What’s Up Wednesday

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Heyyyy! What’s up? How’s life? Anything new? I just wanted to share what we’ve been up to the past couple of days. Here goes!

Quinn decided that we wants to be a bald eagle for Halloween. He loves birds and does a really great “caw-caw,” so we figured it would be the perfect costume for him. He’s going to look so adorable! FYI: I bought the bald eagle costume from Amazon.

Speaking of Halloween costumes, I got a free tote for trick-or-treating with Quinn. We needed more diapers, wipes, and pouches, so I placed an order on Boxed and got a free tote! Cool!

I finally bought a new tote bag. Remember when I was obsessed with my sister’s Timi & Leslie bag? (FYI: Timi & Leslie makes stylish diaper bags.) Well, after searching high and low for a new tote bag, I finally went with the “Dawn” diaper bag from Timi & Leslie. I used to carry Quinn’s diaper bag + my bag, which was kind of annoying, so now everything will be together in one place. I ordered my new bag online from Nordstrom, and I cannot wait to get it!

Yesterday, I did the workout below at CrossFit South Shore. (I’m doing a trial month to see how often I can get to classes.) I scaled the weight for this workout to #55, which was a really good decision because my grip was smoked by the end. I finished in 14:16.

Nautical Nancy Lurong WOD

On Monday afternoon, I did the treadmill workout below and covered just over 5 miles. I liked this one a lot. Intervals on the treadmill are FUN!

50-Minute Treadmill Workout

I also discovered a new machine at the gym. Well, actually, Mal introduced me to it. It was really tough””it’s a lung-smoker and full-body workout for sure. I want to do a running + Ski Erg interval workout soon”” like run on the treadmill, hop off to do the Ski Erg, and then back on the treadmill. That would be a serious workout!

I made Cheeseburger Casserole for dinner last night. It is seriously one of Gina’s best recipes. It’s so easy to make and turns out well every time! Definitely give it a try if you haven’t already!

Question of the Day

What’s your little one going to be for Halloween?

What are YOU going to be for Halloween?

What new machine did you recently discover at the gym?

P.S. SoulCycle is opening in Back Bay at the end of the month. I am beyond excited. Hingham next??

P.P.S. For the pumpkin-lovers: Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Foods, Ranked From Worst to Best

  1. Oh my gosh, I love the eagle costume!! My little guy will be 5 months old so we’re trying to figure out a good costume for him 🙂 And that treadmill workout looks great! I have started loving (okay, liking…) the treadmill again after living in the steamy Florida summer.

  2. Oh my gosh that eagle costume! Quinn is going to look so cute! I love the SkiErg…such a killer cardio and triceps workout. I’ve been loving Surge lately. It’s a giant tube filled with water to help train your core. It’s so brutal!

  3. We had a costume party a couple weeks ago and my boyfriend and I dressed up as Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump 😀 Was a really fun idea! Just had to pin my hair into a short pseudo-bob and temporarily dye it blonde for the night, but the home made Vote Hillary 2016 pin and American flag were the key props 😉

  4. Love the bald eagle costume! So cute! I don’t have kids and I’m too old to trick or treat, so I don’t usually dress up. Sometimes we’ll have something at work and last time I was Google Maps with a friend (I was point A and she was point B). That machine sounds really neat..I would love a post talking about some different machines that you like to use at the gym! I want to start free lifting and don’t even know where to start..

  5. Our son (he’s 2) loves the Stanley books, he’s a little hamster that does various things, so he’s going to be a mechanic and we’re going to turn his wagon into a tow truck using boxes (well we’re going to try). Not sure I’ll dress up this year though.

I haven’t gone to the gym in 4 years but I used to LOVE the Jacob’s latter!! Full body sweat session!

  6. I don’t think I’ll be dressing up for Halloween this year. It’s not really my favorite holiday but I do love to see how the little kiddos dress up so that will be fun!

Also, is it awkward if I get a diaper bag and don’t have a baby? That bag is so cute!!

  7. That bald eagle costume is amazing! So cute! Can’t wait to see pics of Quinn wearing it. My 2-year old son is going to be Curious George, he loves making monkey sounds! I think my husband and I are going to dress up as Wayne and Garth. Ha! Have a great day! 🙂

  8. I wanted my little girl to be a cowgirl (we live in Texas) but the prices for the outfit, undershirt and boots made me rethink it. So we got her a Minnie Mouse costume from Cosco and she loves it. When they are really young they just don’t care. I think it is really us who care, but that is Ok too.

  9. My little one is going to be a pumpkin – We actually have a wedding Halloween night :-/ so we are going to the Stone Zoo (in Stoneham) in a couple of weeks to see some animals and do some trick or treating!
I don’t really have a costume for halloween because of the wedding but I do have a great pair of vampire fangs I like to throw in my mouth, so I may do that!

What are you and Mal dressing as?

  10. Halloween costumes are so much fun!

I went as Buffy last year, so I’m tempted to go as Drusilla this year and just be a different character from Buffy the Vampire Slayer every year. 😀

That machine looks awesome! I am back to the main area of the gym now that the fitness classes don’t work so well for me, timing-wise – it’s going to be interesting to play around with the different machines that I haven’t tried yet.

  11. Do not be fooled by the Pumpkin Joe Joe’s being second on that list, they are amazing.. and I am not even a “pumpkin person”. It’s like an oreo but with real and thicker filling plus pumpkin!

  12. that machine looks killer. Is it like cross country skiing? Also which gym do you belong to? I am trying to decide on a new gym..back to LA Fitness or try FitFactory in Braintree!

  13. Ahh I didn’t know there were so many pumpkin freezer items at trader joes can’t wait to check them out! A new machine I have been using at the gym, which I am mad I never used it is the smith machine, I often don’t have a spotter and it makes lifting heavy so much safer!

  14. How do you get the scope of the free items from Boxed? I’m so disappointed, we just made an order last night and didn’t know about the free tote!

  15. Little kids in costumes is the cutest thing ever. I am going to hand out candy at my house for the first time this year and I can’t wait to see all the kiddos dressed up! I have no clue what I am being yet!

  16. The ERG was a new to me machine too! Our box is one of the few in the area that has one. It’s definitely a “cookie tosser” but one heck of a workout!

  17. I can’t believe a bald eagle Halloween costume exists! We bought pig costumes for Hannah and our dog and I’ll wear my pig ears/nose/tail. 3 little pigs!
