Third Trimester Recap: 37 Weeks

Only a few more weeks to go!

I’m feeling pretty good, but up until now, I really hadn’t felt pregnant in the uncomfortable way. Sure, I felt bigger and heavier during my CrossFit workouts, but the day-to-day stuff didn’t bother me at all. A lot of the time, I’d even forget that I was pregnant! Well, I definitely feel pregnant now, and I’m starting to experience some of the common aches and pains and general discomfort of the final weeks”¦

After a long walk with Murphy, my lower back usually feels tight.

My feet, ankles, and fingers are starting to get all puffy and swollen.

Putting on my sneakers instantly puts me out of breath. 

Shaving my legs takes some serious coordination and balance in the shower.

Sleeping feels like a workout since I roll from side-to-side all night long trying to get comfortable.

All of these things are minor, and I know they will resolve themselves once Baby Haupert arrives, but I figured some of the moms and moms-to-be might be able to relate. And, of course, I know all of these discomforts will be well worth it once Baby H. is finally here!

CRAVINGS

I am having a lot of the same cravings from previous weeks: fresh fruit, smoothies, juice, yogurt, ice cream, and egg sandwiches.

AVERSIONS

My appetite has been pretty normal lately, but I’m still eating ALLTHECARBS since my stomach is still queasy from lingering/never-ending morning sickness.

OTHER SYMPTOMS

Frequent urination: Same as before, but I’m a lot more thirsty, so I’m drinking more water than I usually do.

Morning sickness: Yup, still have it. Some nights are worse than others, but knowing that I’m in the homestretch makes it easier to deal with.

Indigestion: It comes and goes depending on what I eat, but it hasn’t been bad at all.

Sleep: I wake up non-stop throughout the night (frequent bathroom trips + tossing and turning to get comfortable), but I can usually fall right back to sleep.

Clear skin: Still looking great!

Colitis stuff: Better. I’m probably at about 90% with my symptoms.

Signs of labor: Some cramping, but other than that, nothing.

Weight gain: At my 38-week appointment yesterday, I had gained 38 pounds.

WORKOUTS

I’m still working out, but a whole lot less. Here is a recap of last week’s workouts: 37 weeks. As you can see, my workouts were a lot more low-key last week with just two CrossFit workouts, one at-home workout, and a bunch of long walks with Murphy. Most exercise just feels uncomfortable now””like it takes so much effort to do.

ADDITIONAL UPDATES

I’ve stopped wearing real pants.

Even my maternity jeans feel so tight and uncomfortable now, so I’ve been rocking yoga and workout pants pretty much non-stop for the last week or so. Real pants are so overrated.

I let out a grunt or groan almost every time I need to stand up.

My belly is just so big now, it definitely takes some extra effort to do certain standing up things, like getting out of bed, getting up off the couch, getting out of the car, picking up Murphy off the floor, standing up from sitting, pretty much any exercise at CrossFit, etc. Haha!

The painting in our house is finished. 

Mal and I wanted to freshen up the trim in the nursery and have our new doors painted as well as some ugly dark wood, so we hired a painter for these projects. He spent last weekend painting away and finished up yesterday, so now everything looks so nice. It is amazing what a fresh coat of paint will do!

I have Fred Flintstone feet and sausage fingers.

I’m retaining so much water. I feel puffy everywhere!

  1. I’ve heard from all my mom friends that you forget what it feels like to be pregnant so quickly after you’ve had the baby, so keep savoring these interesting moments 🙂 you look beautiful and I’m so pumped to see that little guy!

  2. The other day I was walking my dog (33 weeks pregnant) and I kept getting a lot of smiles from people. I thought it was because my dog is so cute (duh!) then I caught my reflection in the mirror. No doubt about it, the smiles were about my size and largely pregnant state!

  4. you look so great! hang in there. can’t believe you are so close. thanks for sharing your experiences with us! i’ve been so impressed by how long you’ve been able to continue crossfit throughout your pregnancy…especially given your morning sickness. it’s an inspiration for sure. i just love to seeing girls rocking the bump in the gym and at the yoga studio!

  5. You look awesome! Oh my … even with easy pregnancies, these last few weeks are tough because the tummy is growing SO much! I remember everything you described! I used to joke with my husband that I needed a pulley system installed on the ceiling above the bed to help me with all the tossing and turning at night! Otherwise, it’s like a 9-point turn just to get from your right side to your left side! hee, hee!

    You look great!
    Just a piece of advice for after you have your precious baby boy: be sure not to do any sit-ups, crunches, burpees or planks until your abdominal muscles are back together. I started training once I had my doctor’s clearance after having my son, but no one checks that your separated abs are back together and that can take longer than 6 weeks post-partum. If you start training core in any way when they are not back together, you risk making them separate more and that’s what happened to me. It’s called diastasis recti and soooooo many women have it after giving birth, but it goes undiagnosed and women start training really hard to get their pre-baby body back not knowing that they are making it worse. I worked out throughout my entire pregnancy and started training again as soon as my doctor said I could and I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight in no time. Yet I still had a tummy that stuck out even a year after I had my son and I couldn’t figure out why. I was FINALLY diagnosed with diastasis recti and unfortunately I didn’t have much time to work on rehabilitating it before I got pregnant with my second child. This pregnancy will make it worse and I will have to focus on fixing this post partum, but just wanted to caution you so you don’t make the same mistake I did and end up with the same problem.

  7. I am beyond excited and happy for you and Mal,will keep a prayer going that you have a easy delivery.First thing I do each day is log on to see how you’re doing.Hugs you and Mal both,and Murphy haha I just want to squeeze the stuffins out of him,he is just way too adorable.

    {funny story: because I did not want to be induced–and doc was fine with it b/c baby was fine–, at this point in my pregnancy I still had 4 weeks to go without me knowing it”¦.baby girl just did not want to come out! She finally did though-she was just so cozy in there. haha}

    So I really HOPE for your sake it’s soon!! P.s. you look great. And you will forget all the aches so soon after it’s crazy!

  9. Love your updates! What yoga pants do you wear? I am 25 weeks and my Lulus are uncomfortable so I bought some maternity yoga pants and they roll down.

    1. Just my usual ones… they’re not maternity or anything like that. I think they’re Reebok brand and seem to work. Much better than maternity jeans! 😄

  10. I love reading about your pregnancy. You look terrific and I am very excited for you. Enjoy every minute, it goes toooooooo fast. My boys are 9 and 10 now. Hard to remember when they were babies. I also gained about 40 pounds with each pregnancy and I was an older new mom than you! Good Luck on your delivery! Looking forward to reading about your birth story.

  11. You are so close to the end! I was working up until 37.5 weeks. Walking to the T in the dead of winter with snow on the sidewalk just about killed me. So glad that the weather is nicer for you!

  12. I just had my little guy may 17 at 39 weeks and 4 days. Im no vtissgutter but have had -an active pregnancy.,I took my last long walk Wed before and last pure barre class the Sunday before. While I have some Healing to do below I definitely think the workouts helped labor and mg recovery so I wanted to encourage you! you will be great. i would simply be chill now and save your energy for when baby hb is here! 😉

  13. I’m a couple days shy of 37 weeks, and I’ve seen a swift change in needing to go to the bathroom way more often! I took a one hour subway ride and fought between being thirsty and the fear of having to go to the bathroom!!! I’ve also been experiencing the swelling, which I believe is exasperated by the heat/humidity. Best wishes in your final weeks!
