What We’ve Been Up to Lately

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Hi, friends! Happy, happy, happy Friday!

I’m not sure if you noticed, but I did a little less blogging this week. After my digital detox over the weekend, I realized that I really need to take care of myself and not work so much and, well, sleep, so that’s exactly what I did. I actually went back to bed a few mornings this week after feeding Q instead of starting my day at 5:00 AM (well, technically, 3:00/3:30 AM), and it was awesome.

I realized when I get enough sleep, I am a totally different person. I’m focused and present, less high-strung, and just more upbeat and positive. I also felt more balanced than I ever have with regard to work-life responsibilities. Basically, this past week was a real wake-up call for me. Anyway, I haven’t checked in with you guys very much, so here is a little update to tell you what we’ve been up to lately!

Mal and I worked out together this week. Just like old times! Mimi and Papi came to visit on Tuesday, so Mal and I hit up a lunchtime class at 781. It was so fun WOD-ing together!

We finally hung the dinosaur prints in the nursery. It only took us two months, but they’re finally up! FYI: The prints are from Etsy and the frames are from Amazon.

Q is doing great! He’s growing like crazy, smiling and laughing everyday (OMG, so cute)…

And pooping like a champ! Yep, that’s drippy mustard poo and it went EVERYWHERE… down the front of my tank top and sweatpants, on the floor, up Q’s back and even between his toes. I still have no idea how it happened. It’s not like he wasn’t wearing a diaper!?! #poopexplosion

Murphy developed some weird growth on the side of his foot. Gross, right? It randomly popped up out of nowhere about three weeks ago. It hasn’t gotten any worse, but it definitely hasn’t gotten any better. It doesn’t seem to bother him, but we still thought he should get it checked out, so I took him to the vet earlier this week.

The vet did a fine-needle aspiration to test the cells inside the growth, which Murphy hated (he even yelped), but he was pumped about the treats afterward. I’m pretty sure he forgot about any pain once he was chowing down on Milk Bones. Thankfully, the growth is benign, and the vet said it should go away on its own in 3-4 months.

I started training for a fall 10k. I am pretty excited about getting back into running again. I really missed it. I thought about training for a half marathon this fall, but it’s so time-consuming even without a newborn, so I’m not sure I can fully commit to it. Plus, I really want to run my next half with Team Challenge and none of their fall/winter races worked for me, so maybe I will train with them next spring. My training plan is: run more often, increase my distance, run faster, have fun.

My UC symptoms came back. Whomp whomp. Between changing hormones and not sleeping, I think my body just spazzed out. I started experiencing symptoms a few weeks ago, and I called my doctor as soon as things started to get weird. Right now, I’m on a low-dose of steroids and PRAYING they chill out my immune system. Otherwise, I’ll start Remicade (the best option while breast feeding, according to my doctor), which scares the crap out of me. I know it helps tons and tons of people, but the thought of going to the hospital every other month and getting a 3-hour infusion does not sit well with me. *Sigh*

I did yoga on the rooftop of The Colonnade Hotel, and it was glorious. Every Wednesday morning until the end of the summer, The Colonnade Hotel offers a Vinyasa class from 7:00 – 8:00 AM on the rooftop. How cool is that? The class is free to hotel guests and just $15 for non-guests. You just need to sign up beforehand. It was quite an amazing way to start the day!

Question of the Day

How’s life? Tell me something cool that recently happened to you!

  1. Hey Tina! I just wanted to say in regards to the annoying/critical/panties-in-a-twist comments that have been popping up lately – you can’t please ’em all, so tough luck for them! I roll my eyes every time I see one of those dumb comments. A baby is THE most life-changing event EVER. What you need is support, and nothing else. You don’t owe anyone an apology for anything, not that you’re doing that. Just keep up all your good work!

  2. Tina, please don’t let the thought of remicade stop you from doing it. My daugher, now 24, started at 14…it was really a life safer for her. She has severe crohns and does remicade every 10/11 weeks …and for her it is a miracle drug. It is expensive…so just check your health care on cost and coverage, but it may very well be the answer to all your ongoing pain.

  3. That’s so fun you and Mal could wod together 🙂 Oh man, sleep is so amazing, huh!? I love it sooooo much. Luckily my baby (usually) loves it too, haha.

How’s life for me? Awesome! Just extra happy it’s Friday so I can see my husband a bit more, he’s been busy.

  4. Ahhh I am the Team Challenge Endurance Manager in south FL. Would love to see you at one of the great events next spring!! Feel better.

  5. Oh man! I do not miss the poop explosions!! I think my son’s most EPIC one was when it happened while my husband and I were getting ready for work…we didn’t know he had pooped. My son had started walking, overflowed his diaper and it got in his socks, shoes….EVERYWHERE! And bc we hadn’t noticed he had pooped, he had tracked poop marks all over our house (thankfully we had hardwood floors at the time). It was such a mess!! We called it poop-pocalypse! hahaha

Anyway, Q is a total cutie. I love seeing his pics!

  6. I LOVE getting my remicade infusions because it forces me to take a couple hours off of work and I just get to chill and relax! Pretty sad, but when else do you get waited on by lovely caring nurses? Plus they give you food and you get to watch t.v. – in the afternoon!

  7. Q is such a cutie!! And what a lucky little guy with his stylish nursery! Lol

I don’t know if someone asked this already but how will you balance training for a race with Crossfit? I’m training for a 10 miler and a Spartan race that are a month apart (Trying to do it, oops!) and I feel like when I focus on my strength for Spartan I get sore muscles and don’t feel like I’m giving my all to my runs. Do you have this issue as well?

In cool life news, I just won a trip to the iHeart Radio Music Festival in Vegas next month! So I’m planning where to run and workout while having fun in Sin City as well!

    1. That is a good question, my friend. It’s kind of tough because you want to do it all, but you need rest days too. I’ve trained for half marathons while doing CrossFit and the only way I could do both was cutting back on CrossFit. I’d typically run 2-3 times a week with 2-3 CF workouts and took plenty of rest days when I needed them.

  8. My wedding reception was at The Colonnade – love it there! Our cocktail hour was supposed to be on the rooftop, but it rained that day 🙂 I’m gonna have to check out the yoga. Sounds divine!

  9. Tina,

I know you mentioned awhile ago a few things you were doing to keep Murphys shedding in check. I was just curious if you are doing anything more now that baby Q is here? We have a dachshund and she sheds like crazy. I’m also a new mom (my daughter is 3 months) and the fur seems to be bothering her. Obviously I’ve already talked to my pediatrician for help but I was just curious to hear if you are doing anything different? I feel like I should be vacuuming everything every.single.day! Thanks

    1. We haven’t really besides vacuuming more. Q seems ok around Murphy’s fur, but we do our best to keep things fur-free as much as possible. It’s tough with a pug!
