What I’m Loving Lately 59

Hi, friends!

It’s Friday and you know what that means: Time for another edition of What I’m Loving Lately! Here we go… here’s what I’m loving lately!

Wavy hair – It takes me forever to blow dry my hair, so lately I’m wearing it wavy to save time and sanity. I just spray in leave-in conditioner (to fight frizzies) followed Sally Hershberger Wave Spray, flip over my head, scrunch my hair to encourage more waves, and then let it air dry. Easy as that. Beachy waves in no time!

Head & Shoulders 2 in 1 Shampoo – Ok, I bet some of you are surprised by this one, but Head & Shoulders makes my hair SO SOFT, especially when I use it with Aussie Total Miracle Conditioner (it’s super affordable too). We originally bought H&S to help with Quinn’s cradle cap, but then both Mal and I started using it too. We’re on our third bottle now and we’re hooked!

Positive Discipline: 10 Tactics That Work (Spanking Not Included) – I’ve probably read this article 3 times now and asked Mal to read it too. We’re totally on board with this type of discipline, so we’re going to give some of these tactics a try!

New slippers – Remember when I mentioned how my brand new slippers ripped within a few weeks? Whomp whomp. Well, I bought some QUALITY ones from L.L.Bean the other day so it doesn’t happen again. 7-Minute HIIT Series from Grokker – The nice folks at Grokker set me up with a free 3-month trial, and I’m loving their 7-minute HIIT Series as a way to sneak in quickie workouts, even when Quinn isn’t napping!

Seven minutes might not seem like a long time, but these workouts are fast-paced and challenging. You’ll definitely feel like you worked hard in just a short amount of time. And since they’re only 7 minutes, there’s no excuse not to do them. In fact, Grokker even has a reminder option where an email is sent to your inbox 10 minutes prior to your workout (you schedule the date and time), so you can easily stick to your fitness goals.

Brooks Running Launch 3 in Myla Pink/Blue Lemonade Shoe
 – Ahhh, new running shoes! The best, right? The Launch 3 might just be my favorite new shoe! I’m a die-hard Glycerin girl, but since I’m working more on speed than distance lately, the Launch is the perfect shoe. It’s more lightweight, but supportive with a springy push-off. They’re like the best of both worlds when it comes to running shoes! And, more on this next week, I recently used the Brooks “Shoe Finder” to see which shoes would work best for me and it nailed my preferences with the Glycerin and Launch. Once you see the questions in the Shoe Finder, you’ll see why this was so cool!

The Coffee Shack – Our new favorite donut shop! And their iced coffee is pretty good too! Mal, Quinn, and I have been stopping in after Saturday CrossFit, and now it’s a family tradition we all look forward to!

CrossFit Versus CrossFit the Sport – Great analogy: “REGULAR CROSSFIT IS LIKE A RECREATIONAL HOCKEY TEAM. YOU PLAY IT OCCASIONALLY TO HAVE FUN AND KEEP FIT. NOBODY REALLY IDENTIFIED THEMSELVES AS A RECREATIONAL HOCKEY PLAYER. IT’S A HOBBY THAT YOU DO, NOT YOUR JOB OR IDENTITY.   1. I some share my workouts on social media. I feel like I often scroll through Instagram to get workout motivation. But, pretty much all my followers are into health and fitness, too. If I shared them on my personal Facebook, my friends and family might get annoyed 🙂

  2. Not every workout, but when I’m doing a new class or found a great HIIT I’ll share. I remember how bloggers shared every workout. It’s so interesting how healthy bloggers have transitioned away from that style of writing.

  3. I have separate social media accounts for my real life and my blog/business- I use this one to share workouts since those are usually the more interested audience. PS I made your Brussels, chickpea, and feta bowl last night- omg so good, cant wait to eat the leftovers for lunch!

  4. I’ve been sharing my workouts on Instagram via FitSnap. I wanted to start a habit that would make me feel more accountable for my fitness goals, and sharing them via Instagram has been really helpful in that regard.

  5. I do log most of my workouts on IG – I have an account specific to my meals and workouts. I actually like it because sometimes I look back at previous photos for meal inspiration! And the IG community is super supportive with my half marathon training!

    I need to check out those Brooks! I’m an Asics girl but I keep wanting to try Brooks

  6. I use Instagram to watch random workout videos or see my friends post their workouts for motivation or just to see into their lives a bit. But photos on Facebook of them standing on a treadmill, checking into the gym, or just writing a status update about how they did a 8-minute mile is only going to catch my attention if they followed up with “and fell off the treadmill” and “here’s a photo of me on the ground”. I don’t feel motivated by these posts at all, and usually hide these posts or unfollow them altogether.

  7. Two of my favorite things are on here – the slippers and cake by the ocean! Just a tip from my dad who has had the slippers for years – he crazy glued the little tie to keep it from coming undone. OCD much??

Just a heads up – if for some reason something does end up happening to your new slippers, LLBean is the BEST and they have a form you fill out on their website and print out a mailing label and mail them back to you they will mail you a new pair. I had a pair that I got in high school from my grandma (I am 25 now) and they were probably almost 10 years old, my dog had chewed on the laces when she was a puppy and they replace them for me! they didn’t even still have the exact same style but it’s really awesome that the company stands behind the quality of their products! I always buy things from them because of that. 🙂

  9. I have wavy hair and NEVER fight against it! It’s way too much energy to straighten it (actually I have no idea how much energy is required because I have never straightened it). Besides”¦ I find everyone oos and ahhs over the natural waves and I’m like, woo hoo! Less work for me!

  11. You may want to look up the toxins in head and shoulders, particularly if you are using them on Quinn! My husband used to use it and reading about what is in it was eye opening.

  12. Oh cheap slippers. I always fall for the low price tag! They are usually cozy, soft, warm, and perfect for about a month…then disaster strikes and they come apart or lose their soft lining. It’s about time for me to splurge on a better pair!

I have been watching the salad area at my local Walmart since you mentioned loving those elevATE salads….FINALLY….today I spotted one…yes…one…not sure if that is the only flavor our store carries (spinach..honey mustard dressing) but that was all they had today anyway.     We just moved into a new house and the ceramic tile is taking a toll on my feet / my knees are giving me issues from the impact. I think I’m going to check these slippers out like…now!

  15. I got those slippers for Christmas a few years ago, and I adore them. They are part of my Mr. Rogers routine when I get home from work. 🙂
    I do share my workouts on my blog, which I then share to Facebook. It gives me an accountability I don’t have otherwise.
