Welcome Back to the Mess

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

The great thing about my job as a full-time blogger is that I make my own schedule. I start working by 7:00 AM, use my lunch break to exercise, and finish the work day around 4:00 PM to take the pug for a long walk. Yesterday, for example, I took the afternoon off to go out to lunch and then to the dog park with Mal and Murphy. It’s a pretty sweet gig.

The bad part about my job, however, is that if I don’t work, no one works at Carrots ”˜N’ Cake, which means fewer people read and traffic drops”” and it’s all my fault.

And when my desk looks like a bomb exploded on it, I’m the only one to blame and clean up the mess.

I wouldn’t trade this job for anything, but, needless to say, I have a lot of catching up to do today! 😯

Last Night’s Dinner

I spent a couple of hours working last night, so Mal took the reins on dinner. He found a recipe from Rachel Ray magazine for Chicken Salad with Yogurt-Ranch Dressing.

Mal served the chicken salad with toasted whole wheat pita triangles, and, my goodness, it was delicious! Just what I wanted for dinner”” something light and healthy, but also flavorful and satisfying. I used the pita triangles to scoop up the chicken salad. Mmm! So good!

This recipe is PERFECT for summer”” perhaps served over salad greens? I cannot wait for warm weather!

After dinner, I enjoyed a bowl of Cookies ”˜n Cream ice cream.

(See what happens when Mal does the grocery shopping! 😉 )

This morning, I woke up craving my favorite go-to breakfast: banana oats with chia seeds and Teddie peanut butter and a glass of iced coffee. Boring for the blog, but good for me!

  1. Thanks so much for writing about how you blog. I find it so interesting!

I love my job because I work in ag and it’s nice to feed people nutritious food! I dislike my job because ag is a lot of hard work & manual labor that no one wants to do these days!

Have a good day blogging 🙂

  2. I love my job because it is a 5 minute drive away and on the whole, I work with great colleagues and I laugh every single day with them.

I dislike it because it involves sitting at a computer for over 8 hours a day, it makes staying active a particular challenge and it does affect my health quite a lot I think.

  3. i love my job b/c i get to meet amazing people, use my imagination, and interact with an audience.

i dislike my job b/c of the constant negativity – rejection, criticism, and the general unpredictability of show biz.

  4. Hi just came across your blog today. I’m really diggin’ it!

I love my job because I get to work in the industry that I love and make a difference in kids lives.

I dislike my job because it’s only 8 hours a week! (I’m a full time student though, too, so I still keep busy) 🙂

  5. i love my job because it doesn’t feel like a job. i work at a running store so to be able to talk about running and deal with running-related products is just plain fun!
i don’t like my job if tons of customers come in at once and i have to juggle several shoe fittings, questions, the phone, sales etc. can be a bit of a whirlwind sometimes! as long as you are honest with people, and stay friendly, that helps.
your desk photo makes me laugh! i could not work with clutter!!!

  6. I love my job because I am challenged every day, NEVER get bored, and work for a great company with wonderful co-workers!

I dislike my job because it is never-ended, often stressful, long hours, and a long commute from home.

  7. I love my job because…Free samples! (I work at the JCPenney’s HQ)
I dislike my job because…Retail has a lot of non-glamourous sides….(I do a lot of cost negotiation stuff with suppliers…fun!) 🙁

  8. I love my job because my manager is pretty flexible and is the same with his direct reports. He doesn’t chain us to our desk, so if someone needs to leave early one day he is cool with it because he knows we’re responsible enough to get our stuff done either way.

I dislike my job because it’s not what I want to be doing the rest of my life, need to find the courage to shoot for my dream!

  9. I love my job because I HAVE a job, and I’m grateful for that. BUT I dislike my job because I feel under utilized, and un-challenged. I look forward to the economy picking up a bit so there are a few other jobs to apply for.
If Mal ever wants to give up his teaching job, he could go into food styling! That is QUITE the presentation!!!

  10. I love finding things to make chicken salad creamy without mayo! Looks great, I’ll have to give it a try.

I love my job because my coworkers are wonderful. I dislike my job because I commute for an hour each way on the T!

  11. I love my job because I have a job, I get to help people and make money to support my family’s active lifestyle. I dislike my job…well, because people can be nasty (esp today!!), I would rather be at the gym, working in my garden or at my daughter’s school. Oiy Vey!

  12. I love my job because I have a lot of flexibility in my schedule.

I hate my job because some days, like today, I am forced to do things for the Township that I dont personally approve of (see my twitter today).

  13. I love my job because it challenges me to use creativity and it keeps me on my toes!

I dislike my job because my long hours keep me from doing much else during the week. 🙁

  14. I love my job because I can wear comfortable clothes to work (sneakers today!) and I love history and that is what I am surrounded by all day. Sometimes I don’t like my job because it can be stressful – but I’ll take it!

  15. I love my job because I get to find information for people and I love information!

I hate my job because I work from 9-5:30 and there’s no flexibility when it comes to work hours according to my supervisors. Plus, while I don’t really live that far away, taking the Metro to it every day makes it seem like it. 🙁

  16. I love my job because I work a few awesome people and get a discount (gotta love retail)

I hate my job because – there are way too many things to list – mainly I sit all day and stare at a computer.

  17. Pingback: Sunshine Day
  18. Messy desk means clear mind….right?

I love my job because it is my passion and what I would do even if I wasn’t paid. I have worked (volunteered) since I was 13 to get this job!

  19. I love my job because I get to write, work from home and my boss is great.

I dislike my job because I don’t get to write what I’m passionate about (technical articles…no thank you) and it keeps me from fulfilling other life goals.

  20. I love my job because”¦ of the people and the freedom I have to do other things once I’m finished with my office duties.

I dislike my job because”¦ of the sometimes blatant ageism and sexism.

  21. I’m currently a student, so I love my ‘job’ because it involves learning!! And hate it because I’m not getting paid! 😉

My boyfriend shops the same as Mal.. but it’s kind of a nice treat every once in a while!!

  22. I would have to say the same thing that Kelly above me said. I am a student and my internship involves a lot of great learning (and networking) opportunities, but unfortunately the interns don’t get paid unless we go out to work an event (thats a plus, especially because events are the really fun part!)

  23. I dislike my job because I have lost faith in the big corporation I work for, feel like they are screwing over consumers and it is not a good fit for me. I have so much contempt towards my job, I put in my month’s notice today and am scared, excited, happy and nervous all in one!

I like my job b/c of the people I work with.

  24. I love my job because I work with talented people who inspire me and push me to be better.
I dislike my job because I am not a morning person and I would be much more productive with a 10-7 schedule than an 8-5 one!

  25. I teach:
I love my job because every day is different and I don’t have to sit in a cubicle all day.

I dislike my job when I have a pile of paperwork to do and no cubicle to do it quietly in.

  26. I love me job because it’s what I love to do- yoga. It’s something that changed my life and now I’m blessed to be able to bring it to the masses. 🙂

PS- don’t feel bad about your desk. Blogging’s not my job and it’s still as if a bomb exploded on it!

  27. i LOVE my job because its .5 miles from my house and i work with some reallly fun people.
I DISLIKE my job because its VERY high pressure and i work WAY to much!

  28. I love my job because for a young professional, it is challenging, interesting, dynamic and I work with some really great, young people (the average age of the urban area is 31).

On the flip-side, I dislike it because it can be overwhelming and stressful, particularly when there is no-one to really guide me when I run into trouble. I find myself getting tasked to figure out a lot of things (often that haven’t been done before) simply because no-one else knows how to really do it or has the expertise. It means I can put in far too many hours at work, and disrupts any sort of balance that I have!

  29. I like my job because I work for an awesome Dr who is very respectful to me, and cares a lot about his patients.

I dislike my job because some of the patients are rude, and non-compliant.

  30. I would love to a personal assistant to a writer/blogger – organizing projects make my heart sing! 😉

I love my job because I help secure resources for a major public university that needs the support.

I dislike my job because fundraising can be so defeating and you feel like a used-car salesman sometimes.
