Think Happy Thoughts

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Good morning, blog world!

I slept like a baby last night! I woke up feeling totally refreshed and ready to start the day. Actually, that is a big, fat lie! I woke up exhausted and skipped my workout. 😕 But, I’m trying to be positive this morning. The power of positive thinking can do wonders for a bad mood! And, to tell you the truth, I actually feel a little bit better just typing that I want to be positive this morning. So, I guess it really does work! 😀

This morning’s breakfast was a big bowl of oats (I finished off the canister) with sliced banana, ground flaxseed meal, and dried cherries on top. (I later added a heaping spoonful of Barney Butter. ;-))

I used my antique spoon to eat my oats this morning.

I also had a Grass + caffeine smoothie.

In case you’re wondering, the combo of iced coffee and vanilla soy milk blends really well with the wheat grass. The past couple of days, I’ve only been using a 1/2 of a packet of Amazing Grass in my smoothies, which cuts down on that “grassy” taste.

Groupon Deal

Bostonians: Groupon has a sweet spa deal today!!! I think I might buy one!

Question of the Day

As you know, I missed my morning workout, so I plan to exercise later in the day. I want to do something new and different– not necessarily a new activity, but perhaps a variation on an old workout. Any ideas?

What’s your favorite workout?

  1. I mix up my usual cardio or running intervals with spin classes, they’re a lot of fun and a great workout. They go by really fast.

Quick question, I often don’t see food bloggers address the artificial sweetener debate (splenda, equal etc) What are your thoughts on them? Do you use them or just agave? I’m trying to lose weight (10-15 lbs) and thought maybe b/c I use them to sweeten everything I eat (coffee, oatmeal, etc) maybe it’s hindering my weight loss. Thanks in advance if you have time to address it!! Any other food bloggers have an opinion on artificial sweeteners?? I work at Men’s Fitness magazine and we always debate things like this!!

  2. Zumba Dance Class! I love it! And you can make it as high impact or low impact as you want.
The music is awesome, the moves ar fun…it hardley feels like exercise, until you start to sweat by the second song!

  3. @Elle: I don’t use them. I try to stick to “real food” as much as possible, and I like agave nectar a lot, so I just stick with it. Hope this helps!

  4. Currently I would love to be doing anything physical because I have been completely out of it due to my sprained ankle! I am seriously craving a power yoga session and a nice hard run. It was awesome to meet you this past weekend, thanks for helping put together such an inspiring event. I actually bit the bullet and bought a domain name on Sunday and just started my own blog! It’s coming along but I have a ways to go still!

  5. I totally agree on the positive thinking. I am huge fan of running, up to 8 miles and training for my 1st half marathon in Feb. But recently found out that I have a bulging disc in C5 and C6 and had to put everything to a screeching halt. I got real depressed at first, but started to think positive and now back on track on the Elliptical trainer.

  6. Hi Elle- I recently cut out all artificial sweetners from my diet including sweetned yogurts, diet sodas, splenda in my oatmeal, etc. I have to say it is one of the most healthful and beneficial things I have done for my body in a while. Interestingly enough, I have a good friend who when she ingests splenda, tastes a chemical taste, not sweet. That really spoke to me. Angela had some good points on this topic here:

  7. Do a mini-tri just split your time in 3; so if you’d do an hour, do 20 minutes biking, 20 minutes running and 20 minutes rowing!

    just have FUN!
