Helloooo from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania! I’m having a blast so far and the Runner’s World Festival & Half hasn’t even officially started yet!

After a quick flight from Boston, I arrived safe and sound at the Philadelphia airport where I met Monica, Sarah, Brittany, and Janae, who I was especially excited to meet in person for the very first time. She’s as sweet and friendly as I expected!

The five of us hopped in van and, about an hour later, we arrived at our hotel for the weekend. I’m rooming with my favorite red-headed Mexican.

When we checked into the hotel, each of us was given a bag full of goodies from Runner’s World. Yay! I love the “Powered by Tuna” box! Yeehaw!

A short while later, our group (there’s 20 of us bloggers) boarded a (party) bus and drove to the Runner’s World (Rodale) offices for a welcome dinner and tour of the facilities by Bart Yasso.

Woohoo! Excited to be at Runner’s World!

Dinner was a catered barbeque with burgers, hot dogs, various toppings (mmm”¦ caramelized onions), and a couple of different salad options.

My plate””I swear there’s a cheeseburger under all of those greens!

And, of course, I left room for dessert!

After dinner, Bart took us for a tour of the Rodale offices.

Bart’s office was one of my favorite stops of the tour!

He told us that most of the bibs hanging on the walls and door are from him changing in his office right after a race.

I also enjoyed hearing some of the behind the scenes info about Runner’s World from Editor-in-Chief, David Willey.

He told us that the “bread and butter” of Runner’s World content focuses on four major topics: training, nutrition, injury prevention, and gear/shoes. And, each year, the magazine plans for specific topics in certain issues. For instance, the April issue always focuses on weight loss while the October issue is always centered around nutrition.

Random: Here’s a flat cardboard cat that I spotted in someone’s office. My mom and sister will get a kick out of this.

The evening ended with s’mores, conversation, and a ride back to the hotel.

  1. Oh man, I just received my issue of Runner’s World today! And I’m jealous of your goodie bag.

    I never say no to a s’more. Or a s’more flavored anything.

  2. What a neat thing to be a part of! I love seeing what’s in peoples swag bags. Jelous of your goodies and what a good time you are having. Good luck in the half!

  3. Looks like such a good time – geez I really should have gone this weekend. Oh well…I normally would choose a chocolate chip cookie but I am going to go with a cookie with a brownie baked in the center. I love making those, that way I don’t have to choose!

  4. Brownie all the way!!! I’ve never actually had a smore but saw a cool version made with raw grain free, vegan “cookies”, raw chocolate and coconut butter! Good luck with the first race!!!

  5. This looks like so much fun! I can’t wait to hear how the race(s) went. Also…just for fun…I’m sure you’ve already seen this but I had to forward on this 12 Pug Tips for a Stellar Halloween just in case you haven’t. It’s pretty darn funny/cute 🙂 mashable.com/2013/10/14/pug-halloween/

  6. What an awesome swag bag! And I would LOVE a treadmill work station! How cool! I think that’s more comfortable than just a standing desk too because I find my muscles get stiff when I’m standing still, but I could do a slow walk for ages!

  7. Ughhh I LOVEEEE David Willey. such a fan girl haha.. his article is always one of my favorites.. So cool seeing the inner workings of Runner’s World!

  8. Have fun this weekend! I live in the area and really hope you get to experience some of our cute towns and good restaurants! I know you’ll get a good view of the Steelstacks!

  9. What an awesome adventure you’re on! I have to admit, I’m pretty jealous – it would be so cool to see the Runner’s World Headquarters!

It’s a toss between a warm, gooey cookie or a warm, gooey brownie.

Anyway, enough about food! Good luck tomorrow!

  10. A treadmill work station? Um, genius! I interviewed at Runner’s World right after college and unfortunately didn’t get the job. So, I definitely have a little blogger envy ;-).

I’d really like to meet my blogging running friends, like you and Hungry Runner Girl!

    S’mores, hands down, every time.

  11. S’mores!! I haven’t had those all year as I usually save those for camping, but no camping this year = random S’more moments to make up for it 🙂 Good luck with the 1/2!

  12. How exciting!!! I live about 25 minutes from Bethlehem, and will be participating in the 10K tomorrow along with Kayla from Blondes Have More Run. Maybe if we’re lucky, we’ll run into you! 🙂

  13. I would LOVE to meet Bart Yasso and Kara Goucher. This tour looks awesome, I’m slightly jealous that you got to tour Runner’s World 🙂 So cool! And definitely brownie…warm, a la mode!

  14. I totally read that first line as “Hello from the Bathroom!” I am such a spazz. I hope you’re having a great time in BETHLEHEM… not in the bathroom 😛

  15. What’s in the powered by tuna box? It sounds kind of gross. I have never seen you eat tuna. Why would you love it?
