Oh, the power of positive thinkingβΒ¦ it can do wonders for a crappy situation (pun intended).
Now that I’m feeling better, I realize just how important positive thinking was for getting me through the worst of my Colitis flare. I really tried to keep an optimistic outlook despite how terrible things got.
If I allowed my negative feelings to influence my thinking about the situation, I know I would have ended up reacting negatively to themββ you know, laying in bed crying like I did the other day. Instead of being poopy pants about it (again, pun intended), I decided that I wanted to feel as upbeat as possible (aka βfake it until youΒ make itβΒ). Being positive and (mostly) upbeat on the blog also helped triggered thoseΒ feelings.Β
With that said, today is going to be a good day!
Breakfast
Check out my breakfast this morning! A bit more colorful, huh? I made a fried egg, a piece of gluten-free toast with sunflower butter and banana slices, andΒ then poured myself someΒ Naked juice mixed with some water over ice. Delicious! I felt so good eating itββ like eating each bite made me a little bit healthier and stronger.
I’m taking a yoga class later this morning and then I’m visiting a special bakery with gluten-free goodies for a Cookie Friday treat!
Today is going to be a good day!
Question of the Day
Are you naturally an optimist or a pessimist?

A positive attitude can go a long way!! And how can you not smile when you see that adorable pug face?! Hope you have a great day. π
Great attitude Tina! What kind of gluten-free bread do you get? I’ve yet to start trying new GF items but should. I miss toast in the mornings!
Udi’s is by far the best gluten free bread. It is actually “squishy” when thawed and can be used to make a sandwich that isn’t toasted.@Amanda:
The flowers on your breakfast table are beautiful! Those in itself would make it a good day!
That’s a toughie — I’m a bit of both. I think my natural instinct is more towards pessimist, but when I check myself, I turn towards optimism.
I dont know if this is the bakery you were going to or not, but my mom has celiac’s and her favorite place to buy gluten-free products on the south shore is a bakery in Randolph called “All can eat foods” http://www.allcaneatbakery.com/
Happy (cookie) Friday!
I def used to be a pessimist, but that really get you know where…. when I started dating my now husband he always encouraged me to loo at the bright side and after a while I realized he was right. I was only torturing myself and those around me. Now, if there’s a ‘bad’ sitch, I always try to find at least one positive thing about it and you know what, that really, really helps.
I try to be an optimist, works better some days than others π Sorry to hear that you’ve having to nix that much from your diet, avoiding gluten is hard enough. But it’s good to hear that you’re feeling better, hope you continue on the road to recovery!
Hooray for positive thinking – I think optimism, and happiness, are choices we have to consciously make and actively follow. Way easier said than done, of course. I definitely have a cynical side that makes her presence known probably too often, but if I had to put myself in one camp, it’d be the optimist one. Glad you’re feeling a lil more pep in your step π
Tina, you’re so inspiring! It is so easy to become sad and demoralized when you’re not feeling well…and you’re doing the exact opposite. You’re totally right – positive thinking can be an amazing cure!
I’d say I’m a pretty optimistic person, but I do have the tendency to be a worrier. (Something lovely I inherited from my mom). I often try to anticipate what I’ll do if/when things go wrong. I’m getting better about suppressing this impulse — it’s not very productive, and it only lends to me getting stressed about things beyond my control. Now that I’ve made a conscious effort not to ‘indulge’ in worry, I’m much more positive!
I’m an optimist however if I let the negative thoughts in even a little I spiral quickly to the other side…. Practicing yoga, and remembering to breathe even during stressful times throughout my day help me manage it though!
Totally a pessimist. I always thought I was an optimist…. but I’m not. Wishful thinking, I guess. I’m off to start my own Cookie Friday with monster cookies!
I’m naturally an optimist, but truly everyone needs some reminding when the going gets tough.
Unfortunately, I tend to be a pessimist. I always tell myself that I need to look on the bright side of things and try to see the good in situations, but usually I just end up dwelling on the bad things that happen. I try to change that, but I guess that’s just the way I am and will always be!
But…here’s to you having a good day! π
I tend to be a bit of both. I’m more optimistic for others and tend to veer towards pessimism for things going on in my own life. It definitely helps to try to look on the bright side though. I’m glad you are in a good state of mind today!
There are a couple of gluten-free bakeries near me (http://barenakedbakery.com/ , http://www.besteverlowcarb.com/index.html) but I haven’t ventured in just yet. One of which is on my route to and from work. Now, whenever I pass it I think of you. I might have to hit it up to give it a try. π Have a great day and stay positive!
I go back and forth between the two all day, everyday. This morning: feeling pessimistic, trying to be optimistic. π
I used to be a MAJOR pessimist. It flares up now and then, but I’m getting much better at thinking more positively. Enjoy the yoga class and have a relaxing and good weekend!
I consider myself a realist. I know I need to be positive, but something the reality is, it sucks! lol.
I am SUCH a pessimest and I HATE it. It’s my least favorite thing about myself, for real. I try to turn it around but it’s really hard when it’s been engrained for so long.
On the good side, people who know me don’t think this so I must fake it well. I just wish I was the eternal optimist that never judges others. I love those kinds of people. They seriously make this world a better place.
i’m a natural pessimist but in the last 10 years i have had to learn to become an optimist. necessary in a career like mine, where all i hear is negativity!
i agree it is REALLY important to focus on the positive, but allowing yourself time to be frustrated, angry, and sad, is essential as well.
I am mostly an optimist, but there are times when I struggle with it.
Hope you find some good GF goodies today! π
Kim
Yay, Tina! I’m so glad that you’re so positive, and that you’re feeling better. But, you know it’s ok to be ‘poopy pants’ sometimes. We all understand and have been there (in one sense or another!). Can’t wait to see what yummy GF treats you find today! π
By the way, what brand of gluten-free bread do you buy?
Glad you are feeling better π I think I am naturally an optimist… I prefer working through a solution over a problem and generally surround myself with like-minded positive people. BUT… like anybody else… I have my fair share of down days. Just have to be patient and wait it out because I’ve seen better days… and I know those days will come ’round again when it’s time π
You probably know this already but if this thing continues (I hope it doesn’t!) it might be good to buy yourself a juicer! There’s nothing more easy on the stomach than cucumber-juice (maybe with some celery and apple added?) because all the fibers are missing! It’s really fun to juice, trust me!
It has to be a good day! Its a friday before a LONG HOLIDAY WEEKEND! HOORAY! Breakfast looks delish -I am just eating mine now… π
I am naturally a pessimist but I have trained myself to be an optimist π
the power of positive thinking is….powerful! π I am naturally an optimist, but worries sometimes get me down<–dumb!!
Hi Tina,
I finally spoke to my sister and wanted to tell you what she said about your issue. Unfortunately she said there is no cure for it, but it can be controlled using meds. I told her how you weren’t eating fiber as much and she said you should have fiber, just not tons of it. The fiber will help control the diarrhea and keep the poop together. On the other hand, too much fiber will work your intestines, so you want to balance it, not overdo it. We didn’t talk about your Gluten Free diet, but that’ll be next. So sorry you are going thru this.
What in the world is Naked Juice? Do you have to be naked to drink it?
I’m glad that you’re starting to feel better. π & keep that positive attitude up! I’m an optimist when it comes to other people, but a pessimist when it comes to myself. I feel like a lot of people are like that though.
So happy for you!! I totally believe in attracting positive energy – although I can think negatively about things too. But, the book and movie “The Secret” always helps me! Have you seen or read it? You need to! π You’ll feel so happy after.
I try to be an optimist, but my natural tendencies are to see the glass as not only half empty, but probably riddled with germs as well, lol!
I’m SO glad you’re feeling better! The yoga class will help, I’m sure. You may even ask the teacher about which poses can help with stomach discomfort. (And pit Murphy right on your tummy when you lie down; even better than a hot water bottle, lol!)
That’s great you’re starting to feel better! I’m an optimist most of the time, except when I get sick. Then I’m a total pessimist. It’s tough to be happy and positive when you’re feeling sad and crappy. Good for you for looking on the bright side!
I’m more of a chronic worrywart. I’m not sure if that falls under pessimistic.
I think I’m a pessimist but I wish I was an optimist. Life seems so much easier when you’re always thinking on the bright side!
I think I’m a pessimist but when talking with some people and I hear how they feel or think about certain things, I start to think that maybe I’m more optimistic than I think I am!
I learned to be an optimist.
I’m pretty optimistic, but I definitely have my melt down moments when I’m under a ton of stress!
Yay, so glad you’re feeling better! π Keep that positivity up!
Definitely an optimist! To the point of being annoying, or so I’m told. I mean, I can worry about things if necessary, but it’s always best to look towards the bright side of life.
I’m so lucky, my mom is a VERY optimistic person, and it rubbed off on me. Staying positive, seeing the good and knowing bad times end goes a LONG way to make life better! So glad you are on the mend Tina. (love the picture of Murphy today!) Keep taking care!!!
I try to stay positive! its usually a challenge for me though haha. Glad to hear that today IS a good day for you π
So happy you are starting to feel better!! That breakfast looks delicious!
I’m an optimist! So much energy is wasted on being negative.
How could you have a bad day with Murphy around?! π I think I’m naturally a pessimist, but I TRY to change those thoughts into positive ones!
just looking at your pretty flowers put a smile on my face!
…and Murphy. but that’s always.
Tina-
‘Faking it til you make it’ really does work to turn ones mood around! Having fresh flowers in the house at all times works pretty well too π You’re lucky you have a positive support system around you as well!
I am definitely an optomistic person – people always get mad at me for it actually! I always try to see the good insituations.
Glad to hear you are feeling better π
I have to *remind* myself to stay positive! Think Positive, Be Positive!
I’m naturally an optimist! I love looking on the bright side, and if things dont work out how I originally want it to I will always find something positive to take out of it!
Great thinking, Tina. I’ve been the same way since I’ve been in stomach pain/ chronic pains since December and wake up every morning thinking positive and happy….it’s all about thinking optimistic! You are doing great and I hope you had a great ‘belly’ day today! Love that breakfast; looks exactly like mine…I’ve become an egg-aholic along with smoothies with nut butters…they feel great on the belly in the summer heat! Yummy.
xo
Happy 4th and keep smiling, darling! You are doing great.
