Mal and I had a nice little Friday night. It started with a CrossFit workout and ended with us lounging on the couch watching a movie, drinking wine, and eating chocolate. It definitely wasn’t a bad way to spend a Friday night!
Workout
Yesterday’s WOD wasn’t super challenging, so it was a nice break from the past several workouts.
Strength:
Handstand Push-ups
3-3-3-3-3-3-3
WOD:
In 12 minutes
Row 2000 meters
In the remaining time AMRAP
Knees to elbows
Score = # of K2E
We started with Handstand Push-ups, which I do with the help of resistance bands. I did 7 sets of 3, no problem, and then attempted a couple of unassisted handstands. I couldn’t press myself upāāmostly because my arms were tiredāābut I was so close! I could feel it! Next time for sure!
For the WOD, we had 12 minutes to do a 2,000 meter row followed by as many Knees to Elbows as you could do for the remaining time. I’ve just started to get the hang of kipping, so I did 5 actual Knees to Elbows + 10 pretty close Knees to Elbows. Hey, I’ll take it. A few weeks ago, I couldn’t even do one!
Snack
Mal and I were starving when we got home from CrossFit, so we immediately broke out some hummus + veggies to snack on. I had cut up a ton of veggies the other day for just this reason, and we ended up plowing through all of them! At least it was a healthy snack!
Dinner
Once dinner was ready, we parked ourselves in front of the TV to watch Super 8. (Super 8 reminded me a lot of The Goonies, so I really liked it. The kid actors were really great, too!)
On the menu for dinner: Veggie Patch Chick’n Nuggets, kale chips, and white wine. I had a coupon for the Chick’n Nuggets, so I bought them on a whim. They were actually pretty good. I’m not sure I’d buy them again because they have a super long crazy list of ingredients, but for a lazy Friday night dinner, they worked out great.
After dinner, I enjoyed a mint Lindt truffle.
And a couple of handfuls of Peanut M & M’s.
And, of course, more wine. Happy Friday to me!
How was your Friday night? Did you enjoy wine, chocolate, and/or a movie?

Holy crossfit! I can’t do any knee to elbows. Actually, crossfit scares me, but it seems like everyone is doing it these days.
Friday night my boyfriend made me dinner! There was chocolate & wine too!
looks like an intense Crossfit workout! workout + wine + chocolate + movie = sounds like a great way to start the weekend!
p.s. i tried out your oatless “oat bran” this morning! i liked it! i still love my tried and true oatmeal, but it’ll definitely be an addition to my breakfast “rotation” throughout the week. š
@Ashley @ My Food ‘N’ Fitness Diaries: Nice! š
Great workout! Those nuggets remind me of the days I used to gorge at Maccy D’s…extra BBQ sauce please!
Ahh, a perfect Friday night š
I bet you could do toes to bars if you went for it. I didn’t think I could until last night I just gave it a shot and was surprised at how easy a few felt. Knees to elbows are really tough especially after a set or 2!
Super 8 reminded me alot of Goonies too (my fave movie!)
I had a great Friday night! A little shopping, watching the Cotton Bowl, blogging, and hanging out with my boo. Today has been even better!!
After reading this, you just gave me a craving for Lindt chocolate – I LOVE LINDT. And love Peanut M&Ms too. Looks like a great Friday night. š
I LOVE Lindt chocolate. Their milk chocolate and white chocolate balls are my absolutely favorite thing! But I’ve never had their mint ones … I might have to check those out!
What a great Friday night. When my husband was deployed the one thing I really really missed was lounging on the couch with him. It was the only thing I wanted to do with him when he came home.
woah! Sounds intense to me! Haha! Looks like a great night though š
Looks like a great Friday night š I hit the track after work and did 2 miles (no walking) AND the tummy muscle feels great! My pace was also 8.59……I was shocked! May not seem fast, but it is for me!
It’s rainy here in Arkansas, so I am just gonna take it easy today. Have a good one!
That is fast!! Nice job! š
I definitely enjoyed a dark chocolate Godiva truffle last night! Yum! Those kale chips sound good right about now. Enjoy your weekend!
OMG we watched Super 8 and I was NOT a fan! I think I worked myself up too much to think it would be good but I thought it tried way too hard to be like the Goonies or Stand by Me, mixed with a bad combo of Cloverfield š
Again, I have GOT to try crossfit this year. I know a box that’s not too far from home, but I am hoping for a groupon or something to give me that extra push!
The first class is free! š
So weird, my husband, son and I watched Super 8 last night. We really liked it. Oh and we had wine (minus the son).
My Friday night was nice and easy? Consisting of chicken pot pie leftovers for me, lasagna for him. Also included cuddling on the couch with our puppy and watching the movie Country Strobg. We were in bed by ten! Not a wild night that’s for sure, but the perfect way to end a busy week!
Sounds like a wonderful night to me! š
I really liked Super 8…it also reminded my husband and I of The Goonies!!
Oh gosh, handstand push ups!? Haha I’ve never even tried a handstand!
Sounds like a great Friday night! Thanks for the reminder to cut up some veggies for a healthy snack in a pinch. Sometimes when I come home starving I need something to snack on ASAP!!
I really liked Super 8 as well. Lat night, I actually started re-watching The Wonder Years on Netflix. Brought back so many memories! I love that show even more as an adult (probably because I understand the jokes).
…and now you have me craving m&ms. š
I made some Godiva brownies and fell asleep about fifteen minutes into Midnight in Paris. I made my boyfriend rent it because I thought it was one of the best movies I’ve seen recently, and I NEEDED him to see it—I guess I felt like once was enough for me, though!
Finally finished the final LOTR (Return of The King -extended version) with the husband! We’ve never watched them together –so this holiday we decided to sit down and watch over 12 hours worth–it took us like 2 weeks, haha.
I had some frozen yogurt too-YUMM.
love me some Lindt!
I hope this doesn’t sound rude, but I’m curious how you compare something like chik’n nuggets to peanut m & m’s. I’ve seen you do something like this before (I think a veggie patty followed by frozen cookie dough?) You mention that the dinner product has too many ingredients, but don’t seem to take issue with the equally extensive/ “bad for you” ingredients in the dessert. Why is this?
Well, they’re two different things to me. Those veggie nuggets were part of my dinner, and I could have definitely chose something more ‘real’ to eat. Desserts and treats are suppose to taste delicious and be eaten less frequently and in smaller amounts, so I don’t really care if there are some crazy ingredients in them. I want to enjoy them!
@Tina: I like your reply to this comment and completely agree!
What brand of hummus is good to try?
My Friday night was equally relaxing: fell asleep on the couch around 10:00. I started a boot camp this week – which is really, really similar to Crossfit – and I’ve been absolutely pooped. A chill night was so perfect.
Your Friday night sounds perfect. My Friday night was far from relaxing but hey, some times they’re like that. I want a handful of those M & Ms š
I ate chicken nuggets for dinner last night too! And followed it up with some frozen yogurt, although chocolate is always a good option!
Any Friday that includes a couch, a movie, and good company sounds like a good plan to me! š
Hmm I love those chik’n nuggets. They go super well with ketchup even in pasta dishes. You just bake/toast it and add it to your pasta at the end.
Sounds like a great friday night to me! I went to see sherlock holmes but passed out at the theatre. I was exhausted! Kind of bummed because the first half was really good!
We “watched” True Grit- aka we started it at 9PM and I was asleep within the first 15 minutes… My fiance enjoyed it though!
My favorite nights always involve wine and chocolate after an exhausting workout- a little indulgence always tastes the best when you feel like you’ve EARNED it! š
There was lots of lazy lounging over here. No wine or chocolate, but I ate good food and a cuddly dog š
@Lena @Fit on the Rocks: I just realized that sounded like I ate my cuddly dog…good lord. He was there as company and is still frolicking and alive lol
Love nights like these! Lindt chocolate and peanut m&m’s are my absolute favourite š We watched Water for Elephants last night.. oh and ate leftover birthday cake.. yum!
I loved Super 8! I think it was one of my favorite movies of 2011.
This morning I made your oatless “oat bran” for breakfast. To me it was only ok because it seemed a bit slimy which was a turn off to me. Did you have this problem and know why this may be?
@Hannah: Well, it’s egg whites, so it’s going to be a little bit slimy (at least more so than regular oat bran). How long did you cook it for?
@Tina: True. I had it cooking for probably 3-4 min… So maybe I should try it a min or 2 longer? I wasn’t expecting it to be like oat bran and so it’s probably just an acquired taste. I used to not like overnight oats and now it’s one of my favorites š
I love spending Friday nights at home watching a movie with friends/family. Last night I stayed in and watched The Help with my parents – it was fantastic!
I’ve followed your blog for a couple years now, so I hate to leave a negative comment. But is there anyway you could blog a little less about Crossfit? I understand that you’re super-excited about it, but the photos of the dry-erase boards & your descriptions of the moves are all gibberish to me. I’m starting to just skip that part when you bring it up again.
Also, since you’ve been so excited about Crossfit, I looked into a class close to home and discovered it costs more $100 per month, plus it’s a 30 minute drive to get there. I don’t think it’s a realistic fitness option for a lot of your readers.
Sorry to bring this up. Just thought maybe I wasn’t the only one who felt this way. I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of commenters who will disagree with me, though.
I’m sorry you feel that way. I hope you keep reading! š
@Teresa:
Unfortunately I’m getting a little bored with the Crossfit talk, too… The nearest gym to me is an hour away, plus the price seems way too high. Besides, I enjoyed some of the other things you used to blog about that seem to be non-existent now!
Random question – Has anyone tried the Cinnamon M & M’s? I just saw them at Target today for 90% off. They don’t sound good and I’m assuming since there was a ton left, others think the same thing. Anyone?
Teresa- couldn’t agree with you more. This is one of my favorite blogs mainly because I thought it was so relatable, but recently I too find myself skipping over the cross fit sections as I don’t know what it means.
That’s so funny because my husband and I watched Super 8 (a stocking stuffer gift for my husband!) on Friday night too….we would have had wine but we tried a new beer & I made Truffle Mac & Cheese. Dessert was chocolate! Glad to know there are other young couples like us out there at home on a Friday night!
I also miss the way your blog was pre CF. I have been a reader for years and miss the original workout plans that you used to post. I also don’t understand the terms or the numbers you post related to CF.
@Amanda:
Seems like there are several of us on here who are tired of all the crossfit talk… I sure miss the old CnC š
