Citizen Cope spoke to me on my 4-mile run this morning:

Well a son’s gonna rise in a mile
In a mile
You’ll be feeling fine
In a mile you will see
After me
You’ll be out of the dark, yeah
You’ll get your shot

I know this song has nothing to do with running, but the lyrics helped get me through my workout. In a mile, I felt fine. Those words were exactly what I needed to keep trucking along. It’s funny how music can really speak to you.

Have you ever had a song speak to you? If so, which one and why?

Lunch

There’s were quite a few leftovers from last night’s taco bar, so I used them to make a kickass taco salad with all of the fixings. I never order taco salads in restaurants, but homemade ones are awesome because you can control what goes into them.

In the mix: iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, ground beef, avocado, salsa, and Greek yogurt.

After lunch, I enjoyed a sweet treat: Banana Soft Serve with butterscotch chips.

Snack

Mid-afternoon, I snacked on some Honey-Roasted Sweet Potatoes. I used this recipe, but only used sweet potatoes. They practically tasted like dessert!

Blog Dogs

Holy moly! I had no idea that my Blog Dogs series would be such a hit! I’ve received close to 300 photos already!! I plan to post every single one, but it’s going to take some time. So, my new plan is to make Blog Dogs a permanent weekly (or biweekly) feature on CNC. I’m posting the photos in the order that I received them in my inbox, so if you sent me a dog photo, keep a look out for it in the coming weeks.

P.S. Thanks for all of the supportive comments on my post this morning. I cannot tell you how much it means to me. I even got a little choked up reading some of them. You guys are the best!

  1. That song totally gets me through, too! The good old standby, though, is Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.” It gets me in the zone!

I loved your post this morning but didn’t have a chance yo comment. I so appreciate your guts and honesty. Although I know weight is certainly a touchy subject for some, it gives me hope when I know others struggle with the same things I do. It’s not always something I like to talk about with friends, so it’s refreshing to be part of an open and honest conversation in the blog world. Thanks so much!

  2. I agree with Katie, Eminem’s “Lose Yourself”, totally gets me in the zone and pushes me to the next level. However, the song “Against the Wind” by Bob Seger has the opposite effect….reminds me of a kid riding my bike literally against the wind!

  3. That exact song speaks to me too! I listen to it after the first mile of 5k’s.. before I know it the race is over! Love Citizen Cope. I also like to listen to Hurricane Waters. “I will carry you through the hurricane waters, And I’ll remember you in the blue skies”

  4. Seems like “Lose Yourself” is a popular choice!! That one definitely speaks to me. So does “Come With Me” by P Diddy, Puff Daddy, whoever he was when he did that one 😉

  5. I just downloaded a few new songs yesterday and it is just amazing how music can completely effect your mood and energy levels! I walked 2 miles in no time at all (seems wimpy compared to you, but I’m okay with that haha)

  6. right now pink’s “f*cking perfect” song is one of my newer favorite running songs. but my all time favorite is “somewhere only we know” by keane. its a slower song, but on a long run, its heavenly.

btw – i LOVED the Blog Dogs post. made me miss my family’s pup.

  7. This also has nothing to do with running but some of the lyrics help for that last mile. Young the Giant “My Body”:
“My Body tells me no, but I won’t quit
cause I want more, cause I want more
My Body tells me no, but I won’t quit
cause I want more, cause I want more
Oh, it’s my road, it’s my road, it’s my road
It’s my road, it’s my road, iIt’s my road”

  8. Daniel Bedingfield’s “Gotta Get Thru This” – pretty self explanatory, so good for running. I like the acoustic version 🙂

  9. In college, when I was going through a tough freshman year, there was a Savage Garden song “Hold Me” that I loved listening to.

“I’ve never been the praying kind
But lately I’ve been down upon my knees
    Not looking for a miracle
    Just a reason to believe.”

And my theme song in college was “I Am Home” from OAR especially the line about finding “my original crew”. 🙂
