Hi, friends!
I spent most of today at my grandmother’s house. We caught up over coffee and then had lunch with my mom, aunt, and uncle. Ever since my grandfather’s passing, I’m trying to make a better effort to see my family more often. Hopefully, these lunch dates become a regular occasion for us!
Lunch
My aunt and uncle stopped by Subway to buy sandwiches for lunch: turkey with veggies on whole wheat and tuna salad with veggies on whole wheat. I went with the turkey.
My lunch also included a ton (like half of the bag) of French Onion SunChips, which are my favorite type of chips. Ok, Doritos are my absolute favorite type of chip (I love fake, orange cheese), but French Onion SunChips are a close second.
My sweet tooth was inherited from this side of the family, so, not surprisingly, lunch concluded with a variety of desserts: chocolate chips cookies, chocolate macadamia cookies, and Caramel Pretzel Bars. Obviously, I needed to try them all, so I enjoyed one of each. Calories don’t count at Grammie’s house. Duh.
Snack
After visiting with my family for a few hours, I hit the road to drive home. By the time I pulled into our driveway, it was pretty late in the day and almost time for CrossFit, so I made myself a quick snack to hold off my hunger until dinnertime and fuel me through the workout. I had a container of Stonyfield lemon yogurt with fresh blueberries mixed in. Holy yum!
Workout
Today’s CrossFit workout was killer! It started with pull-ups and chin-ups using various grips (wide grip, moderate grip, close grip). We did as many as possible before resting for 10 seconds and moving onto the next exercise. (I used resistance bands for the majority of pull-ups and chin-ups.)
Strength:
Max Multi-grip Pull-ups/Chin-ups
– Wide Grip Pull-up Max Reps
Rest 10 seconds
– Moderate Grip Pull-up Max Reps
Rest 10 seconds
– Moderate Grip Chin-up Max Reps
Rest 10 seconds
– Close Grip Chin-up Max Reps
Rest 3 minutes and Repeat 1 more time
Doing this first part of the workout made the WOD really challenging because my arms were totally fatigued after doing so many pull-ups and chin-ups.
The WOD was insane.
WOD:
On the minute every minute for 12 minutes:
2 Wall-Climbs
6 Wallballs (20, 14)
It might look harmless, but Wall-Climbs are no joke. Check out this video:
Tough, right? Well, throw in 6 Wallballs after every two Wall-Climbs and a 60-second time limit and, oh, do it 12 times in a row with no rest. Insanity.
To make the WOD even more challenging, our coaches made us do 10 Burpees for every round of Wall-Climbs + Wallballs that we didn’t complete in 60-seconds. Apparently, I’m a big wuss because I owed 30 Burpees (of Shame) at the end.
Yowsahs. Hard workout. I’m going to be sore tomorrow!
Dinner
After CrossFit, I threw together a quick dinner: Trader Joe’s pork pot stickers on top of a big salad with black beans, roasted broccoli and cauliflower, balsamic vinegar, and truffle salt.
And for dessert: a dark chocolate Adora disk with a two three spoonfuls of White Chocolate Wonderful peanut butter. Mmm!
Off to relax with M & m!
Enjoy the evening, guys!

How does that guy scale the wall so quickly? It’s like two moves and he’s already up the wall and sliding back down!
I’ve definitely been trying to spend more time with my grandmother since my grandfather passed away. I never really remember her cooking per se, but she makes the best scrambled eggs and her baked goods! Oh my gosh! Her cherry cream pie is to die for. 🙂 When it comes to meals though, we like going out. She’s still got it for being 81!
Crossfit q..what is with all the females wearing knee high socks? Is this to protect shins during certain workouts, or just a fashion statement? Thanks!
@Tag: Probably both! I’m not sure. No one at my gym wears them. Sorry!
I notice that too Tag. All my girl-friends who are into crossfit wear them. Are they compression socks?
That pot sticker salad looks so good! I love Trader Joe’s but haven’t come across these there yet. Might have to be on the lookout next time!
Tina, I just wanted to share my condolences. I lost a grandparent recently and it’s been a difficult adjustment as it totally changes the family dynamic. You mentioned a few posts back about making every second count. I just wanted to say that I think you’re doing a great job at that. Your blog has really motivated me in several ways. This blog forces me to keep my healthy eating in check, keep exercise a priority, and realize how important it is to have a supportive partner and a strong social network. Your Grandpa is surely proud!
Aww, thanks! 🙂
I think I need to invest in some Adora disks… then I can truly justify my chocolate needs!
