Wahoo!! I earned myself a new half marathon PR today! My previous PR was 1:58:01 at the Chilly Half Marathon last November, but I murdered it with a 1:57:16 (8:57 pace) at The Half of Quincy this morning!

A little over 700 runners came out for the 2nd Annual Half of Quincy this morning. The race started and finished at Quincy High School, so the route was one big loop all over Quincy.

I lived in Quincy for three years, so it was fun to see my old stomping grounds. I even ran by both of the apartments (West Squantum Street & Pine Street) where we lived!

I thought the course would be pancake flat, but there were definitely a few hill surprises along the way. Around Mile 5, there was a steep climb for about 0.3 miles, which was tough, but I still had fuel in the engine to propel myself up it.

However, another hill around Mile 10 almost killed me. I didn’t stop to walk it, but I slowed my pace down a ton. When I was almost about to give up, I saw Mal and Murphy at the top, which gave me the boost that I needed to finish strong. I can’t even tell you how excited I was to see them! I yelled out both of their names and ran over to the side of the course and gave them each a huge kiss. I must have looked like a total nut because the police officer, directing traffic nearby, started laughing at me!

Overall, the course for The Half of Quincy was really beautiful. We ran along the ocean and Wollaston Beach and then onto the Squantum Peninsula where there was marshland on either side, and then into Marina Bay by docked yachts and sailboats. Very scenic. I love routes where you can appreciate the view like this. It actually sort of gives me energy.

After spending yesterday doing what you’re not supposed to do the day before a half marathon, I am REALLY happy with my time!

Since the race, I’ve been smiling all day long! It’s crazy what running can do for your confidence and self-esteem. Maybe it’s just all of the post-race endorphins that are making me feel so good? I dunno, but I love it!

    Wolly Beach will always have a special place in my heart, it was my first outdoor running spot right after they redid the whole sidewalk and I felt such an accomplishment when I finally ran the whole thing down and back (4 miles total) without stopping 🙂
