Hi, friends! How’s your Thursday going so far?
I just got back from a glorious 90-minute run (9.67 miles), which was outside and actually semi-warm (upper 40s). Holy cow, it was amazing.
Seriously, it was so nice to not have to run through snow and slush while dealing with cold hands, frozen cheeks, and scary I’m-running-in-the-road conditions. Man, I’m glad Spring is finally here!
Look how much of the snow has melted. Geese = Spring!
Anyway, I wanted to give you guys a little update of what we’ve been up to over the past couple of days, so I created a TWO theme for this afternoon’s post. Enjoy!
TWO outdoor adventures we enjoyed”¦
— A long walk around the neighborhood while enjoying the beautiful weather. Quinn especially loved it. He was “Chatty Kathy” the entire time, expressing his delight with adorable baby babble.
— A trip to the park. The pug was psyched. He ran around sniffing and greeting every person and dog that came his way. The poor little guy was snowed in for months, so I was so happy to see him enjoying himself.
TWO workouts I did”¦
— A KFIT workout, which left my quads sore for days.
10 Deadlifts (#85)
10 Hang Power Cleans
10 Overhead Lunges <— wicked hard
20 Deadlifts (#65)
20 Hang Power Cleans
20 Back Squats
30 Deadlifts (#55)
30 Hang Power Cleans
30 Front Lunges
— An 11-mile treadmill workout, which included 9 Yassos. Whoa. I was exhausted by the end.
TWO delicious dinners we ate”¦
— Mal’s Chicken Ole with rice – so good!
— Chorizo-Potato Tacos With Black Bean Salsa – also very delicious and easy to make!
TWO new exciting things in Quinn’s world”¦
— Standing and walking all the time. This boy is going to walk soon. We spent so much time holding on to things and walking around the house yesterday and Tuesday. Quinn loves using the walker in the photo below. (He was “helping” me fold laundry.) Yesterday, he was pushing it with one hand while holding my hand at the same time. He’s getting quite daring!
— Black beans. He loves them so much!
TWO things I purchased”¦
— TWO more of these sports bras because I love them so much, especially for long distance running. This sports bra kept things in place and totally chafe-free during my 20-miler last week.
— Barnyard Dance. Quinn loves all of the Sandra Boynton books that we own, so I plan to keep buying them until we have them all.
TWO random tidbits”¦
— I made some chocolate chip coconut butter balls earlier in the week and ate them all in like 24 hours. The recipe is 1/2 cup melted Nikki’s vanilla cake batter coconut butter + 1/2 cup rolled oats + 1/2 tbsp honey + 1/4 cup chocolate chips + chia seeds. Mix together, roll into balls, and pop balls in the refrigerator for about 45 minutes. Recipe made 6 balls. FYI: You can save 15% on your Nikki’s order with code ‘spring15’ (deal good through tonight).
— We’re going to an open house on Sunday!
Question of the Day
Tell me TWO fun things from your week so far!
Ok I went on two blind dates this week. Two different nights!
How’d they go??
I thought last nights went well. Haven’t heard from him yet.
The other won’t work out.
just curious why Quinn is still riding in his car seat in the stroller. I know you’ve said you haven’t tried him in just the strolled but is there a reason behind it? You say he’s about to walk soon; I’d imagine he’s big enough to ride upfront looking at all the sights.
The Key Fit stroller only fits with the car seat.
@Tina: Enjoy it while he fits!! My son outgrew his keyfit carseat before he was 8 months old 🙁 He’s all torso and his head was all the way at the top.
I miss it! He’s 20 months now and he really preferred walks when he would see ME.
@Tina:
I assumed you also had the jogging stroller – sorry about that
Do you still like your jogging stroller?
Yes, love it! 😄 (I just haven’t had much of a chance to use it because of our epic winter and 8 feet of snow.)
1. I did my first runcommute of the year yesterday! I was way overdressed so I was exhausted and dehydrated by the end, but it felt amazing to be running home!
2. I woke up for a 6AM gym class that was awesome!. This year I’ve been on the “no excuse” bandwagon, and haven’t skipped any workouts in my training schedule yet! If I have to miss one, I’ll replace it with another day or time, and today I had to go before work. I actually love working out in the morning, so it felt great to get my workout in before the sun came up!
We especially love Hippos Go Beserk and Angry duck, happy Hippo …
1. My 5 month old is becoming much more vocal and feeling better after his 2nd ear infection in 3 weeks and 2. My husband just found out that he’s starting a new job in 2 weeks.
Hi Tina – I noticed you said that Quinn loves all things Sandra Boynton. I have this CD for my 2 Year Old and she loves it. We listen to it daily. It’s called Philadelphia Chickens, and the songs are based off of Sandra Boynton Books, and sung by the Bacon Brothers band. I cannot stand kitchy kids music, and I actually really really loves this CD! They also have one called Blue Moo which is pretty good too.

Funnnn! We need that! Thanks for the link! 😄
I am so glad to see the snow is melting there! I’m going to Boston in mid-April for a conference I plan, and I was so scared you all would still be covered under several feet of snow!
Those balls look so good! Two fun things from my week so far were passing my training certification. All my studying paid off! Plus the sunshine making it’s way back to Austin. 🙂
Ummmmmm… Speed work that DIDN’T suck (who knew?) and launching a new website at work!
Hmm two fun things from this week…
1. Attending a fitness/networking event put on by a website that I write for on the side.
2. Trying out my new Flip Belt. I have been meaning to get one for so long and finally bit the bullet!
I want those chorizo tacos! yum!
They were the bomb. I highly recommend them! 🙂
I went out for my anniversary dinner last night & I am doing a nutrition talk at a local running club tonight. Fun week 🙂
Happy anniversary! 🙂
Hi Tina
I am also running the marathon! EEK!
Question, when you do your Yasso are you jogging or running in-between? The rain might force me on a treadmill today and might do a Yasso run. Thank you!
Cara
I guess I was doing a slow run? I set the treadmill to 6.3 to recover in between each one.
Speaking of running, I am hoping tomorrow will be good weather for outdoor track practice tomorrow, on my wish list for my birthday this is is also coconut butter. You’ve just inspired me to add it to my ever growing list. 🙂
That Quinn is so precious!
2 fun things: I made gluten-free banana chocolate chip muffins and got to play with my friend’s adorable little baby!
Mitch slept for 12.5 hrs last night and I got a great nights sleep, too!
Are you guys planning to move??
That chicken ole looks great! Two fun things from my week so far are making an offer on a house (fingers crossed!) and ice cream! 🙂
Exciting! Good luck!
I’m happy the snow is pretty much gone here in PA. Every time I read those NC or Cali bloggers, I think our weather sucks, but we got nothing on New England. I’m not sure I could take it haha!
So glad the snow is finally starting to melt! 2 things for me are the arrival of our girl scout cookies and getting a little bit of outside time in the sun!
The sun is shining! (we had that walker)
It’s like 65 degrees in NYC today.. you inspired me to get my butt up and go to the gym.. going at 5 as soon as work ends. 🙂
THat is one cute baby man! He’s just adorable.
Stomp your feet clap your hands everybody’s ready for a barnyard dance! I used to read that book to my baby brother every night….he is now 21! 🙂
Where is your headband from in the first pic? I love it! That totally says “spring running!”
It’s from Junk! 😄
It is a cute headband…you look especially pretty in that pic with that peach/coral top on.
2 fun things from this week: I finished my 30th day of running every day for a month (lost 15lbs!) and had homemade shrimp quesadillas and pomegranate margaritas last night to celebrate. Also proud to say I went for another run today!
Nice job!!
I treated myself to an acai bowl yesterday and new workout gear at Athleta after a painful dry needling session. Love you top in the first pic!
I just can’t even fathom the fact that there is even snow on the ground there!!! I would just cry. Everyday. But, are you getting SO EXCITED for the boston marathon?!!!!! I’m going to live vicariously through you!!
Your workouts have been SO killer lately! And a walk in the park with a babbling baby sounds lovely. Two fun things from the past two days? Teaching full group fitness classes and getting my hair braided! Happy Thursday!
did you do overhead lunges with 85lbs?!
Yes, it was wicked hard.
Are you house hunting?!
ooooh excited for your open house!! Hmmm two fun things… we went grocery shopping at aldi for the first time (so cheap!) and got ice cream for dessert tonight. yessss
I went for two runs outside!! It was amazing!!!
How on earth did you get your dog to not run away from you without a leash? I guess I probably just haven’t trained my dogs properly, but they go bonkers when we go for walks – even though they are on a leash! I’m so jealous, LOL.
Fun things from my week – binge-watching Empire and playing a joke on a coworker. 🙂
Treats! Lots of treats. Pugs are highly motivated by food! 😄
Made the oat balls recipe tonight – two thumbs up! Thanks for sharing 🙂 I’m gonna try ’em with the Nikki’s macadamia nut flavor next.
So glad you liked them! 😄
That high chair you have looks amazing. We need something like it for camping. What kind is it? Also, I can recite the Barnyard Dance to you and I’m sure you can recite some others! The Bellybutton Book is our favorite.
It’s the Chicco 360 Hook On. It’s awesome!
Awwwww look at that smile!!
JFYI it’s “Chatty Cathy” 🙂 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chatty_Cathy
Two fun things from my week are 1)My volleyball team had it’s first game last night which we didn’t win but involved copious amounts of beer and I had some good hits so I felt good! and 2) I’m running my first 10K tomorrow and that’s a HUGE accomplishment for me – someone who never ran more than a mile prior to two years ago!
Two fun things from my week:
1) Movie date with my husband yesterday! That’s definitely number one!!
2) Taking baby to the park and putting him in the swing the other day: hearing/watching him laugh and laugh – he loved it! 🙂
I made the coconut butter balls and ther are my new favorite treat! You should write them up as a recipe for your site. The only change I made was to toast the oats in a bit of butter before adding them. They give a nice crunch along with the chia seeds!
