This Year’s Holiday Cards

We had quite the year this year. We moved into a new house, traveled a bunch (twice to the West coast with a toddler), and enjoyed a bunch of “firsts” as a family of four. (We count Murphy as part of the family!) Basically, we had a full year and we wanted to share and celebrate these moments with family and friends, so we included a few on our holiday cards this year.

Did you happen to notice that our cards are holiday ornaments too? How awesome is that?!

I recently partnered with Shutterfly to create our 2015 holiday cards, and I couldn’t be happier with them. I mean, a holiday card that our family and friends can hang on their Christmas tree (or elsewhere in their home as a holiday decoration)? So cool, right? I’m totally obsessed with this idea, and Shutterfly offers all kinds of unique and personalized cards to help you celebrate and share family updates during this special time of year.

It was so easy to create our cards using our favorite photos from the year on Shutterfly. There were so many fun and creative options to choose from, including a variety of trims, designs, and layouts as well as ornament cards and tri-fold cards that allow you to share even more of your favorite moments from the year.

And (I also really loved this), you can get everything you need to send your cards right from Shutterfly, including personalized return labels and postage. Basically, you can get everything you need in just one order, which makes getting your holiday cards in the mail that much easier.

Ok, let me tell you about our holiday cards! I am really excited about them this year because they’re ornaments, but also because I was able to include three different photos with text from the year, which gives them an extra personal meaning for us.

Front:

On the front of our holiday card is a photo from our annual trip to Newport, Rhode Island. Since 2004, Mal and I have taken a photo together on the lawn of Castle Hill Inn with the ocean in the background and now we include Quinn in our yearly tradition. As you probably remember, our weekend in Newport is one that we look forward to all year long, so it was an easy decision to use this photo for our holiday cards.

Back:

The back of our holiday card features two more special moments from our travels this year. On the left is a photo from the top of Black Butte. It was Quinn’s first hike up a mountain (well, technically, a butte), and he loved it… well, sort of. He initially loved looking around and taking in all the sights, but, by the time we got to the top, he was sound asleep. Haha! All of that fresh Oregon air must have relaxed him!

The photo on the right is from our recent trip to Burlington, Vermont, which was another first for our little family. Mal and I visited Burlington many times over the years, but it was Quinn’s first time. Burlington holds a special place in our hearts, so we wanted to make sure that we celebrated this experience together.

  1. Such a nice card! Do they have to have “yours truly Shutterfly” on the back? I would hope that we could replace that by something more personal?

    1. @eve: It was personalized at the top, right under the year, with a nice sentiment from the family. They turned out great!

I send out cards but not as many as I used to. I usually try for a week or two after Thanksgiving.

      1. @Susan:

hi susan – i see that the top is personalized, I was just wondering if you could take out the “yours truly, shutterfly” because there is another mention of shutterfly directly below it. I agree though, the card looks great!

  2. I love the holiday card & stamps! But there’s not picture of Murphy – I hope he doesn’t find out & get his feelings hurt! 😉

  3. I still have an entire stack of photos from LAST year!!! I’m horrible at this. I may just send out last year’s since there is no date and the kids look awesome in them 🙂

  4. CUTE cards! I already ordered our Christmas cards..I make them every year on VistaPrint. Can I just say how much I love that your whole family is in the card? I hate when my friends send a card of just their children. I mean, I love their kids, but I’m more interested in seeing a picture of my friend. 🙂

  5. Your cards are soooo sweet. This is our first Christmas with our little one, so it will be our fist time sending out family holiday cards. We had informal pictures taken and will be sending out cards next week. Eeeekkkk…I love the holidays!!!!

  6. I love holiday cards! I have one of my siblings take a picture of my husband, me, and our dog Ari, on Thanksgiving and then the cats get added later. I usually make and send them out the first week or two of December. I love editing pictures and making cards on Walgreens, but I love those adorable ornaments you got on Shutterfly! Your cards are awesome.

  7. We just got our holiday cards in the mail! We did a family photo on the front and a picture of our pup on the back..we are also a family of four (3 humans, 1 dog, haha).

My cards are ready to go but my husband made me promise not to send them until after Thanksgiving, haha.
