What I’m Loving Lately XXV

Happy Friday! Only 13 days until Christmas! Gah! I should probably start my holiday shopping, huh? Anyone else not purchased a single present yet? I need to get my act together ASAP.

Here’s another edition of What I’m Loving Lately!

Lip Flip with Jimmy Fallon and Ricky Gervais – Two of my favorite celebrities… this was SO FUNNY!!

Quinn and Murphy’s relationship – These two are really becoming good buddies, and I love watching them interact with one another.

Cinnamon-Sugar Streusel Baked French Toast – I know what I am making for Christmas morning brunch! Holy cow, this looks amazing!

14 Thoughts Every Runner Has During a Cold Run

Making baby food – My sister let me borrow her Babycook machine to make baby food for Quinn, and I love it so far. I’ve made sweet potatoes, bananas, and apples for Quinn, and we have peas, asparagus, and peaches on the list next. We are really excited about starting Quinn on solids and having so much fun with him. We are also really happy with our decision to feed our child this way.

These 17 Ill-Behaved Pugs Just Got Shamed By Their Owners – Pugs are the greatest creatures on earth.

This Holly Jolly Roger headband from my friends at JUNK – I am obsessed. I can’t wait to wear it for a 5K that I am running this weekend!

34 “Elf” Quotes That Never Get Old – Best holiday movie ever. And I quote it all year long. Murphy does too. He likes to say, “I just like to smile. Smiling’s my favorite.” Haha!

Smiling's my favorite!

8 Killer Treadmill Classes (Plus Cardio Workouts to Try Now)

Did You Know What The Most Popular Breed Is In Your City And State? – Not every state in the US has an official state dog, however, every state has one most popular dog breed. I was sad to see that the pug is not a popular statewide dog. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS AT ALL, but it was still really interesting to see the most popular dogs in each state.

This book: It Sucked and Then I Cried: How I Had a Baby, a Breakdown, and a Much Needed Margarita. I’m reading it on Oyster right now and, boy, can I relate. There are sections of this book that I feel like I could have written myself. Having a baby is really hard at times and this book definitely makes me feel like less of a crazy person! Haha!

it sucked and then i cried

Yogurt + granola – Can we all agree this is one of the best snacks ever?!

Questions of the Day

What are you loving lately?

What’s up for the weekend?

  1. I am loving granola lately too! I actually just ate a bowl for breakfast.

I loved starting lochlyn on solids. She is 9 months old now and starting to eat the same foods as us. She is trying salmon for the first time today. Hope she loves it!

  2. In Texas we have a movie theater called the Alamo Drafthouse – and they show Elf every Christmas – but it’s a quote-along! They show the subtitles for the best quotes for the audience to shout along to and they even give you props and stuff to toss around during the movie – it’s awesome!

  3. Oh man… That Cinnamon Sugar Streusel Baked French Toast looks incredible! I think I need that for Christmas morning too. 😉

That’s so fun that Murphy and Quinn are growing their own little bond. I’ve seen Hunter and our dogs continue to grow in their relationships too, and it’s so fun.

  4. I’ve been loving the snow we just got here in Toronto yesterday. Traffic is slower but it’s starting to look a lot more like Christmas this way. I can’t wait until school is out so I can dive into the Christmas spirit stress-free. Well, free-ER. 🙂

  5. Tina I read your blog all the time but hardly ever leave comments – just wanted to tell you that you rock for feeding Quinn the way you want to. Let the haters hate, I can’t imagine having readers comments on your every parenting decision, I questioned myself enough along the way and don’t have a blog. My son is almost two, we started with purees and moved to solids slowly – he’s a great little eater and loves his fruits and veggies. Rock on, momma!

    1. @Amanda:

Yes to this! Honestly starting solids at 6 mo is standard- I can not believe people would critize you for it??!! We started at 6 mo and like most babies my son loved everything. Have fun with it!!

      1. @another Amanda: I think the “hating” that they’re referring to is from when Tina posted this pic on Instagram. A few people commented saying they’re surprised she didn’t go the baby weaning route and what not ….

  6. Hi Tina! Your two kiddos are very cute together. It’s raining here in the Bay Area, so that’s a gloomy way to start the weekend. But I’m looking forward to getting my hair done and teaching three group fitness classes. Happy Friday!

  7. I quote Elf all year too!!! “Buddy the elf, what’s your favorite color?” I feel like we have so much in common haha

What kind of granola is that by the way?? It is most definitely the best snack ever.

    1. It’s actually a new gluten-free one from Chex. It’ll be available after the new year, so I’ll be sure to share details then. It’s deeeelicious!

  8. I am loving making baby food for my 7-month old twins! I am just starting combinations and they LOVE sweet potatoes, pumpkin and apples all mixed together. I’m so happy to give my girls organic, homemade baby food…ummm, while eat cold pizza over the sink. Ha.

  9. Question about the baby food machine: Are there lots of parts to clean? I made my own but I cooked them used a hand blender. Then froze them in ice cube trays. The hand blender was messy and not easy to clean.

  10. I love Elf qotes! 🙂 and Averies Cooks is oNE of my favorite baking blogs 🙂 I to am just enjoying the holiday season spending it with family and friends 🙂

  11. Christmas has come around so FAST this year! I don’t have many to buy for…n just my mum left but must be even harder for you guys to get your heads around it with Thanksgiving not long passed!

  12. I absolutely love JUNK headbands. I first read about them here on your blog, asked for one last Christmas and have loved it ever sense. Such an awesome headband-I love how thick they are and that you can tie them to fit your head. It never moves during my runs/strength training sessions. Just emailed my “list list” this morning, and shocker, more JUNK headbands were on it! 🙂

  13. Around our house I keep screaming, “Santa! I know him!”

I need to check out that book! My daughter is three weeks old today, and although she’s my second baby and you’d think I would have this baby thing down … Nope, I don’t! It’s a variation of a Greg Lemond quote, “It doesn’t get any easier, you just go faster!”

  14. Yogurt and granola is my go-to for breakfasts. I LOVE it. It satisfies my endless desire for something crunchy and fills me up since I use Greek yogurt and granola with extra protein. So good!

  15. I made my son’s baby food too! It is so rewarding and easy to be able to do that. Happy you are enjoying doing the same for Q! (I even did meats this way which was a gross process but happy i knew what he was getting) As a time saver (once he was eating more variety) I would use up the extra veggies i had from whatever i was making to make his and then froze them in batches. Tip if you weren’t aware… Freezing portions in ice cube trays make it easy to give a little variety when he is eating more. Just pop out a cube of this and a cube of that and defrost it or microwave it quickly and there ya go! He is adorable and those pics with murphy are so cute!

  16. Love, love, love the Babycook. Even when my little guy grew out of purees, I could still use it to make him more “big boy” foods. There are so many great resources online and in books for recipes and ideas. Enjoy every second!
