What I’m Loving Lately 65

Good morning and happy, happy, HAPPY Friday to you!

Since it’s Friday, it’s time for another edition of What I’m Loving Lately! Here we go”¦ here’s what I’m loving lately!

My Mother’s Day present – My very own metal chicken, who I obviously named Beyonce. <– still one of the best stories on the Internet. I saw that a huge box arrived at our house, but I didn’t open it, thinking it might be my Mother’s Day present. Well, while I was putting Quinn to bed, Mal set up Beyonce right outside his bedroom door, so I would see it as soon as I walked out. You should have seen my face when I saw a metal chicken staring back at me. I was SO EXCITED, but I didn’t know what to do. I really wanted to yell something ridiculous downstairs to Mal, but I had just put Quinn to bed, so I scooped up my new metal chicken, while smiling from ear-to-ear, and brought her downstairs to thank my husband. Beyonce is most definitely a welcomed addition to our family and everyone already loves her. Currently, she lives in our living room, but we’ll likely move her outside to enjoy the warm weather. (I honestly never thought a metal chicken would make me so happy!)

PB2 + coconut oil – Awesome idea from Nicole! As a way to limit PUFAs in my diet, she suggested mixing PB2 (powered peanut butter) with coconut oil to make peanut butter. Genius! (FYI: I bought both of these products from Amazon.)

Toddlers Are A**holes: It’s Not Your Fault – My sister-in-law sent Mal and me this book after hearing about some of the recent toddler shenanigans in our house. It’s absolutely hilarious and SPOT ON with how Quinn acts. It definitely puts things into perspective and helps us laugh about his totally normal toddler behavior.

No Gym No Problem Workout – Looks like a great at-home workout! Must try.

Purely Elizabeth Granola – Easily the best granola I have ever tasted. I bought it on a whim one morning when I needed breakfast in a bad way (I mixed it into Greek yogurt), and I’ve been obsessed with it ever since.

    I have been following you for years and have recently started up my own blog over in Zimbabwe – in its VERY primitive stages! I just wanted to say thank you so much of all the inspiration you have given me over the years – you are the reason I embarked on my health journey and why I started CrossFit nearly a year ago now!

  2. I love the helicopter article. I am a closet helicopter parent… I watch from afar and worry as I watch my 7-year old negotiate friendships. He has always struggled socially and I am stuck on what to do to help. But I don’t do it for him. He needs these skills. So I watch, I worry, and I also cry when he can’t see me. Because seeing your kid struggle at anything is just heartbreaking. Deep down I KNOW he won’t always have me to do the hard stuff for him, so I force myself to take a step back. But that doesn’t mean that my heart isn’t racing, that I’m not using all of my will power to stand in one spot and let him learn. And finally when it is over, when we are home snuggling, we can debrief. I can let him tell me about it and hear it from his perspective. Because I can’t see what he does in all of those situations. And most times, he gives the situation 2 thumbs up and moves on.

    I notice that you eat yogurt, do you eat it regularly, or is it more of a once in a while thing? Does it ever effect your IBD? I notice for myself that milk hurts my gut but Greek yogurt is OK. Do you experience that same thing?

    1. Dairy has never been an issue, which I am super thankful for. I live off Greek yogurt and cheese. I actually don’t drink much milk unless it’s in my coffee. Butter seems ok too.

  6. Wow crazy T map! Guess we’re doing good if our house near alewife cost over 100K less than the map values it now. At the same time tho I am very concerned about how the cost of living here in only the last couple years seems to be really catching up to NYC and SF. Not sure how long the middle class will be able to live near any public transit… Do you all feel this on the south shore? I hear it’s a little better down there. Also; cute chicken!

    1. Anywhere outside the city is less expensive, but parts of the South Shore are really expensive too. It just depends where and how far you want to live. SS is awesome. Everything you need is here. We’ll never leave!

  7. My love for PB2 runs deep. I hadn’t thought about mixing w coconut oil before!!! I use it in smoothies and sometimes I’ll mix it with more water than recommended and use it more as a drizzle for bread, pancakes, etc. Did you know there’s also CHOCOLATE PB2???? #gamechanger
