When I woke up at 4:45 this morning, it sure felt like I was waking up in the middle of the night! The time change is really messing with me. It gets easier, right? 😕

I woke up bright and early to run with Back on My Feet. The Father Bill’s Place team runs at 5:30 every morning on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, so I decided to commit to the Wednesday run with the occasional Monday or Friday run mixed in.

Every run starts with a big group circle where we all put our arms around each other and recite the Serenity Prayer together. This morning, we also did some quick introductions because there were a couple of new volunteers and wished a resident (of Father Bill’s Place) a happy birthday. Then, it was time to head over to the YMCA to get our run/walk on at the indoor track.

Last week, a lot of the residents walked on the track, but, today, many of them were running. I think they’re gearing up for the St. Patrick’s Day 5K in South Boston this weekend! I wish I was able to cheer them on, but I’ll be just be finishing the Quincy Half when the race starts in Southie. Next time!

Last Night’s Dinner

Spinach Artichoke Dip + pizza?!? Um, yes, please! :mrgreen:

Last night’s dinner combined both of these delicious entities into one: Spinach & Artichoke Pizza. It’s the best of both worlds, right?

This pizza tasted fabulous, but what I loved most was how easy it was to make. I’m all about the simple recipes!

Just combine all of the ingredients in a mixing bowl.

Spread it on a prepared pizza crust. (I used a Mama Mary’s Whole Wheat Pizza Crust, which was really crispy, almost cracker-like.)

Shake on some grated Parmesan.

And bake in the oven for about 12 minutes. Viola! Spinach & Artichoke Pizza!

This pizza definitely worked as dinner, but I think it would make an even better party appetizer. Perhaps for March Madness?

Breakfast

When I got home from running with BOMF, I whipped up a quick breakfast of egg whites mixed with leftover Arborio rice, spinach, mushrooms, and feta and a piece of whole wheat toast with butter on the side.

  1. I am SO not a morning person. It’s a real struggle for me to get up any earlier than 6AM. I can’t imagine how you get up to run that early. In the AM I’m all stiff and fuzzy headed! How do you do it?
    What I really like is a good run in the afternoon when i get home from work to de-stress and clear my head.

  2. I’m a morning person. I would rather seize the day and be productive. But I prefer to get up around 6am. For work I have to get up at 3:30am, which is rough but gives me a longer afternoon and evening to enjoy.

    I’m 100 percent a night owl. Getting up before 11 am is torture. And even when I wake up at 6 am I’m not tired until at least midnight. If I was self-employed, I’d work from 1 pm to 9 pm.

  4. I’m a morning person; however, during winter, I get affected by SAD and I just find that although I go to bed around 10:00-10:30pm, I have trouble waking up at my usual 6:00-6:30am. Instead, I’m sleeping in until 7:30-8:00am, and I really find that it ruins my day. Can’t wait for the sunshine to get back so I can spring out of bed like normal.

  5. I used to be a night owl. After having kids that had to change. Now I wake up between 5:30 and 6 so I can get dressed and then get the kids up and dressed for school. Kids go to bed at 8 and I’m in bed shortly after. 🙂 Grandma style. 🙂

  6. Definitely a morning person. I sometimes have to force myself to get out of my bed but as soon as I do, I’m ready to go. Regardless, I sleep past 8:00 am on very rare occasions! Seeing that I have early mornings almost every day…my bed time is 10pm. Sometimes earlier if I’m really struggling.

  7. You are awesome to wake up that early!! Most of the time I don’t even like waking up at 5 because I think about how a minute ago it was 4:59. 🙂 I’m a morning person but not that early!

  8. I can go either way. Sometimes, I love mornings and hop right out of bed. When I can get up anytime after 6 or 6:30 (which isn’t typical), I can do mornings. Lately, I’m feelin’ it more at night, but have to drag my butt out of bed in the morning.

  9. I am definitely a morning person. I am not a night owl at all! I was for a brief period of time in college, but I would rather be up with the sun! On weekdays, I go to bed around 9 or 9:30 and am up at 5. On the weekends, I am usually in bed by 10 and up by 6! I do best with eight full hours of sleep.

  10. I wish I was more of a morning person. My work shift is 2p – 10:30p so I rarely get to bed before midnight. But if I’m up around 8AM, I feel good. 🙂

  11. I am trying so hard to be a morning person! The last 2 weeks have gone well. I’ve been trying to go to bed at 10 and be up at 6 for exercise, breakfast, then work. I find that if I do go to sleep at 10, I can actually do it! 🙂

  12. I WANT to be more of a morning person than I am. I get up at 5:30am to drive to the gym near work, workout, shower, and then finally get to work each day. Coffee is a savior, that’s all I have to say!

  13. Although I am 21 years old, I go against the norm of people around my age and can definitely say I am a morning person! I go to bed around 9:30 pm every night (unless I am going out) and wake up around 7:00 am. I need at least 9 hours of sleep per night or I nod off the whole day during class!
    It’s honestly a bit annoying to have to get that amount of sleep per night, otherwise I dont function well 🙁

  14. I am definitely a morning person! I usually try to get in bed around 10pm and wake up between 6 and 6:30 on week days. On the weekends I typically wake up around 7:30 naturally and am fast asleep before midnight. Sadly, my bf is a night owl and has started calling my Nanaw (like Grandma) because of my early-to-bed-old-lady tendencies haha

  15. You felt like 4:45 was the middle of the night becaue 4:45 IS the middle of the night! As far as I’m concerned, it’s not even daytime until 6:30 at the very, very earliest. In the perfect world, I’d go to bed at 12:00 and wake up at 8:30. In the real world, I try to get to bed by 10:00 so that I can be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at 6:30 AM.

  16. I’m up at 5:30 on weekdays, and I TRY to get to bed at 9:00, but it usually ends up being 9:30 or 10:00. On the weekends, I don’t really have a schedule. I love waking up and exercising first thing. No matter how my day goes after that, at least it started well.

  17. It depends on my routine. Right, I get up early, so I’m a morning person. A few months ago, I was going to bed really late (like 2am), so I was a night person. It all depends. I perefer being a morning person, so I can get more stuff done earlier.

  18. I’m a weird one. I like to stay up late, but crave sleep early on. I hate waking up, but do well in the mornings. I go to bed at 11 and wake up for work at 5:30. I fight sleep like a 3 year old and struggle to wake up like a college student… haha!

  19. I am easily a night person. But i am also an 8 hour a night sleeper. This is hard to do when I wake up at 6 am. I try to be in bed by 10 but alot of nights its closer to 12 🙁 I just think no matter what I will never get used to it. I read an interesting article one about morning vs. night people. there was as tudy done on both and it was found that morning peoples energy levels and brain waves were pretty even all day where as night people had levels that were on an upward slope all day peaking at night time.

    I am more of a morning person. Right now I get up around 5:00-5:30 a.m. and go to bed between 9:00 – 9:30 p.m. However, ideally I would love to go to bed around 10:00/10:30 p.m. and get up around 7 a.m. I need about 9 hours of sleep when I’m running a lot!

  21. Holy moly, that pizza looks INCREDIBLE!!!!!!! I’m DEFINITELY a morning person, up at 5:30 on “yoga mornings” and 6:00ish on other days. Have a great rest of the day Tina.

  22. I’m very much a morning person. Staying up past 9:30pm is a big struggle. There was once a time when my husband and I were in bed by 7:30 and asleep by 8:30 every night unless we were with company.

  23. A little of both? I love the evening/night because my day is complete, but I LOVE mornings too…there is something about knowing that it is another fresh start, another day I’m alive and well. I also enjoy getting my day started, like a great breakfast and a little tea or coffee…okay, I think just by babbling I narrowed it down. MORNING it is for me!!:)

  24. I’m definitely a morning person. I love the freshness, brightness and quiet of a morning. It feels so new with lots of possibilities.

    I am a night person, which blows considerably seeing I work a desk job from 8 to 5 M-F. I lack in the sleep department big time and can’t wait to quit my job and persue something new that will better fit my lifestyle.

    Morning person, all the way. I’m up and at ’em at 6am even if I don’t have to be anywhere and am usually fading fast come 10pm. Great for morning productivity, bad for a social life 😉

  27. I used to be a night person but having to be at work by 7 a.m. every morning is slowly turning me into a morning person. I don’t like it though.

  28. I’m definitely a morning person…… I usually wake up at 6am and go to bed at 9pm, 10pm being the latest. My partner was actually the one that got me into this routine – his job required him to get up at 5:30am so I got used to hearing his alarm go off and waking up around the same time. I love it, I think it’s given me more energy to do more things during the day as opposed to waking up at 10am!
