! Good night!
