Cape Cod Vacation: Toddler Favorites

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

Hey, hey! We’re back from our vacation to Cape Cod. We rented a house in Bourne with some friends for the week and had a wonderful time… well, minus “the plague” (aka stomach bug) that hit some of our group, but we made the best of it, especially with the kiddos in mind. That said, here are some of our favorite family moments with Quinn from our vacation!

Spending time at the beach. The house we rented was just steps from the ocean, so we spent a lot of time there.

Swimming and playing “Dragon Rider” in the ocean.

“Dragon Rider” is basically Mal or me giving Quinn a piggyback ride, running around and screaming, while the other person chases them. Quinn is the “dragon rider” while Mal and I are “dragon monsters.” It’s a lot of fun, and Qman cracks up laughing so hard! It’s easily his favorite game right now!

Visiting the Cape Cod Children’s Museum. Quinn loved the museum so much, we actually visited two different times during our stay on Cape Cod. It was great for toddlers, and he had an absolute blast!

Playing on the deck. The house had an amazing (kid-friendly, totally fenced in, no stairs) deck overlooking the ocean, so we spent a lot of time playing there and hanging out.

Eating Dada’s pancakes for breakfast. One morning, Mal made his famous cake-like pancakes in variety of flavors, including blueberry, strawberry, chocolate chip, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. They were incredible!

Boats and boats and more boats. Qman was obsessed with all of the boats at the nearby beach and couldn’t get enough of them.

Looking for hermit crabs!! Qman really liked the boats, but he LOVED looking for hermit crabs in the ocean. We spent a ton of time searching for them during our vacation!

He seriously thought they were SO COOL…

So we surprised him with a couple of windup crabs from the Children’s Museum gift shop, which, of course, made him so happy!

(They made Mal pretty happy, too!)

Exploring Falmouth. We took a couple of day trips to Falmouth (about 30 minutes away) and we loved exploring the downtown area. Highlights: Buying books at Eight Cousins Bookshop.

And sharing a huge chocolate croissant at Maison Villatte! 🙂

Playing at the playgrounds in Falmouth. This was definitely a favorite for all of us! We loved the Village Science Playground at Mullen-Hall School as well as the one at Goodwill Park (615 Palmer Ave). We all had a blast running, climbing, and exploring!

The end.

Question of the Day

Parents: What are your favorite activities to do with your kids/toddlers on Cape Cod?

  1. It looks like you guys had a lot of fun while you were on vacation. 4 of 5 years ago I went to a lake for vacation and we were just across the street from the water. It was so much fun. I was usually the first one up so I’d sneak out of the house and spend a few hours on the dock on my own enjoying the view and how quiet it was.

  2. Oh my goodness, all these pictures are so darn cute!!! What a darling family you have! I have never been to cape cod, nor do I have toddlers or kids- BUT on vacation I do love to lounge on the beach with a book. Have a wonderful week, and thank you for sharing this beautiful adventure! <3

  3. We took my son to the lake and he loved it. your vacation looks beautiful and sounds like a blast! Mal cracks me up, he looks like he enjoyed the monster game and crabs as much as Quinn.

  4. So happy you enjoyed your stay!
Funny story:I had a baby on Thursday and my best girl friend had my son with her over night. We live in Falmouth and walk to the Mullen hall playground all the time. She knows I’m a huge fan of your blog and texted me all excited that you were there and that our sons found some bird nests on top of the swings. We have a fellow bird enthusiast! Small world!
Goodwill park was recently renovated and also a favorite spot of ours!

  5. I go to Cape Cod every summer (Chatham) and we brought our 6 month old this past month. He loved the beach, and other than that we just brought him along with us to restaurants, shopping, etc. Next summer, he will be a toddler, so we will have to do more kid-oriented activities. We will definitely check out the Children’s Museum!

  6. Locally it’s either beaches or the community parks. Bbays community centers playground is well kept from trash though does need repair sooner rather than later.
I wish you could be enjoyed Imagination Station up in Plymouth as it was a children’s dreamland for the price. However Billy Bees in Kingston does just as well but for a little more price.
Next up most libraries have playground every weekend if not weekly. Giving toddlers and parents fun songs to sing and games to play. The Bourne Public library has one my LO goes to and she loves it.
Winter is a little more dismal as outside play is based on weather and if the town has put up skate rinks.

  7. Looks like you guys had a great time! I can’t believe eight cousins is still there! I grew up in Falmouth, and remember going there for the Harry Potter midnight book release parties Some of my favorite summer childhood memories include looking for hermit crabs and moon jellies (Megansett beach in Falmouth was always a great place to find them!)

  8. Such a lovely vacation! Makes me want to rent a house with friends and all our young kids, in some way would be better than being with family.

This is random, but do you know your body fat percentage? Your abs are so amazing!! Does one have to be really lean for them to show so much?

  9. We spend the whole summer on the Cape and in addition to the things you mentioned, I love Water Wizz. My son is not yet 2 and we brought him there twice and he loved it! There are plenty of things for young kids and if you are lucky enough to go with a babysitter, you can go on some rides yourself. It is in Wareham right next to Bourne. Also, renting bikes with a trailer attached for the little one and riding the Cape Cod Canal. And the splash pad in Mashpee in free and really really fun. There is also a playground too! And Edaville Railroad in Carver, MA is super fun because there is a whole Thomas the Tank theme area and a dinosaur area.
