Until Next Year {Newport}

Hi, friends!

We’re home from Newport now and we had a wonderful time there. It was great spending time with family, and I especially love all of our traditions. They’re the best part of our trip, and I look forward to them so much.

On our final night in Newport, we enjoyed an early dinner at Midtown Oyster Bar. Mal and I actually first dined here when I was newly pregnant with Q-Man. If you look at my photos from that meal, you’ll notice a lack of alcohol on vacation! Ha! And right after that meal, I felt my first waves of morning sickness and starting craving yogurt and fresh fruit like it was my job. Oh, memories.

Anyway, dinner at Midtown Oyster was quite delicious, but what I loved most was the upstairs space where we sat. It was gorgeous– big and open with high ceilings, natural wood, and modern furnishings. It also wasn’t nearly as loud at the downstairs bar area, so we were able to talk at dinner, no problem.

The upstairs was also a great place to take a toddler since there was plenty to see– like fans and big fish on the walls! Quinn also entertained himself with a paper bag for a good 20 minutes. He loved putting things in it and then taking them out.

Quinn was also a fan of the box of crayons that our server gave him. Look at that concentration! He played with it for quite awhile!

Yesterday, we enjoyed a leisurely morning with Papi. (Mal’s sister headed home the night before.)

We ate breakfast at Gary’s Handy Lunch, a diner on Thames Street.

We took Quinn there last year and he was so tiny. This year, he almost an entire blueberry pancake with a fork. I can’t believe how grown up he’s getting!

I ordered scrambled egg whites with spinach and home fries. Mmm! I love diner breakfasts!

After breakfast, we walked around and explored Newport.

It was such a nice weekend. I’m already looking forward to next year, but I can’t believe we have to wait a whole 365 days!

  1. I’d LOVE to win! Not too original but I’d also love to go to Burlington Vermont. I’ve lived in New England all my life but never been to that area. I want to go to cheese shops and Ben and Jerry’s! Good thing I’m not lactose intolerant 🙂

  2. Looks lovely!

(Also, how is it that it is only 9am and now you’ve got me craving mussels and fries?! :))

I’m pretty sure we could replace most toys for kids with cardboard boxes and paper bags and they wouldn’t even notice. Nothing like a box or a bag to play with!

  3. I love family trips! This looks so fun. We take a family one to Deep Creek Lake, MD every year for a week with my dad’s family. There’s usually between 20-30 of us there and we bring our boat. My dad’s family has been doing it for almost 50 years!

  4. Ah so pretty! I definitely did NOT crave yogurt and fresh fruit when I was pregnant. Carbs and salt all the way baby!

Every year we vacation on Cape Cod and I love it! I look forward to it every summer!

  5. I’ve never taken annual vacations with my family..growing up we never went on trips, and now I just want to see something different every year. Maybe once I have my own family we’ll do something like this to keep it easy. Great pictures, and start the countdown to the next trip!

  6. Wait a minute……now that you mention it, am I noticing an absence of alcohol on this little vacation too…? Hmmmmmm! That would be exciting!

  7. It looks like y’all had a blast! We don’t have an annual trip yet, but we may make one to Key West because we are so close now. Going there next week for the first time and if it’s fun, we will definitely be back!

  8. We take a yearly vacation but it is never to the same spot. That is a cool tradition though, I am sure Quinn enjoyed it and will enjoy it every years. Those French fries look delicious. Thanks for sharing

  9. I like seeing when someone else goes to somewhere I like, but they go to completely different places than I would/have. I don’t think I could go to Newport and not spend some time on the cliff walk, or go to Brenton Point park to see if there were kite flyers!

  10. Live Newport! Living in CT my whole life, Newport is one of the nicest places here on the east coast! I just need to know – where did you get that adorable sharks mouth stroller?

  11. We’ve never taken yearly trips but that sure sounds nice! My husband and I are newlyweds, and we have taken annual weekend trips to New England towns- would love to win to get help planning a real vacay!
