Good morning! Happy Monday! š
First things first: The Great Fundraising Act!
If you haven’t heard about The Great Fundraising Act yet, Janetha of Meals and Moves has organized a live online auction and bake sale for Susan, a fellow blogger, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and has hefty medical bills to the tune of $5000 monthly. For more info about Susan and this fundraiser, you can click here.
The Great Fundraising Act kicks off TODAY! There are over 100 items to bid on, and all funds raised through the auction will go directly to benefit Susan’s treatment.
This is by far biggest online auction I’ve ever seen in the blogworld. Please consider checking it out and bidding. Two signed copies of my book are up for grabs!
Breakfast
I woke up craving eggs this morning. I usually wake up craving cupcakes, so it was a nice change of pace.
I made an egg sandwich on a whole wheat Sandwich Thin with watermelon and an iced coffee with soy milk on the side. Delish.
Marylou’s 25Ā¢ Iced Coffee
I’m super excited about this:
Obviously, I’m taking a trip to Marylou’s today.
Question of the Day
What is your favorite summer ritual?
Mine: Drinking copious amounts of iced coffee. Ok, I do that year-round. My favorite summer ritual is taking Murphy for evening walks. I love the cool evenings. Murphy does too. Going to Kimball’s for ice cream is also aĀ summer ritual. I need to take a trip SOON!
P.S. A new Carrots ‘N’ Weights post is coming later this morning!

I love fro yo in the summer time. Actually, wait no I love fro yo all year round but in the summer it is just that much more delicious!
I already picked my $.25 Mary Lou’s coffee up! What a great deal!
Favorite summer ritual: eating breakfast on the deck and watering all thee flowers and veggies and herbs at night. And eating a ridiculous amount of watermelon and ice cream.
With a deal like that, you might have to take more than one visit… š
@Lisa @ Sunny Seed Stories: I just might! š
Favorite summer ritual: savoring my breakfast! I teach, so during the school years, mornings are crazy! Now I get to relax, drink iced coffee (from the keurig; it’s really good!), and watch the today show in the morning. I love it!
I hope this fundraiser is super successful!!!
The auction is a huuge success! I can’t believe these bids rolling in in just an hour!
OH— and my favorite summer ritual is definitely iced coffee pool side… and going to farmers markets around DC.
Summer Rituals: FroYo is definitely my favorite ritual… If I can convince anyone to go I’m there! My second is evening walks with friends to catch up and release some tension from the day. O yea and yoga outside if weather temps permit š
Favorite summer ritual (well, one of them!) is going for soft serve ice cream or fro yo in a waffle cone in the evenings š
Favorite summer ritual — definitely taking late evening walks with Jason — it has been too hot to do that lately, but hopefully it will cool down a tad and we’ll be able to get out there more.
Going to Vermont for a couple of nights in August, enjoying frozen yogurt from a local ice cream/yogurt stand, and re-reading Agatha Christie mysteries. š
Favourite summer rituals: eating ice cream while walking by the lake; drinking beer on a nice patio; evening walks.
Ooooh I love Kimballs š
@Errign: What’s your favorite flavor?
@Tina: Any of the peanut buttery ones – peanut butter chip, vanilla peanut butter, chocolate peanut butter are all pretty darn fabulous. My grandfather grew up going to Kimballs and he’s 81 now and he still goes every summer, which is pretty awesome š I haven’t been there in years – I need to get down there when I’m home in NH!
Favorite summer rituals would definitely be the beach all day followed by a post-beach sun-soaked nap (sometimes with sand still on my toes). There’s nothing more relaxing, with a good sea breeze crossing the room.
Summer ritual?? Waking up at 7am in July to watch The Tour! I wake up for Andy Schleck who may be considering requesting a restraining order on me because I have Schleck fever!!
Iced coffee for sure! But also suntanning and reading books on my deck š
My Favorite summer ritual is going to the local ice cream hut with my mom to get orange sorbet in a cone. It is amazingly refreshing on those hot summer days.
I would say making homemade ice cream is my favorite ritual! I can make any kind I want and it always pairs so nicely with whatever baked good I have around the house š
This summer, taking evening walks with one of my roommates and her dog down to the lake for a cool off swim has been a weekly ritual.
Wow 25 cents! Enjoy a few of those today;)
My favorite summertime ritual is definitely going to Custard Castle (ice cream stand) and buying flats of blueberries at a local farm (I live near Hammonton, NJ the “Blueberry Capitol of the world” where they push out 30% of the world’s blueberries!).

My favorite summer ritual is enjoying an early breakfast out on my balcony! It is so nice to see the little pond out back with all th nature… before it gets too hot!
Long walks with my doggie are at the top of my Summer rituals list too! We always make sure to go first thing in the morning to beat the heat. My neighborhood is so peaceful at 7am! š

My favorite summer ritual apart from spending the 4th of July down the cape are evening trips to JJ’s a local ice cream shop with my hubby and parents!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Kimball’s. I’m going to NH this weekend for a family thing and have actually planned my drive so that there is a Kimball’s stop on the way. It’s amazing.
Our family reunion is always in the summer and it’s always great to see everyone, cousins, uncles, etc. Spiked lemonade and lounging by the pool while the kiddos play.
Then ice creams parties after dinner. Fun times.
My fav summer ritual is getting fro yo or a margarita! š
I hope the fundraiser goes well! I’ll definitely check it out!
That breakfast looks absolutely PERFECT. My favorite summer rituals are grilling out every single night, lots of pool parties, and going to the farmers market every Saturday morning and stocking up on fresh produce.
I love running outdoors, hitting up DQ, and hanging out the yard with family. And, of course, summer foods like corn on the cob!
Not really a ritual, but I love the sound of cicadas buzzing on hot summer nights. It’s a true sign of summer and makes me so nostalgic!
Definitely long walks with the dog on the bike trail to take advantage of the extended day light š
So jealous of that coffee! What a great deal! š
My favorite summer ritual has to be grilling and eating outside. It just feels like that perfect summer thing to do!
I tried making iced coffee for the first time this week to deal with the crazy heat – I’m hooked now! Thanks for the inspiration Tina š
Ooo wish I had a Marylou’s!
Summer ritual — ice cream, ice coffees, and reading by the pool
My favorite summer ritual? Going to the river! That’s the only thing that my town has to offer, and people come from far off just to boat around on the Tennessee River. So much fun!
I, also, drink copious amounts of iced coffee during the entire year. It’s so much better that hot to me!
when i lived in NYC, it was going to central park for a picnic and to see my mom sing with the metropolitan opera (she sang in the chorus for 35 years). now that i live in LA (and she’s retired in NJ) i love going to the hollywood bowl to see a concert. i still haven’t gone this season, so i don’t feel like it’s officially summer yet š
“I usually wake up craving cupcakes…”
Oh, my, does this sound like my mornings or what. Haha.
Favorite summer ritual: packing up a cooler and spending all day out on the lake!
Favorite summer ritual: soaking up the sun by my pool, followed by a barbeque and a cold beer!
My favorite summer ritual is getting to read out on the patio on summer evenings. Sitting out with a good book and a bowl of frozen yogurt is absolutely divine!
My favorite summer ritual is going to Cape Cod and eating lobster rolls for a week straight. Oh, I also enjoy the homemade fudge…no big deal!
That watermelon looks so refreshing!
Some of my favorite summertime rituals are going to the beach in Maine and Cape Cod, having cookouts, drinking margaritas, going camping, eating ice cream, and looking at the stars! Love summer.
Ah thank you for blogging about the Mary Lou’s deal! I’ll definitely be stopping on my drive up to Boston!
AHHH KIMBALL’S!!!! I was living within 15 miles of a Kimball’s for two years, then I went to California to spend the summer with my family. I only was able to make ONE TRIP before I left! Hopefully I can scramble and get a few more visits in before they close up for the dreaded winter!
My favorite summer tradition is spending the day on the lake. Also, grilling and eating outside every day!
One summer ritual is going to the local ice cream shop. I love little local places… they are usually less expensive and taste better!!
I think bbq’ing might be my favorite summer ritual. To me, it’s just not officially summer until you’ve had a BBQ! š
I’ve not been able to view images on the RSS feed from your blog (using Outlook 07). This just started happening a couple weeks ago. I’m not sure where else to post this. When I click on the x’d image box from the RSS feed, it brings up a forbidden error on the web. But if I browse to the picture from the web, its fine, even though its the same url. Any ideas?
