When I woke up at 4:45 this morning, it sure felt like I was waking up in the middle of the night! The time change is really messing with me. It gets easier, right? 😕

I woke up bright and early to run with Back on My Feet. The Father Bill’s Place team runs at 5:30 every morning on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, so I decided to commit to the Wednesday run with the occasional Monday or Friday run mixed in.

Every run starts with a big group circle where we all put our arms around each other and recite the Serenity Prayer together. This morning, we also did some quick introductions because there were a couple of new volunteers and wished a resident (of Father Bill’s Place) a happy birthday. Then, it was time to head over to the YMCA to get our run/walk on at the indoor track.

Last week, a lot of the residents walked on the track, but, today, many of them were running. I think they’re gearing up for the St. Patrick’s Day 5K in South Boston this weekend! I wish I was able to cheer them on, but I’ll be just be finishing the Quincy Half when the race starts in Southie. Next time!

Last Night’s Dinner

Spinach Artichoke Dip + pizza?!? Um, yes, please! :mrgreen:

Last night’s dinner combined both of these delicious entities into one: Spinach & Artichoke Pizza. It’s the best of both worlds, right?

This pizza tasted fabulous, but what I loved most was how easy it was to make. I’m all about the simple recipes!

Just combine all of the ingredients in a mixing bowl.

Spread it on a prepared pizza crust. (I used a Mama Mary’s Whole Wheat Pizza Crust, which was really crispy, almost cracker-like.)

Shake on some grated Parmesan.

And bake in the oven for about 12 minutes. Viola! Spinach & Artichoke Pizza!

This pizza definitely worked as dinner, but I think it would make an even better party appetizer. Perhaps for March Madness?

Breakfast

When I got home from running with BOMF, I whipped up a quick breakfast of egg whites mixed with leftover Arborio rice, spinach, mushrooms, and feta and a piece of whole wheat toast with butter on the side.

And, of course, breakfast included a glass of iced coffee.

  1. I am definitely a morning person, by far! I am usually in bed by 10-10:30 and wake up btw 5:15-5:30 for a morning workout. I think 7 hours is the perfect amount of sleep for me, anything less and I wouldn’t make it through the day! Have a good one. 🙂

    I am definitely a morning person. I wake up at 5.30am naturally, get up at about 6am. I am normally falling asleep by 9.30pm though, which isn’t always great either, especially as my husband is a complete and utter night owl!

    I’m completely a morning person. I usually like to be in bed by around 9 and up at 6:30. I normally do 10 for bed though when I’m not having to get up 1-2x every night to feed the kiddo.

  4. Mmmm, pizza… Would it be wrong to have pizza for breakfast now??? I am a morning person; always have been. I get up between 4:30 and 5am weekdays and between 6a and 7a on weekends. I am a grandma, and try to get to bed by 10p the latest.

  5. I think its so awesome you’re involved with BOMF. It seems like such an incredible organization, and so giving of you to get up so early once a week for it!

    Spinach and artichoke has been my favorite combo lately! I made spinach and artichoke calzones a few weeks ago, and then last week I did spinach and artichoke stuffed lasagna bundles. They were SO good!

  6. I am a morning person! I get up at 6am Mon-Fri to work out. I go to bet between 10:30 and 11:00 which is too late if you ask me. Lately, I have been getting a little too much mental stimulation at night right before bed (annoyed is more like it). Oh and the pizza…that looks so good! Have a great day Tina!

  7. that’s my families FAVORITE crust! They only have it at one of the supermarkets we shop (the far one) but always make sure to have it in the freezer! I love the crispiness! That pizza sounds amazing!

  8. I’m totally a morning person! I love going to bed at 9 (yes, I am a baby!) if I can, and get up between 4:35 and 5:15am, depending on the day. On the weekends I try so hard to sleep in but I can’t! It’s like my body is programmed to get up early!

  9. I am a morning person for sure but this year, the time change is really whacking me out. I haven’t been able to get up before 7 and before I would get up sometimes as early at 4:30. I would just pop out of bed ready to start the day. Now, not so much. I hope my body adjusts soon!

    I use to be a night person but as a mom of 4 little ones and my crazy hectic schedule I much prefer mornings now. I enjoy the quietness and enjoying breakfast and coffee without any distractions. It is pure bliss, plus breakfast is my favorite meal of the day.

  11. That pizza looks so good, kind of like the famous Artichoke pizza in NY:-) The time change has kicked my butt this week and I can’t fall asleep at night so my early mornings definitely have been feeling like the middle of the night!

  12. Totally a morning person. I get up at 4:35 to run at 5 and I try to be in bed by 9. I just love the mornings.

  13. I am a recently converted morning person. I used to work at 5:30am every day, so when I started school full time and didn’t have to do that anymore, I started staying up reaaaly late and sleeping really late. I did that for a couple of years, but recently I realized that nothing good ever happens after 11pm. I just get restless and sucked into mindless internet world. So now I usually get in bed between 9 and 10, and I get up between 6 and 7, and it really has helped me be happier! I get so much more school work done and feel like my day is so long now. The only problem is that my friends often want to start their night at 9:30 and I’m like, um, I’ll be asleep by then!

  14. I’m a morning person, but the baby always seems to wake up me at least 5 minutes before my happy time to get up 🙂

  15. I love to sleep so I always thought of myself as a night person, but I’ve discovered I’m way more productive first thing in the morning! I work 730-430 now which means getting up at 530 and being in bed by 930. It’s an adjustment but works well with my productivity goals :).

  16. I am a night person but I so want to be a morning person! I get so much more done if I get up early, but it is tough for me to get going!

    I usually wake up around 6am and go to bed around 10-11pm Mon-Fri and on the weekends I get up around 7am and go to bed around midnight. I would love to get up at 4:30am each day and get my workout in, take my time showering, eating breakfast, etc.

  17. I’m totally a morning person. I don’t even need an alarm I just automatically wake up anywhere between 6 and 6:30 am. Sometimes it gets a little frustration though, I wish I could just sleep in — on weekends at least!

    That pizza is a great idea. We’re making homemade pizzas one night this week and that might be mine, maybe with some chicken!

  19. I’m definetely a morning person! I must be the coolest 22 year old as I’m in bed by 11 on weeknights and up at 6.30 am to workout before work! I hate rushing in the mornings so always ensure i can work out and leisurely enjoy breakfast before work- starts my day off on the right foot!

  20. I’m much more of a morning person than a night person. I like to go to bed around 10 during the week, 11 on the weekends (yes, I’m a grandma). I get up at 5:30 if I’m going to work out, otherwise I sleep until 7:15.

    Spinach Artichoke dip pizza?? Yum.

  21. That pizza looks so good! I never would think to put Spinach and Artichoke dip on pizza! I am going to have to try this. I love making my own pizzas!

    I used to be a night person but now I think I’m more of a morning person. I usually go to sleep around 10:00pm-10:30pm. I wake up at 5am for work.

  22. I am for sure a morning person!! I get so much done in the mornings, and I hate when I sleep in! I feel like my day is so rushed… I typically go to sleep around 10:30 and wake up at 6:30!

  23. That first 30 seconds when you first wake up early for a workout are far from pleasant, but once I am up and off to practice, I am SO glad that I am where I am. It is the greatest feeling to know you have already gotten you day started when so many are still in bed sleeping!

    and breakfast always tastes SO much better after a morning workout!

  24. I am definitely a morning person. I need to be to work by 7a and I’m usually pretty chipper.

    Lately I’ve been waking up in the middle of the night with really disturbing nightmares…meep!

  25. I am a morning person after many years of being a night owl. I now adore being the first one up and greeting the dawn. There is a silence and peace to the wee morning hours that I love to experience…no alarm needed! 🙂

  26. I’m definitely a morning person! I like to go to bed early, wake up early and get going on the day. I love the quietness and peacefulness of the morning. So nice!

    I’m a morning gal. Love getting my workout in before work – so the alarm goes off at 4:24am for those 5am workouts. But you better believe I’m in bed before 9pm Sun-Thurs night.

  28. I almost forgot — you should DEFINITELY do the Providence races. The Back On My Feet teams will be there! I know we have a runner from Rescue Mission who plans on doing the half. I was there for his first half-marathon in November and it was amazing seeing him and his co-residents cross that finish line.

Wow! thats strange…despite the non time change over here….i too was wide awake at 4am…i havent actually been to sleep yet!, i decided to just start a ‘new day’ starting with gym and shopping…then baking…now ive had breakfast,lunch and a snack…..i will be ready to drop wayyy before dinner time i think!

    I am a morning person. I especially have to work out in the morning. I also require a lot of sleep! I go to bed at 10pm and get up at 7am.

  31. I love that you’re running with BOMF. I really want to hear more about how the experience goes for you! There is a big BOMF presence in DC and I see the runners at a lot of the local races. It seems like such a cool organization.

    I am definitely, definitely, definitely a morning person. Even if I want to stay up late, I pass out before 10 pretty much every night.
