Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

Hello! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Sorry for the delayed morning post. Mal and I spent all morning looking at apartments with our friends, Dave and Marie. But, before we looked at places to live, we enjoyed breakfast at our favorite diner: The Wheelhouse.

I love this place! (You can read one of my many reviews here.)

My morning began with a cup of coffee to which I added milk and a small squirt of maple syrup.

The maple syrup wasn’t the “real deal,” but it made for a yummy cup of coffee. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I ordered my “usual” breakfast: 2 eggs with homefries and raisin toast.

Best diner breakfast ever! ๐Ÿ˜€

I added a hearty serving of Tabasco sauce to my eggs and homefries. ๐Ÿ˜‰

After breakfast, it was time to look at apartments!

Marie, our friend and rental agent,ย was super organized. She prepared some “worksheets” for Mal and me to fill out while we looked at apartments. Each place we looked at included a photo along with a space for us to write our “Likes” and “Dislikes.” It was SO helpful!

We looked at 6 places this morning. Here are just some highlights of the good, the bad, and the ugly!

Mal and I definitely have a frontrunner in our search, but we still need to rent our place! We have more people coming by this afternoon to look at it. There’s been a TON of interest, but no one is sealing the deal. ๐Ÿ™

After apartment hunting, I made myself some lunch. I started with a salad topped with sliced almonds and balsamic vinegar.

Then a Sandwich Thin with peanut butter.

And, finally, a banana.

A little while later, I craved something sweet, so I tried a Cinch Chocolate Decadence Bar that the company sent me to test out. The bar did an okay job satisfying my chocolate craving, but it tasted really artificial and fake. ๐Ÿ˜•

Hitting the gym next!

See ya!

  1. That last kitchen is gorgeous!

The Wheelhouse diner looks great – I grew up in NJ, the land of diners, and have yet to find a good one up here in MA. I need to check Wheelhouse out.

Have fun at the gym – sounds like you have had a productive day already!

  2. Glad you are having a good Sat. I really wish I had some of that raisin toast. Mmmm! I hope one of the places works out and you can rent your place!

  3. I’ve never apartment hunted with a rental agent before! That seems so much nicer than randomly setting up times with landlords via Craigslist. I know she is a friend of yours, but do you have any idea what kind of fees a rental agent would ask for?

  4. The last kitchen looks amazing! I think you definitely need somewhere to bake some good cookies ๐Ÿ™‚ Good luck with your showings this afternoon, fingers crossed!

  5. Good luck apt hunting/renting! I always forget about raisin toast! My mom makes these great mini-sandwiches for showers and stuff…raisin bread with strawberry cream cheese in the middle. SO. YUM.

  6. Going out to breakfast is by far my favorite thing to do on a weekend. It’s so much cheaper than drinks + dinner and is a fun way to start the day. Hope you guys can find some renters so we can see what apartment you choose! I know it’s stressful, but you’ll get there eventually!

  7. What a good idea your friend had to print out pics of the places with space for likes and dislikes! I wish we thought of that when we went apartment hunting. They all start to blend together after a while. Definitely a fan of that last kitchen!

  8. Oh! I want raisin bread!! Maybe I’ll bake some tonight…
Good luck with the apartment hunting and renting! I missed the post where you said why you wanted to move… I think your place looks really nice.

  9. Oh man, that breakfast looks *yum*! I had an egg sandwich with Buffalo sauce (thanks the the idea, LOL) and avocado. It was delicious.

  10. Hi Tina, I know you said you were looking for more south shore area apartments but I saw a sign on a houseon Adams Street in Dorchester near cedar grove cemetary that said for rent and thought of you. It is right next to a park which would be nice for Murphy and is right near the trolley. If you want to check it out it is right across from the cemetary and is a white house. Good luck trying to rent your apartment too!

  11. Whenever I see cinnamon raisin toast on the menu I HAVE to order it! I’m salivating from behind my computer ๐Ÿ˜‰ Good luck with the house hunting!

  12. Haha my apartment is just as ghetto as what I’m guessing are the “ugly” in those pictures (i.e. super old oven…). Good luck with your search!

  13. I am an American and I live in Oz. The one thing that killed me going back to USA was the amount of corn syrup in EVERYTHING. It’s illegal in Oz to make anything with corn syrup, and I am thankful that finally there are products in america that are finally making products that don’t have it.

  14. The “likes vs. dislikes” paper is a great idea! It’s so much harder to remember details (and what they pair to) after you’ve seen lots of places… I learned that the hard way with my recent house-hunting!

  15. Those worksheets are genius! We could’ve used those when we were house hunting; I filled up a little notebook with comments that, by the time the day was done, made absolutely no sense. ๐Ÿ™‚ Best of luck with finding a place/new tenants!

  16. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the outside of that Diner–it’s so cute!

And looks like you guys have got some great options (and some not so great ones), but that’s what it’s about. I will keep my fingers crossed that you find renters soon!

  17. I love the fact that you eat home fries… at a diner! Not something you see often in the foodie blogosphere, but something I would do and have done. ๐Ÿ˜€ Must be a northeast thing. hehe
