Hey, hey! Happy Friday!

Thanks for all of your well wishes on yesterday’s post. You guys are the best. Truthfully, I still feel like garbage, but I am better today than the day before (thanks to some serious steroids), so, hopefully, things will keep improving. Anyway, I haven’t done a What I’m Loving Lately post in awhile, so here is another edition! Enjoy!

Candy Corn and White Chocolate Softbatch Cookies. I haven’t actually made these cookies (yet!), but, wow, they look amazing. I just want to bite right into one. The stuff that Averie bakes is RIDICULOUS! If you’ve never checked out her blog, you really should. There are some incredible-looking recipes on it!

candy corn cookies.. I'm so making these, but only once a year!

DIY baby costumes. Some of these are genius, and Quinn is going to be one of them for Halloween! Any guesses which one?

Unimpressed pugs in costumes. Related: Murphy is going to be a frog this year for Halloween and he’s modeling his costume on MarthaStewart.com. He’s so fancy.

Psychics. I was recently offered a free reading over the phone through PsychicSource.com and it was really fun. The psychic I spoke with told me all sorts of crazy things. Here are some of them””we’ll see if they actually happen!

  • I asked her about my UC. She says my symptoms will calm down around the holidays. (I sure hope so!) She said the disease started because of something I ingested (she mentioned bad spinach or lettuce) and now my gut bacteria is out of whack. She also said a lot of my symptoms are related to stress. Obviously this woman is not a doctor, but I found it kind of interesting that she came up with this much info for probably not knowing all that much about UC. On the flipside, she said I shouldn’t go on Remicade and the answer to my health issues is much more simple. She said I should get a second opinion and a female doctor would ultimately help me.
  • The psychic said we’ll move to a new house in the next year. We definitely want to move (our house feels SO SMALL now), but we aren’t thinking about moving for a little while. We’ve started looking at houses, but I don’t think we’ll actually make any moves in the next year or so. (Building up on our current house was basically a no-go after we crunched the numbers and realized how much work it would take!)
  • The psychic said I “push myself too hard” and I need to “better pace myself.” Yes, true. I know I’m a freak. But, she said I’m a “go-getter,” and I will “never fail” when it comes to my career. Isn’t that nice of her to say?
  • She said there is another “soul” waiting for us if we want another child.

Window shopping on Target.com. I was randomly looking on Target.com yesterday (did you hear they have free shipping on EVERYTHING right now??), and I stumbled upon all sorts of fun goodies: Pug-opoly (for the pug obsessed), adorable rain boots (mine need to be replaced ASAP), and this sweater. What do you think? Mini shopping spree?

This video. It’s pretty much all I want in life.

Reebok CrossFit High Impact Bra

I went to Reebok HQ last week and did some shopping in their store. (Everything is 40% off!) I went there with my friend Kerrie, who needed new kicks, but I have more than enough workout gear, so I was just along for the ride. But, I stumbled upon a very Lululemon-esque sports bra and just had to try it on. I’m still in between sports bra sizes, so I figured why not. Well, to my surprise, it FIT SO WELL, and I lovvvvvve it! It’s super comfy, flattering, and it comes up high on the chest, so you don’t have crazy cleavage when you’re working out. (You ladies with big boobs know what I’m talking about!)

I thought this was interesting: 3 Weird Ways Birth Month Can Affect a Baby’s Health.

Healthy Decadence for One: Single Serving Breakfast and Dessert Recipes, a new e-cookbook that my friend Lauren recently published. Breakfast and dessert are my favorite meals of the day (yes, dessert counts as a meal), so I was pumped when she offered to send me a copy. Some deliciousness from inside: Cinnamon Raisin Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce, Carrot Cake Pancakes with Cream Cheese Glaze, Paleo Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie, Coffee[cup]cake, and Cheesy Chipotle Pumpkin Grits with Poached Egg. Yummmm! I can’t wait to try her recipes!

  1. william is going to be a pumpkin – classic first halloween outfit 🙂 🙂 partly because i have no time to get him a new one, i’m not creative, and my sister has the costume that i can borrow that both my niece and nephew has worn- hey it works! 🙂

  2. Baby halloween costumes are the best! My kids are 7, 5, and 3 and of course now they pick what they wear. Oldest will be a witch, middle Raspberry from Strawberry shortcake and little guy Jake from Jake and the neverland pirates. Halloween was much more fun for me when they were younger, because now we have lots of chaotic school activities that I’m not really wired for. Sorry you’re still feeling crappy. Feel better 🙂

  3. I totally believe in psychics. That is, when you go to a good one. Some are all phony and make it up but there’s no making it up when you actually have a good reading and things are said that can’t be explained. Or, things are said that seem so out there and then they happen. It’s like you want to believe, but with a grain of salt. I don’t know, I just think there is something to it all. I love the Long Island Medium, not just because I live near her, but because local people are on the show and I have heard from them that she is legit and what she said came true/really happened/can’t be explained otherwise.

  4. Those cookies have been tempting me too! Not sure if I am going to cave in yet, as I am enjoying eating the candy corn on its own, but I have been throwing them in ice cream, I love it when they go hard and crunchy! As for window shopping at Target, glad you said that, I enjoy that too 🙂

  5. I read my horoscope daily and it’s almost always right! I’ve never had a full psychic reading, but I did have my palm read once when I was in college. I still remember what the psychic predicted for my future and remain hopeful that some of the good stuff she saw in my future will happen soon… Most importantly, she told me that my life would be devoted to family and that I would be a loving mother. I’ve been through so much, trying to become a mom. Sometimes it’s hard to stay positive, due to the loss I’ve experienced. This palm reader was confident that I WILL have a baby of my own one day!

  6. Thanks for the Halloween link! It’s hard to find much time to get a costume with a newborn but I want to dress him up. I haven’t decided which one yet, but at least this is a start!!

  7. That bra looks great! Did you find it to be really “high impact”? I’ve always had a hard time fitting supportive enough sports bras…and now I’m 14 weeks pregnant and sooo uncomfortable in sports bras. Doubling up isn’t even working! And the cleavage is out of control!

  8. The scuba baby is so adorable. 🙂
My little one is going to be a kitty. If I have the energy, I might be an old-timey witch like I was a few years ago. Our beagle mix is always a pumpkin. I’m so excited for Halloween!

  9. Oh my gosh, that psychic reading was something! I’ve gone to a medium once before and she definitely said some things about my life that made me wonder. So weird … I don’t know if I believe it, but I don’t NOT believe it either. 🙂 Have a great weekend!

  10. I’m guessing Q will be a moose? I’m 13 days from my due date…my husband is hoping for a Halloween baby but being our first one I have a feeling I’ll go past my due date. Our dog will probably just wear his halloween collar all day…if I put anything else on him he becomes paralyzed and won’t move, lol.

I think psychics are fun but I can’t take them seriously. I saw one when I was in high school and she said I was very fertile and would have twins some day….what!? LOL Telling a 17 year old that was great birth control, hahaha. I would however do a reading with Theresa, the Long Island Medium, she seems so legit!

  11. Okay, I admit I want to try the psychic reading for fun! Is it really free and afterwards do they harass you to keep doing it and/or pay money?

  12. I made those exact candy corn cookies–they did not turn out as pretty. 🙁 The candy corn all melted, even though I took extra precaution like the recipe said. I added a little sea salt to the batter to combat the sweetness of the candy corn. The cookies still tasted pretty darn good, but rather chewy when I took them into work the next day because of the melted candy corn. I’d love to try them again, just not sure how to combat the melting.
And that bra looks like something I need for my growing chest (24 weeks preggers and still running/CrossFit)!

  13. I’m curious to hear if you’ll be taking her up on her advise to not start Remicade and to seek a second opinion from a female doctor.

  14. Go to Pia’s in Norwell for a real tarot card reason. She’s always been shockingly accurate for the most part.

  15. We went with a superhero theme for our costumes this year. I chose Wonder Woman, my 8 year old daughter picked Cat Woman, and my husband went as Thor. We had too much fun at our Halloween party last weekend!

    1. @Kristen: That’s what our theme (Super Heroes) this year is at the bar I work at ~ Jax’s Place. I’m going as Robin ~ they have cute tops with capes at the Halloween store. Got black leggings, and bought the “Robin” over-the-knee socks, the mask, and “POW” barrettes. HA!!! My Mom, who will be 80 in December is going to be Wonder Woman. She’s a hoot!! One of our customers who picked the theme, is Flash. Can’t wait to see everyone on Halloween night. 🙂

  16. I don’t believe in psychics of course, but many years ago one told my mom she would have 3 children. She only has one, me, but in the last 15 or so years she has adopted dogs and always has 3 at a time, and they are her whole world. I thought that was interesting.

  17. First off – yes to a mini shopping spree! And free shipping?! OMG! I bought stuff on Monday or Tuesday from Target.com and my first shipment came the very next day (it was free shipping too!).

My dog is going as an octopus – her vet has a Halloween Costume Contest every year and we went this morning for her shots and they loved her costume!

I LOVE single serve dessert recipes! Mug/bowlcakes are amazing and they help with cravings for sweet stuff and then you don’t have an entire cake hanging out.

  18. I went to a psychic locally. She told me I would marry my husband (I did) and that we would have 3 girls (we did). She also looked at photos that I brought upon her request and she told me some amazing things about the people in them. She knew who was alive and who had passed. It was a amazing!
My girls are being a cowgirl, cruella deville and mickey mouse this year..all homemade costumes.
My guess for Quinn is the moose??

  19. Those cookies are calling my name. Seriously. Soft. Candy Corn. White Chocolate.

I’ve never been to a psychic, but I think I’m ruined from the experience. When I was growing up one of my best friend’s moms loved psychics. Her life (the mom) was pretty frenzied, and she dated predictable men. But she put a lot of faith into her readings. Unfortunately, this meant she’d do rash things like buy a new house because she was told she would, or start dating a new guy too soon.

I think they’re fun and totally okay, as long as you don’t structure your life to be the reading. 🙂

  20. I’ve actually planned on making those candy corn cookies Sunday morning ahead of NFL and carving pumpkins. I found them a few weeks ago! I can’t wait!

Unfortunately, my husband and I can’t dress up Halloween night! And it’s totally my favorite non-Christmas holiday. But we will make sure to get our pup in one of her costumes. We’ll probably just recycle either her hot dog or her bumblebee costume since she doesn’t have any public outings to make! Heaven forbid someone see her in a costume she’s worn before. 😉

  21. I think Quinn will be the dinosaur or mummy!

I’m not into psychics. They’re interesting, but I don’t believe in them.

Gavin’s Halloween costume is a BIG surprise! I’ve seriously been counting down the days til Halloween!!! And I think Nitro (our weimaraner) is going to be a devil.

  22. My dog is going to be Dorothy from Wizard of Oz, as long as I can keep the hair on her lol. She was not impressed when I put the costume on a few weeks ago!

I will have to check out Target’s site. Love free shipping!

  23. How fun. Yes, I believe it them to point. My sister had a few parties where a local Psychic came to the house. She goes right into a different room and does a 30 mins or so reading. she writes everything down for you. As soon as you walk in , she starts writing down your aura.
She told my sister and I (who look nothing alike, she is adopted and we had never met her before) all about our father who had passed, told me I would meet my husband (which I did) and a few other details that she would never know about (issues with circle of friends, where I lived).

  24. Hey Tina, my name is Angela, and I love your blog! Two things: (okay maybe three..) First, I made the cookies a couple days ago and they’re fab! Beware the candy corn will spill out and burn (as stated in the directions) but they’re still mighty tasty! Second, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s in 2004 and have been on a lot of the same drugs that are prescribed to IBS/Colitis/RA patients, (and I’m a nurse.) I was on Remicade for awhile, was scared to death/excited to start it. It didn’t work out for me, BUT, I know of A LOT of patient’s that rave about it. Really, the only bad thing is the infusion time, i.e. length, (and of course, the IV.) However, once you have a couple infusions under your belt, the IV insertion will be nothing. The nurses who administered mine were mainly trained to provide chemotherapy medications, so they were super at starting IV’s, and were always upbeat and made the time go by fast. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. And as far as the psychic, I WISH I could blame the Crohn’s on something I ate! Ha-ha

  25. I grew up around psychics (mom’s good friends) and everything they have ever mentioned has come true at some point in time. They always told me to not live by and anticipate what they tell me, to let it naturally happen. 🙂

Also, completely pumped that Target has free shipping. ah-mazing!

  26. Don’t have costumes for me or my dogs. My husband actually thinks it’s ridiculous to dress dogs. I think it would be cute though. As for psychics…yes I’ve been to them and even a witch doctor when I was traveling in Ecuador. They are always super interesting. I never tale what they say serious but I find it entertaining. 🙂

  27. My husband once did a bunch of research about how psychics work. Yeah… If you are a good people reader, can ask some good questions, and make generalizations and gague reactions… Well, pretty much anyone can do it. 😉 There is definitely a skill to the show and being realistic!
