I totally took a break from my camera/blogging while I was away. I’m usually a photo freak and snap pictures of everything, but, this time, I just lived life and enjoyed it without documenting every little thing. It was definitely a nice change of pace, but, I have to admit, I wish I took more photos that I actually did. (I didn’t even take a photo of the bride and groom! Isn’t that terrible? We were all having so much fun on the dance floor, I never even thought of my camera!) I have such a bad memory, so it’s nice to have pictures to remember those moments. From the photos that I did manage to take, here are some tidbits from the weekend!
The wedding was held at Roche Harbor on San Juan Island in Washington. We joked it was like āPlanes, Trains & AutomobilesāĀ since we traveled by taxi, plane, rental car, and ferry to get there.
All of the travel was well worth it though because Roche Harbor and the resort where we stayed were absolutely beautiful! It was such a gorgeous place for a wedding.
On Saturday morning, Mal and I woke up bright and early and starving for breakfast. (Our stomachs were on East coast time.) The resort had a cute cafĆĀ© right on the water, so we went there for breakfast. I ordered a breakfast scramble with eggs, lean ground beef, onions, spinach, mushrooms, and Parmesan with hash brown potatoes on the side. It was awesome, and I ate this same breakfast two different mornings on the island.
I spent the rest of Saturday morning at the spa whereĀ I enjoyed more than an hour-long manicure, which involved a salt scrub, paraffin treatment, hand and forearm massage, and manicure.Ā It was the longest, most amazing manicure I have ever experienced.
While my nails dried, I read a magazine and relaxed by the fire. It was a pretty stellar morning.
After my manicure, I stumbled upon this sign:
Spirits and hard cider tasting? THAT sounded like fun, so I mentioned it to Mal and his step-brother, Greg, and his wife, Jen. They were all game for it, so we grabbed a quick lunch and then walked to the distillery.
At the San Juan Island Distillery, we tasted three hard ciders, each with a different level of sweetness. The driest cider was my favoriteāāit was almost like a dry white wine.
We also tried some apple brandy, gin, and various lavender-, thimbleberry- and rose-infused liquors, which were neat to try and definitely interesting, but just not my thing. Even still, I thought it was really cool the distillery used flowers from the island in their recipes.
After the tasting, we headed home and got ourselves ready for the rehearsal dinner.
A lot of Mal’s extended family also attended, so I spent the evening catching up with them (and not snapping pics).
On Sunday morning, Mal and I woke up early to do a travel WOD. You can read all about it here!
After our workout, we met Greg and Jen and Mal’s French cousins, Julian and Claire, for breakfast at Friday Harbor.
This morning’s breakfast was not at all healthy, but, boy, was it delicious. I had an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich on a grilled croissant, shared a pumpkin muffin with frosting with Mal, and drank an iced decaf Americano with a squirt of pumpkin syrup in it. Yea, it was an awesome breakfast.
I really wanted one of āEric’s Amazing Butt Shrinking CookiesāĀ (they looked like a Seven Layer Bars, but in cookie form), but I decided to pass after my sugar-tastic breakfast. Obviously, I was going off the reservation with my ādiet,āĀ but I didn’t need to go totally crazy! Haha!
After breakfast, weĀ visited one of the island’s lighthouses.
The views were breathtaking!
Gangnam Style!
After exploring the island, we headed back to the resort to help my mother- and father-in-law get the room ready for the wedding reception later that evening.
Before we knew it, it was time to pretty ourselves for the wedding!
Gangnam Style! (It was a theme of the weekend!)
The wedding was a ton of fun! Mal and I spent almost the entire time dancing⦠and practicing our Clean & Jerks. At one point, the DJ played a song that Mal had trouble dancing to, so he said to me: āI can’t dance to this song, but I can Clean & Jerk to it!āĀ Haha! It cracked me up, so, of course, we turned it into a dance move. Hey, we’re dorks, but we have a lot of fun together!
All in all, it was a fabulous few days away! I’m still a little bummed I didn’t get any photos of the bride and groom. I guess we’ll just have to buy a few pics from their wedding photographer!

Thanks! It’s from Banana Republic.
I’m glad you had fun, and I love when I ditch the camera and just live in the moment! Even if you like looking back at pictures, it’s still nice to not worry about getting pictures for the blog.
Wow! So many gorgeous photos! The wedding location truly did look just beautiful. Glad you guys had such a great time!
Wow–everything about your getaway looks fantastic: beautiful surroundings, pampering, finding butt-shrinking cookies (that cracked me up), and a fun wedding! I’m now craving a weekend away!
You look stunning in your dress! It’s so festive and in-season. Glad you had a fun weekend. It’s good to step back and chill and do some things differently. Changing things up is healthy in itself!

What an awesome weekend! The manicure sounds heavenly – also where did you get the flats in the spa photo? I am looking for cute ones and yours are fantastic and look really comfy!!
Payless, but 2 or 3 years ago. Payless is the best for cheap-y, comfy flats!
Wow -that place is gorgeous! It’s officially going on my bucket list for places to visit asap!
I love your ombre sweatshirt- do you recall where you got it?

Wow, beautiful pictures and a lovely place for a wedding! Glad you enjoyed your non paleo splurges while you were away!! How is the tummy feeling after indulging a bit? Hopefully, you are still feeling pretty good.
Great! Better than it’s been in weeks! š
do you think it might be due to the fact that you’re eating more grains or carbs i guess in the form of bread, etc? glad to see you eating a fun group of foods on the trip, tina! i miss cookie friday!
@Katerina: It’s hard to tell, but probably not. I think the drugs finally kicked in! Eating a lot of sugar actually makes me feel pretty crappy, and I always feel exhausted after eating too much of it.
Absolutely love the dress!!!! You looked gorgeous! What a fun wedding. You and Mal really are such a fun couple. Too bad you weren’t down here in Texas, a double date with yall would be fantastic!
Tina: Love the dress. Looks like you are feeling better. Glad you and Mel had fun. I bet Murphy missed you both!!

Old Navy! š
Girlfriend, two things. You look gorgeous in that dress, my hubs and I have made dance moves out of crossfit moves (and daily household chores, changing the diaper, anyone?) and that wedding venue is AMAZING. Okay so I guess 3 things…forgive me š
