I’ve heard so much about Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred, I just had to see what it was all about. I didn’t want to commit to buying the DVD until I at least had a preview first, so I went searching. It turns out that Level 1 and Level 2 of the 30 Day Shred are on Exercise TV! Wahoo! I previewed Level 1 (for free) last night and it looks like a fairly challenging workout.

I was planning to “shred” this morning, but Mr. Mal brought our friend Andy home after the Celtics game last night, so I didn’t want to disturb him while he slept on our couch in the living room. Shredding is on the agenda for tonight though! I’m actually really looking forward to it! Do you “shred”?

Breakfast

I changed it up again with breakfast this morning. I had yogurt instead of oats. What can I say, I’m crazy! 😉

In the mix: Stonyfield plain yogurt, CNC Muesli Mix (from MixMyGranola), Peace cereal, pumpkin seeds, and pecans.

I also ate a very juicy grapefruit

With iced coffee…

Lunch Preview

I wasn’t sure if I would have time to blog at lunchtime later today, so I figured I’d throw in a quick lunch preview this morning.

Today’s lunch: Lavash’s bread with a thick layer of peanut butter, Medjool dates, banana, Pure Bar, and diced tomatoes mixed with wasabi horseradish

Question of the Day

Do you use exercise DVDs to stay in shape? Do you think that you get a good workout from them? Which DVDs are your favorite?

  1. Yep, hubby and I will start shredding next week. Was supposed to start today but I hurt my neck/shoulder. Anyway, I’ll be doing a case study on it and posting to my blog.

As for workout dvd’s, I have a TON. I use a wide variety but mostly Walk Away the Pounds. I have a lot of kickboxing ones too like Turbo Jam but had to put that on hold indefinitely due to knee issues. I definitely get a good workout from them. I lost over 80+ lbs with just WATP and Turbo Kick when I first started my new lifestyle.

Oh and I love the wasabi horseradish! Sooo good.

  2. I was shredding a lot before but found the plyometric moves in Level 3 really hurting my knees,so I have taken a bit of a sabbatical. I think when I started again I’l just avoid those moves!

  3. I just want to tell you that I finally found Barney Butter this morning, and I love it! I live in Chicago but I’m traveling in CA, and I had to buy it! And also for introducing me to Pure Bars, they are great. I’ll be eating the Blueberry one today! Thanks again, love your blog!

  4. I love to “Shred” with Jillian. I feel it during the workout, especially my upper body since that’s where I’m weak. I try to do it a couple times a week, mostly on cross training or light run days.

    Your food looks delish!

  5. Yes, I have been “shredding” since May 2008 when these videos first appeared On Demand. I’ve done all levels 1-3 and they are supurb. Level 2 is probably the most taxing personally for me – even though that sounds odd? Jillian is great and I attribute her to keeping me in great shape despite a busy schedule with limited time for exercise! Also note that she has two new videos on demand that are FANTASTIC – one is a 40 minute body sculpt routine and the other a 60 minute metabolism blast with some incorporated resistance using your own body weight. Awesome!

  6. i got the 30 day shred around christmas time, and use it when i don’t have time to go to the gym – love that i can get a full workout in in under 30 minutes! i mix it up between the levels – definitely have recommended it to friends 🙂

  7. I have been using the Shred DVD but not regularly. I throw it into the mix every now and then. I have done all 3 levels and level 3 is TOUGH!

  8. i used to run run run but thanks to recent injuries, i’ve had to start doing some workout videos. now, i love to supplement my runs with P-90X videos (love the plyometric one, it’s killer!) and the biggest loser dvds (i highly recommend weight loss yoga and cardio max). i also have biggest loser boot camp but it’s too killer for my puny muscles…i don’t have light enough weights to handle all of the moves. it’s been great doing these videos…they get my heart rate up and they’re a nice change of pace!

  9. I don’t use exercise tapes daily, but I have been known to to a Tai Bo tape at home 🙂 It’s A LOT of fun, and such a great workout!

Your lunch looks sooo good! Tomatoes + wasabi horshradish?? YUM

  10. I’ve definitely heard of the Shred, but Jillian scares me a little bit. I want to get some exercise dvd’s, maybe a yoga one. It would be great for when I don’t have time to get to the gym. Does anybody have any suggestions?

  11. hi there 🙂 love your website btw – I’m a new follower! I have been doing the Tracey Anderson dvd’s – trainer to Madonna and Gwenyth Paltrow – and they are AMAZING. They are a mix of dance/pilates and really kick your butt. You can find them on Amazon.com. She preaches having a dancers “teeny tiny” body by doing these tapes – and seriously…I have noticed a HUGE difference. Worth a try! 🙂 Thanks for the fantastic website and hope you are well – Have a great weekend!

  12. I used to do various step aerobic DVDs six days a week, but since breaking my leg quite severely, I’m forbidden from any sort of exercise that isn’t completely non-impact. They definitely provided a FABULOUS workout though.

  13. I am a devoted DVD home exerciser and i basically rotate between any of Jillian Michaels’ DVDs and The FIRM workouts. I find that those all provide actually challenging workouts and I’m definitely more toned than I was before I started using those DVDs. The two new Jillian Michaels DVDs are especially intense!

  14. You can definitely get a great workout from a home dvd, especially if you invest in some good weights. I’ve been shredding for a little over 30 days now (because I skipped a few days, I’m going to do it a few times) and I really love it! Because it’s only 20 minutes, I feel like I can always squeeze it in, although I admit I plan on stopping doing it regularly in a few days. This dvd definitely changed my mind about workout dvds, though. I plan on trying other dvds by Jillian. She’s one tough cookie! 🙂

  15. I do most of my exercise at the gym but I love using workout dvd’s to get a little strength training in. I never know what to do with the machines at the gym so I like shredding as a way to get some strength training done in a fun, quick way. I do think that if you put some effort into it, you can get a good workout.

  16. I’ve never used workout DVDs, but I’m curious to try them. Especially Shred. I prefer to workout mostly at the gym, but it’s nice to have something rigorous when you’re at home.

  17. I just tried 30 day shred a few days ago…super sore…. I need to alternate it with other workouts! I have a feeling it will shape me up!

  18. I’ve never been a fan of exercise DVDs; I never feel like I’ve worked as hard with them as I do in my normal workouts. Nonetheless, I always keep 1 or 2 of Self’s fitness DVDs in my apartment for emergencies.

  19. I like to use DVD to change up my rountine. I love Crunch fat burning Pilates and exercise TV to try something new. I have done Jillian’s fat burning work-out and I could not walk for 2 days after I love that feeling.

  20. The only exercise dvds I own are some Pilates ones. I like them, because it’s cheaper than taking classes, and I think that would be the only reason I would buy any other exercise dvds. Sure, you don’t get the variety, but I’m cheap, what can I say?!
