Where Did Saturday Go?!?

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

Iโ€™m the owner of Carrots โ€˜Nโ€™ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and canโ€™t lose weight no matter what they do.

Woah. Where the heck did Saturday go?!? Before it knew it, it was midnight and I was falling asleep on the couch. Blogging just didn’t happen yesterday. Oops! ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Pre-Workout Snack

As soon as Mal and I woke up, we grabbed fuel for our 9-mile run. We shared a pistachio-chocolate chip muffin and an iced coffee from the Ocean Breeze Cafe. Mmm! It was definitely my type of fuel! ๐Ÿ˜‰

While we ate, we planned a 9-mile loop around Newport.

We headed out toward Ocean Drive.

Passed Fort Adams State Park and Hammersmith Farm.

Then, ended up on Ocean Drive and enjoyed the lovely views.

Gorgeous!! It was one of the prettiest runs I’ve ever done.

We finished the last 3.5 miles along beautiful (and flat!) Bellevue Avenue.

I finished in 1:21:17 (9:01 pace), which was a whole minute faster than my previous 9-mile run in Vermont, and this run was a zillion times more hilly. I definitely took advantage of flat Bellevue Avenue and picked up my pace for the final few miles.

Mal’s recap:ย 9.5 miles 1:09:18 (7:18 pace). ย Good run. Hilly but great views. It was hard to keep negative splits this week. My times fluctuated after mile 5.

Success! 9 miles!

On my run, I rocked my Fuel Belt! It worked great! It didn’t bounce around at all. I was surprised, actually.

Mal and I quickly showered and got ready for the day. We were more than ready to eat breakfast.

At the Ocean Breeze Cafe, we started with iced coffees with cream.

I ordered the egg sandwich with Swiss cheese.

Then, Mal and I walked around, shopped, and enjoyed Newport for a few hours.

And had some fun!

After walking around for awhile, our legs started to get tired, so we stopped by a fun outdoor restaurant with live music to grab a beer.

Of course, I ordered a pumpkin one.

A little while later, Mal’s parents met us for some more shopping and a late lunch.

We ended up at The Landing.

We started with a round of drinks. I went with a glass of Chardonnay. Cheers!!

We split the spinach-artichoke dip.

And a bunch of oysters.

On our walk home, Mal and I got distracted by Skee Ball. We play every year that we come to Newport.

Usually, Mal and I are pretty even when it comes to our Skee Ball skills, but Mal kicked my butt! He must have practiced since last year. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Then, we went back to the condo, watched the Oregon football game, and ate pizza from Firehouse Pizza. I gobbled up three pieces. My appetite was en fuego yesterday!

Gotta boogie! Heading to breakfast now!

  1. Sounds like you had a great day – the weather was so beautiful too!

I used to live not too far from Newport – I miss the gorgeous scenery. Firehouse was a great restaurant too – next time you should go to the Black Pearl – one of my faves.

    Enjoy your Sunday!

  2. I love Newport! My college roomie and I plan a trip there every fall. The Landing used to be one of my favorite hot spots in college… it’s really fun in the summer! Looks like you guys are having fun.

  3. What a beautiful place to run ๐Ÿ™‚
But blerrgh at the oysters! I’ve never had them, bu I’ve heard such terrible terrible things about them…

  4. Yay for Newport running! There’s a 10-miler there every summer that I used to do when I lived in Boston. Totally beautiful, but it was always in late July, starting at 630 pm, and it was, without fail, 90 at the start. One year it was so hot that the area after the finish line looked like a battlefield, with people laying all over the grass. Quite the challenge, though, and makes me think kindly on the Norcal “heat,” whenever we actually have anything remotely close to that…

  5. Looks like a wonderful, relaxing day! The spinach and artichoke dip looked quite tempting ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve never been to Newport, but it definitely looks like a nice place to visit.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  6. I love Newport! I always wanted to go to Salve Regina just for the view. Running along the ocean must be amazing. Looks like you had fun!

  7. I am glad the weather in Newport improved yesterday! Bo and I have decided that you all balance the stress of life with these weekend getaways very well!

Hopefully, Bo and I can enjoy a weekend trip to Boston soon. ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. What state did you visit a Newport in? My husband and I are going to Newport, OR for our anniversary soon and I thought what a coincidence! Then I realized, there is probably more than one Newport in the country! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  9. You have officially motivated me to get out of bed and explore the city today!

Also, I love that you say “en fuego” about various things…I do too!!!

  10. Hi Tina, I have a question about your marathon training! (I’m also training for my first…)

What is your goal marathon pace? You said that you picked up the pace for the end of your long run today, and from what I remember, you’ve ran the last couple long runs pretty fast too. I’ve been doing a ton of reading since I started training, and most people advise running your long weekend run at least 60-90 seconds slower per mile than your goal pace. What do you think about this? Does your training plan recommend it? I’m just curious as to how you are planning your runs as far as pace! Good luck with the rest of your training!

  11. I really, really want to go to Rhode Island now! I read the other day that it’s one of the least dangerous states in the US, with fewer natural disasters than its other New England neighbors. Plus it looks gorgeous. I wonder if there’s a good job market for librarians….

  12. I love skee ball. I don’t play it nearly as often as I should! Not sure where exactly to play skee ball though – Dave and Busters, I guess.

  13. I am a firm believer that Ocean side runs are good for the soul!!! รฎยโ€

At least they are for mine!!!

Looks like you’ve had a wonderful weekend. How fantastic that the weather took a turn for the better!

  14. What a great way to spend the day with your husband. You are fortunate that you both have a love for running.

  15. Seems you ran part of the route for the Amica Marathon/UnitedHealthcare Half Marathon that’s happening in two weeks! It’s my first ever half marathon… and I had somehow convinced myself looking at the elevation map that it wasn’t all too hilly, but from what you said, I was wrong! Uh oh… hope I’m not in trouble… at least there will be gorgeous views ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Mmmm I love fall themed beers, I have a 6-pack of New Belgium Hoptober in my fridge right now and can’t wait to break into tonight!
The run sounds like an absolute dream, I’m so jealous of those views!

  17. I’m so excited you went to The Landing!!! I work there over the summer and always wanted you to go! What did you think of the food and the view? How about the service? I hope you loved it! ๐Ÿ™‚
