Who Is Batman?

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

So, who is Batman? Let me tell you.

As you can probably tell, my sister’s dog, Batman, is a mixed-breed pup. My sister and her husband were curious as to what type of dog they owned, so they had Batman genetically tested to find out. Turns out that he is quite the mutt. Batman is mostly Basenji, Golden Retriever, and Cocker Spaniel with Beagle and Italian Greyhound mixed in. What a weird-o! 😉

In honor of his cousin, Murphy asked me to share this video with you. I guarantee you can’t watch it without laughing! 😆

A pair of super ripe bananas dictated breakfast this morning. They were on their last day, so they were immediately incorporated into banana oatmeal.

In the mix:

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup vanilla soy milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tbsp ground flaxseed meal
  • Raisins
  • 2 scoops of Barney Butter

Question of the Day

Do you own a mutt or mix breed dog? What’s in the mix?

P.S. See what $50 bought me at the grocery store this week over on Trading Up Downtown. I’m getting good with the meal planning! 😉

  1. That video is hysterical! I have a beagle X Treeing Walker Coonhound with ice blue eyes. She looks like a tall, skinny dinosaur/alien.

  2. I wish I had speakers on my computer at work! I would love to hear that video of Murphy. What a riot!

When I was younger my family had a mutt — his name was Lucky. All I know is that he had a bit of golden lab in him, but other than that, I’m not sure!

  3. Muts sometimes make the best dogs. I know a lot of pure breeds that are super mean but all muts I know are the sweetest. We own a mut..not sure what his exact lineage is but he looks to be a husky/german shephard mix. 😛

  4. I’ve seen some crazy results from people who got the dog DNA testing done. Not so sure how much faith I put in it, because of that, but it is fun! I’ve always thought Batman was super adorable, whatever he is. (you, too, Murph!)

I’ve got 4 dogs, all rescues. Two are mixes, one lab/something mix, one border collie mix. The other two are border collies.

And oh yeah, I laughed until I cried the first time I saw that video!

  5. I have a little mutt, Toby Lerone. He is a chihuahua/Italian Greyhound mix with maybe a little terrier thrown in, and possibly basenji. He has a little chihuahua face but the long legs and lean body of an Italian Greyhound, and can jump SO HIGH for being so small!

  6. When my husband and I moved from NC to CO, we got our mutt tested, too. She ended up being mostly basenji, ridgeback and retriever!

I had never heard of the basenji breed before that, but after seeing pictures- our pup looks just like one! and they are super manipulative 🙂 totally her. I can see the basenji body type in batman! love your blog!

  7. Hahaha that video clip. It made me laugh out loud!
Our dog is a super-mutt, but likely at least half Australian Shepherd. She’s got the colorings of an Aussie, but a stocky body and shorter, tough fur like a Cattle Dog. We do suspect she’s part terrier, the way she growls at us when she doesn’t want to obey. Who knows?

  8. We have a “Bagel Hound” which is a beagle, basset hound mix that we recently rescued from a shelter. She was pregnant when someone dropped her off at the shelter and had a single puppy who is a rotweiler, beagle, basset hound mix, now you talk about a mix!! He was very cute but boy, that had to be hard on our litle girl because he was a BIG boy!!

  9. I love both mix breed and pure breed. My major concern is whether the dog is a shelter dog. Thanks for a batman post. He is my favorite blog dog (after Murphy of course)

  10. I like labs, but I’ll definitely take a mixed-breed dog, in part because they are usually healthier, especially when it comes to certain breeds. We have what we think is a “labraeagle” – a Beagle/Labrador mix, and then our other dog – no idea. We’ve thought about getting him genetically tested, but I’m so skeptical of the tests!

  11. Our pup is a mix too. Of what? We don’t know! I have been looking into the genetic testing lately and I think I am just going to do it. My guess is collie/aussie shep.

  12. as far as we can tell, our pit bully is part pitt, part Labrador. he’s got big ol’ floppy ears, and a TON of energy for the fact that he’s almost two!

my chow is the harder one to pinpoint. she’s either 90% chow mixed with somebody; or 100% chow, and totally off from breed standard. she’s got a polka-dotted tongue!

  13. Hahaha that video was too cute!
We have a mutt who’s a mix of chocolate lab and bloodhound. He’s got floppy ears, plenty of wrinkles and he loves to smell everything!

  14. We have the cutest little dog. She is a white German shepherd / corgi mix. So she looks like a short white German shepherd. When she’s playing with other dogs, she thinks that she is big. But when she’s at home climbing on the back of the couch, she thinks that she is small.

  15. I saw that video a couple of weeks ago! So funny. I have a pug too, but mine is still a puppy. He’s 4 months old and super cute.

  16. Hey, Tina

Our mutt is a mixture but we don’t know what of! I wish I could post a picture so your readers could see – someone might have an idea! (there are photos of him on my blog – he has his own page – if anyone wants to guess). I think he looks a little like an American Bulldog, but I don’t think that’s a common breed here in the UK?

  17. HAHA that video was great. And you thought Murphy was overweight, that pug in that video is overweight 😉

My Abby girl is from a shelter. We think she is a black lab/chow mix. She has the black spots on her tongue 🙂 She definitely has a lot of personality 🙂
I noticed that everytime me or the husband, either lay down or sit down we both sigh. Now she does it too 🙂
Who needs kids when you can have dogs? Or least temporarily until you have kids 🙂

  18. Our dog, Roxy, is 1/2 black lab and 1/2 pitbull and looks like a german shepard w/ the pitbull smile. She’s absolutely ADORABLE! <3

  19. Love mutts! Love pugs too, of course 🙂

I have NO idea what my dog actually is, but she looks like a cross between a german sheppard and a doberman, but in a 35 pound body. She is six, but people constantly stop me to ask if she is a puppy. Need to do the genetics test!

  20. 3 out of my 4 dogs are mutts. One is golden retriever/yellow lab, another is basenji/german shepard/samoa, another is beagle/collie/a few other breeds. My mom also got them genetically tested. She did two tests: one with a cheek swab and one with a blood test. I miss my doggies!
