What I’m Loving Lately XXX

Hi, friends!

I can’t believe Friday is almost here. Did this week fly by for anyone else? Holy cow. I feel like it was just Monday morning. Yowsahs. Time warp. Anyway, here’s another edition of What I’m Loving Lately, which has easily become one of my favorite posts to write on CNC. I hope you guys enjoy them too and feel free to tell me what you’re digging in the comment section below.

Cinnamon Raisin Avocado Toast with Sea Salt – My new favorite snack! It might sound like a weird combo, but, trust me, it’s delicious!

Serial – OMG. Obsessed. THANK YOU to everyone who told me about it. I’m more than halfway through, and I can’t wait to listen again during my next run!

How One New Yorker Lives Comfortably In 90 Square Feet – I love stuff like this. I am obsessed with the tiny studio apartments in IKEA, and I have this crazy dream of living in a small, super organized space. Is that weird?

Cheerios + Ancient Grains – I didn’t think I was a Cheerios person until I tried this cereal. (My friends at General Mills sent it to me.) I think the reason why I like it so much is because there’s so much going on in it (Cheerios + oats + quinoa + KAMUT wheat + spelt), and I’m totally one of those people who mixes my cereals together when I eat them””like I rarely eat a bowl of just rice Chex. It’s usually rice Chex mixed with granola and maybe some Cinnamon Toast Crunch. I like having each bite taste a little different. I also love this cereal because you can eat a lot of it! (Heyyyy, marathon training!) A 3/4 cup serving, which is pretty big, is just 110 calories, so I can eat 2 or 3 or 4 bowls and not overdo it with my cereal calories for the day.

Cats Knocking Sh*t Over – Two and a half minutes of cats being jerks. Haha!

This Starbucks mug from The Dot Collection – The nice folks from Starbucks recently sent it to me, and I fell in love instantly. It’s sophisticated and pretty with flecks of silver and gold, but it’s also a heavy-duty, high-quality ceramic tumbler, so it’s great for both hot or cold beverages. I’ve used it non-stop lately!

Oatmeal – My newest breakfast kick! My current way of making it: On the stove top, combine 1/3 cup rolled oats, 1/3 cup liquid egg whites, 2/3 cup almond milk, 1/2 sliced banana + chia seeds, and then I mash up the banana as stir the oatmeal. I cook it until it’s nice and thick, add a big scoop of Teddie peanut butter, and eat. Perfection!

  1. Happy Thursday Tina! I love when you do “What I’m loving lately” posts as well..they’re probably my favorites 🙂

I’ve been having avocado toast every day for breakfast, but I’m not sure if I want to try it with cinnamon raisin toast…Seems a too little strange for me!

Serial is SUCH a great podcast! I hope they come out with a new season really soon. I also really like Invisibilia, which is another NPR podcast. The stories they tell are so interesting and really different than anything I’ve ever heard about. The ladies that narrate have such soothing voices as well, so I love to listen to it on the way to work.

  2. I have listened to 2 episodes and then I just stopped. Idk why. My sister has listened to it twice and now wants me to solve the case with her. I think I was listening to it before while I was on the treadmill and since Im not on it as much anymore I dont really think about it.

One thing I am loving today is that I got another Huff Post article published today on disordered eating. Sweet!

  3. I’m one of the few who has yet to jump on the Serial bandwagon, in fact I never listen to Podcasts. Although I don’t eat cereal very often, when I do, I also like to mix a few kinds together. And avo toast? Sounds delish! Have a great Thursday! 🙂

  4. I love the Starbucks mug…Their ceramic mugs are so nice! I usually only take them out if I think I’m not going to be moving around a lot…I’m accident prone! They’re good for around the house and road trips for me, lol:)

  5. I am obsessed with cinnamon raisin toast, avocado, and sea salt. Its amazing. I also throw some applegate turkey slices on there sometimes too. yum!

  6. I love these posts! Half the time, I end up discovering something new. Right now, I’m down for the count with bronchitis, so I am loving blankets, Food Network reruns, and iced coffee!

  7. I have never listened to any podcast before…but have heard about Serial from different places. I have had that type of Cheerios and LOVED it. I too love to mix my cereals…mostly have a healthy fiber type with a small addition of a yummy kind (at the moment…chocolate chex) with some sliced banana generally.

  8. I love avocado spread on whole wheat toast with sliced tomatoes and sea salt! Cinnamon and raisin bread with avocado sounds like a great substitute for a bagel and cream cheese craving.

Serial is great…you’ll like it all the way through!

  9. After each episode of Serial you must then listen to the corresponding Slate spoilers episode. I was totally riveted! Best commuting time ever.

  10. That looks like an interesting cereal! Curious if you were able to find out from your trip GM’s stance on GMO’s? I try to stay away from GMO’s as best as possible, but realistically just can’t do it for everything, so do what I can!

  11. I decided tonight to sign up for the Open…I wasn’t sure if I was going to do it since I don’t actually know how many of the WODs I’ll be able to do because of 50 States In A Year but I figured, why not try? If I only get to do 1, then so be it but if I get to do more, even better! And after watching tonight I’M SO EXCITED!!!!

  12. so many good finds – yes, i agree that your cinnamon raisin avocado toast sounds weird lol but hey i shouldn’t knock it til i try it! going to check out that dollar post and the pasta dish!

  13. Tina – if you like Tiny you should check out FYI channel – they have two shows Tiny House Hunting and Tiny House Nation – its fascinating!

  14. I love and hate at the same time that someone is selling snow. A fun idea for new englanders who have moved away missing the snow and i hate that i didn’t think of it… hahah.

  15. Serial was so good! So addicting! It really made me question our justice system, and peoples’ memories in general, kinda freaky. Can’t wait for season 2. Tina you should watch the SNL skit about it if you haven’t yet- too funny!

  16. I am still laughing about the shipsnowyo website, what a hilarious idea! I’m ashamed to admit that I have never listened to a Podcast, but this might be my motivation to branch and try it. I have been wanting to for a while 🙂

  17. I have a friend that is planning to buy a tiny house with her husband. I can’t wait to see it! Those cheerios sound amazing! Also that is how I make my oatmeal too. I love using half oat bran and half oats, and adding a dash of almond extract and cinnamon. It makes it even better!

  18. every morning I have EZ toast w/mashed avocado and a friend egg, yum!
I loved Serial, a great way to pass time sitting in traffic on my ride home each night. I cannot wait for Season 2.

Oh my husband and I are obsessed with Tiny house nation. We so want one. we are getting some great ideas for a tiny lake house we are looking at!

  19. I love that cat video 🙂 Seems pretty accurate…

And I agree that Serial is addictive. My husband and I listened to it while driving (a lot) over the holidays to visit our respective families. So compelling. I find that I still think about it quite a bit, a few months later.

  20. The avocado on cinnamon toast does sound really weird, but I bet it is really good. Lately I’ve been obsessed with egg sandwiches on cinnamon raisin bread… with bacon… and cheese… and spinach to make it healthy right? lol

Really though, sweet salty combo? Please sign me up!

  21. I miss Serial,I am looking forward to a new season.
    Other ones I like lately:
    wycwyc healthy bloggers chatting
    Snap Judgement-musical storytelling
    The Moth-Storytelling
    Risk-Storytelling
two new ones I just subscribed to:
    Criminal
Stuff you missed in History Class

I have become a podcast junkie! lol

  22. I listened to Serial and really enjoyed it and was sad it was over. Excited there is a new season coming.
Cheerios is my favorite cereal but I also love to mix cereals together! I need to try that ancient grains ASAP!

  23. Tiny houses – love them! I’m not entirely sure why because I know I will never actually squeeze my family into 100 square feet (with 5 dogs, it’s just not happening!) But I still love to see what creative and decisive people can do in a miniscule space – I clicked through the link you posted and fell into the rabbit hole of tiny home galleries 🙂

  24. Serial is awesome!!! It’s so easy to get hooked!

I’m loving two-ingredient pancakes with a scoop of PB and Friday workouts with November Project (www.november-project.com). And I will soon be loving this next season of House of Cards!! Can’t wait to start watching!

  25. Love Fridays and your What I’m Loving Lately posts! I really need to start Serial. So much has been said about and it concerns Maryland.

I’m still loving Carrot Cake Oatmeal – so easy! 1/3 oats, sprinkle of salt, about 1 tbsp shredded carrots (and sometimes shredded apples too), more than a cup of water. Heat in microwave for 2:30. Stir. Heat in microwave another :30. Take out and mix in heavy sprinkle of cinnamon, some ginger, sweetener of your choice (stevia for me), a dash of vanilla, more than a pinch of shredded coconut (I have sweetened but unsweetened would work), and some milk, the amount determined by you (I use almond). Make this the night before and it grows a lot. Voila! Cold oatmeal – my current favorite – is served.
