The Last Hurrah

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

I totally took advantage of my last day in New York City.

My day included cookies from Levain Bakery on the Upper West Side.

I received so many recommendations for this place, I just had to go.

Levain Bakery offers four different types of cookies, so I ended up ordering the Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie and the Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Cookie to share with my husband and our friends, Matt and Kristin.

Btw, I love the owners’ story for creating these cookies!

After grabbing a couple of cookies to go, Mal and I headed to our friends’ apartment where we enjoyed a cocktail hour and broke open a bottle of champagne to share.

Nice job, Matt! 😉

Then, we went to dinner at Galanga in the West Village.

To start, we ordered a round of drinks and a couple of appetizers for the table, including Jeeb Dumplings, which were made with steamed chicken, prawn, and finely cubed water chestnuts wrapped in wonton pastry and served with a soy sauce.

And the Duck Basil Spring Rolls, which were made with roasted duck tossed with house basil sauce rolled in spring roll skin and accompanied with pineapple sauce. Both apps were excellent!

For my entree, I ordered the Drunken Noodles, which were Thai street style hot and spicy wide rice noodles with chili pepper, bell pepper, Chinese broccoli, and basil. It was amazing! I was so full, but I could not stopping eating it!!

M & T + K & M!

After dinner, we headed across the stress to a Belgium beer bar.

There, we ordered another round of drinks.

And we broke into the (weighty) Levain Bakery cookies.

These cookies are no joke!! They’re big and thick with a crunchy outside and a soft, moist inside. Basically, they’re the most perfect cookie ever. I want them for every Cookie Friday!

Mal + Matt! 😀

Mal and I are catching a super early train back to Beantown in the morning. I’m sad for my New York City adventures to end, but I miss my dog SO MUCH! I can’t wait to see his adorable face tomorrow.

Gooooood night!

P.S. A big congrats to Kath who passed her RD exam this afternoon!!!

  1. Anyone who *doesn’t* make the most of their time in NYC ought to be thrown in jail! I’ve been there three times (it’s hard to visit when you live in Australia…) and each time has been a whirlwind of eating and gourmet-food-shopping and PURE HAPPINESS. Thank you for sharing your visit 🙂

  2. Those duck spring rolls and the drunken noodles sound amazing. Everything about your trip looked like so much fun. I’m going to have to go to NYC to get some of those cookies and hopefully have as much fun as you did on your trip.

  3. Those cookies look devine! Looks like you had a great time, but it’s always nice to come home especially when you have a little pup waiting for you! 🙂

  4. What a great trip you had! I have been wanting to go to NYC for a long time now. I think Levain Bakery is a must stop for me when I finally make it there. Love you blog, Tina!

  5. Everything in this post looks delicious! Those cookies look like muffies. And those drunken noodles look like dinner! 😀

  6. I live in NYC and tried looking up the thai restaurant and hit the link (it looks delicious) but it takes me to a restaurant in florida….

  7. please clarify the name & location of the restaurant. the link takes me to a florida location & when i check yelp, there are two with the name galanga in them. I’m inNYC and I’d love to try it, just not sure how to find it!

  8. forgot to say, that the two listed in Yelp don’t exactly match the name you gave. I’m confused!!

  9. Love those cookies! My friend goes to school at NYU and sometimes sends them to me! They are massive and delicious!

  10. I totally saw Levain Bakery on Throw Down with Bobby Flay! Levain won 😉 I need to get over to the west side sometime to try one. Glad you had a great stay in the city!

  11. Levain cookies are my favorite!! I crave them all the time, too bad I live a thousand miles away…

Too funny, I discovered Vol de Nuit (the bar you went to) when I was in NY last month!! It’s such a cool place and I love that they only have beer and wine. Did you enjoy it? We don’t have many places like that in Miami, so I got excited when I saw it on your post again!

  12. I saw the Levain Bakery women on an old episode of Throwdown with Bobby Flay. I don’t remember who won, but they really do have such a cool story.

  13. I have been dying to try Levain for soooo long!! Being on the UWS it’s just never ever “on my way” anywhere, and I’ve been hesitant to trek all the way up there for a COOKIE… although who am I kidding?! They look amazing. I need to get myself there. I consider this a mission in life.
Enjoy being home with the pup! 🙂

  14. those cookies look so good! Love the pic of you with the cookie bag, lol!

Glad you had such a great itme in NYC, but I know you do miss Murphy! I know he will be so excited to see u!

  15. Glad you had an awesome time. I need to venture out to other places the next time I go up. The bf and I always stay down in the East Village since it’s where he lives. I wanna see more!
