Wow. What a wonderful Wednesday it has been for me. I love school vacation week.
Workout
I was planning to take a rest day today since the CrossFit Open officially starts tonight (and I’m registered for it!), but our box’s WOD looked “easy,” so I decided to go. Boy, was I wrong about it.
WOD: “Best of Three”
This workout will be divided into three parts, a row, a run, and an AMRAP for Doubs. It does not matter if you choose to do the row or run to begin with, but the double Unders must be completed last.
- 3 X 500m Row; full recovery between each row (~4 minutes)
- 3 x 300m Run; full recovery between each run
- 5 Minute AMRAP Double Unders
Score = calories rowed on fastest row; time of fastest run (in seconds); total Doubs
The workout was only three 500m rows, three 300m runs, and five minutes of Double Unders, so it didn’t seem like it would be too tough, but I guess I really pushed myself today because I was spent by the end.
- Most calories burned on 500m row: 33
- Fastest 300m run: 53 seconds
- Total Double Unders in 5 minutes: 59
When I returned home from CrossFit, I was welcomed by the most amazing package (TWSS) on my front porch! My new camera! Hooray!! I can’t even explain how psyched I was to open this bad boy and get snapping away.

Lunch
Mal and I only had about 45 minutes to shower and make lunch before our next appointment of the day, so I threw together two smoothies for us to take with us.
Blueberry-Kale Smoothie
Ingredients:
- 1 cup blueberries
- 1/2 cup frozen chopped kale
- 1 6 oz container Chobani Apple Cinnamon Greek yogurt
- 1.5 cups almond milk
- 2 scoops of vanilla protein powder
- 2 tbsp ground flaxseed meal
- 1 cup ice
Directions: Add ingredients to a blender and mix until smooth.
Serves 2
I must say, I kind of rule at making smoothies. This one was awesome. It’s definitely another keeper.
With smoothies in hand, Mal and I headed to Elements to get massages. (FYI: Local peeps: Elements is offering 55-minute massages for just $49!)
Mal and I arrived early, so we relaxed in the seating area and played “Words with Friends” against each other. (I’m killing him by a good 75 points!)
My massage was really nice””mostly relaxing with a little deep tissue work on my upper back and shoulders. I also told my masseuse that my quads were sore (from all of those Pistols!), so he worked on them for a little bit. Eventually, though, he said: “I don’t want to torture you” because my quads were so tight, and he suggested using a heating pad on each leg for 15 minutes to loosen up my muscles. That’s my plan for later this evening. But, right now, I’m going to shovel some leftovers into my mouth and then get ready for dinner out with our friends!
I love today.

The photo of Murphy is hilarious, he is so cute! It feels so good, to get massages after a workout! By the way, because of you I researched Crossfit in NYC, and i found that the offer free beginners classes, I will give it a try next month, I am very excited, since I think it is a great workout from what you share on the blog!! I love fitness very much, so I hope to enjoy it!

Have you ever used fresh Kale in a smoothie or always frozen? I have some fresh I need to use up but have always been scared to use it in a smoothie. I have been to Elements massage once and loved it!
@Brittnie (A Joy Renewed): I always use fresh! You cant taste it at all. The fruit is sweet enough 🙂
@Brittnie (A Joy Renewed): I’ve used both, but I prefer the frozen since it’s already chopped up for you. Just throw and go!
@Tina: Actually they sell fresh kale washed and chopped and organic in most of the stores Shoprite, whole foods and BJ to name a few.

I was going to ask if you are registered. I haven’t registered… not sure if I’m going to. I still can’t RX any WODs, especially with my back injury. We are doing the WOD on Friday alltogether, so we’ll see. If I’m doing the WOD anyway I should probably just sign up…
@Laura: Yes! That was my same thinking. I only have two Rx-ed WODs under my belt so far, and I’m doing it! It’s gonna be fun! 🙂

I recently discovered frozen kale at the grocery store. Love it! So convenient to add to smoothies and a nice alternative to spinach, too.

@Stephanie @ The Travelling Tastebuds: I checked out the S100, but the reviews were just kind of lukewarm and the S95 was quite a bit cheaper. A lot of people said it was similar to the S90, which I LOVE, so I just bought it. So far so good! 🙂
I wonder how many people you have inspired to try cross fit 🙂 I gave it a go myself, but decided to stick with classes at my gym to save money. Every time I see your workouts I get jealous though!

I just love great days in general, made even greater when they’re right in the middle of the week and you NEED a nice pick-me-up or some motivation to get to the weekend action. Right??
My day was pretty great, too…busy at work, but got to enjoy lunch with my best friend, so that was nice. All in all, I’d say our days were HUMPTASTIC
Good to know we’re not the only ones that sit next to each other playing each other on words with friends. We can sometimes sit on the couch for an hour going back and forth. #losers

I love that first photo! I have a Canon s90! Do you notice a big difference between the two? I mainly use my rebel, but the s90 is so small and easy to take around! 🙂
Not too much. The S90 and S95 seem pretty much like the same camera to me! Both are awesome! 🙂
my area is also offering that special and i tried elements last week! i loved my massage but my therapist asked what the heck i did for a living because i was the most tense person he had ever rubbed. woops, i guess i should make more frequent trips!

Do you run in your lifting shoes or do you wear running shoes if you see the WOD involves running? I usually wear chucks when lifting, should I invest in minimal running shoes before trying crossfit?
I wear the New Balance Minimus, so I wear them for lifting and running, which works out great! 🙂
Did the WOD of 7 min of Burpees this morning. IT WAS INTENSE! Oh and don’t forget mine WOD was followed by a 1000m row for time. Good luck! For sure report how you do. I managed to do 64…which is nothing, but so hard!!!

I got a massage yesterday too! Nothing like a good massage. That smoothie looks delicious, I have yet to come up with the courage to try out a smoothie with veggies. I really want to though!
