Good morning! Happy Friday!
This morning’s topic is the Brady Bunch, but FOOD first! (Boy, are they groovy!)
Dinner
Last night’s dinner inspiration was courtesy of Giada Laurentiis. I made her husband’s favorite Farfalle with Turkey Sausage, Peas and Mushrooms that she mentioned during our conversation last week.
Giada said she makes this meal when she’s short on time, and now I understand why. From start to finish, it came together in less than 20 minutes. I used turkey sausage instead of ground turkey, which didn’t need to be cooked as long and sped up the process.
It was a delicious, easy, and cheesy dinner.
Breakfast
This morning’s breakfast was also easy and cheesy. I threw together a quick egg and cheese sandwich on a toasted Bagel Thin. It was nothing special, but it did the trick.
My Favorite Brady Bunch Episodes
On The Ellen Show the other day, Ann Curry gave Ellen a bracelet that originally belonged to the Dalai Lama. Ellen talked about it in her monologue and joked that maybe it was cursed like the Tiki necklace that Greg Brady found on their family vacation to Hawaii. Ellen’s reference to the episode made think about other great Brady Bunch episodes, so here are three of my favorites.
āThe Personality Kid”
Four words: Pork chops and applesauce.
Growing up, every time my mom made pork chops for dinner, my sister and I would say āpork chops and applesauceāĀ (just like Peter Brady) over and over again. We thought it was hilarious. I actually think we’d probably still say it now if we ate pork chops at my mom’s house.
Peter goes to a party and apparently someone there tells him that he’s dull and doesn’t have a personality. Convinced he doesn’t have personality, Peter goes all out to try to get one. After imitating celebrities, Peter decides to try a funny personality in which he stocks up on jokes and plans to show his new personality off at a party. [source]
āDough Ri MiāĀ
Of course, I included a video with this episode. I can’t sing this song without making my voice crack like Peter’s. (I’m sorry if it gets stuck in your head all day long.)
In “Dough Re Mi,” Greg is hoping to sign a recording contract, but after executive decides that a family group is better, Greg invites his siblings to become part of his act. While rehearsing “We Can Make the World a Whole Lot Brighter,” Peter’s voice begins to crack suddenly, raising concerns about the group’s viability. Greg initially wants to drop Peter from the group, but after getting advice from his parents, Mike and Carol, he decides to write a new song where Peter’s cracking voice won’t be so conspicuous; that song is “Time to Change.” The final act features the siblings in the recording studio recording the song. [source]
“The Subject Was Noses”
āOoh, my nose!āĀ Obviously.
Marcia has made two dates for the school dance, one with plain Charley and the other with heartthrob jock Doug Simpson. In order to go out with the latter, Marcia dumps Charley, only to incur a swollen nose after being hit with a football hurled by brother Peter. Appalled by Marcia’s appearance, Doug in turn dumps Marcia. Charley doesn’t mind though, as the two go out to a pizza parlor where Marcia later recounts that “meek” Charley punched Doug in the nose during an altercation. [source]
Oyster Orgy Giveaway
Thanks to everyone who entered yesterday’s giveaway to win a set of tickets to the Oyster Orgy at Tavern on the Water next week. Here are your winners:
Rory: I love oysters almost as much as I love Tavern on the Water, sounds like a great event!
Tasha: My fiance and I just moved to Boston. We love seafood, but we don’t have much money to spend on it because I’m in grad school and he’s at a startup. I’d love to surprise him with tickets. It would make his week!
Congrats, Rory and Tasha! Please email me at tina@carrotsncake.com to claim your tickets.

I used to *love* the Brady Bunch. The nose one had to of been one of my favorites. š
LOVE the Brady Bunch! I even had their record when I was a kid!
I love simple dinners that end up being delicious – Giada’s are usually pretty reliable!
I think my favourite episodes are all from The Ellen Show, not The Brady Bunch š
I loved the Brady Bunch! I can’t really remember any episodes in particular though. The movie is so funny š
YES! I loved the Brady Bunch. I remember the movies, I think they were called A Very Brady Movie and A Very Brady Sequel, but my favourite single episode is Dough Ri Mi. š
Do you remember the Christmas movie?!
I loved watching these clips! Definetly made my morning š
This made me laugh this morning! My husband and his brother always say porkchops and applesauce the same way it’s almost become a habit and now whenever there is talk of porkchops someone has to say it!
I used to say “Porkchops and applesauce” like that too!! Haa! My favorite episode is definitely the Hawaii one. When we had a bad day at my old job, we would always launch into the Brady Bunch Hawaii Episode bit and joke about how we had to put the cursed tiki back before Alice threw her back out at the hula competition!
I watched the Brady Bunch, of course! But my fave show from my childhood was Three’s Company. I could give you a run down of every single episode š
I used to love the Brady Bunch! I think my favorite episode was the one where Marcia gets hit in the nose, the Hawaii episode and the one where Cindy has to get her tonsils taken out. I miss shows like that!
That was a great episode too!
mmmm yummy simple dinners are THE way I roll–look delish!
I never watched the Brady Bunch….but I know who Marsha is. Haha š
OMG yes I loved loved the Brady Bunch!! I thought their clothes were so cool and I would watch it all the time when I was younger. To this day when someone says pork chops I instantly say in my head “pork chops and applesauce, isn’t the swell?!” LOL! š
I remember watching episode after episode of the Brady Bunch when I was home sick from school, curled up on my neighbor’s couch. Those were the days…
Isn’t The Brady Bunch every person’s secret guilty pleasure??
I think so! š
Hi Tina – just a quick question: what happened to all of your stomach problems?? you haven’t written much about them recently, so i hope that means you are feeling better!!
@amy: I am! Thanks for asking! š
i loved the brady bunch! my favorite was of course the most episode… a classic! dinner last night looks delish.
I watched the brady bunch during Nick at Nite but I didn’t watch it enough to have a favorite episode..
Only watched a little of the Brady Bunch. I liked it, but didn’t have TV growing up, so didn’t have many chances to watch it. Several people told me I looked like Jan. (I used to have long, straight, brown hair.)
I never watched the actual Brady Bunch show – but I did watch the movies and loved them! I probably would’ve loved the show too and actually this makes me think I should get it on DVD to watch through š
I loved the brady bunch! So sad the dad from the show died from hiv/aids
Great episodes form the Brady Bunch. Reminds me of the I Love Lucy’s Vitametavegimin episode. That was hilarious!
And that pasta dish looks wonderful. Think I will need to add it to my menu plan. š
“Something suddenly came up” —- still using that line just as Marcia used it on Charley so she could go out with Big Man On Campus Doug Simpson. Loved the Grand Canyon ep with the beans in the flashlight, YATA HEH.
I L-O-V-E the Brady Bunch, and remember saying “pork chops and applesauce” with my sister as a kid. Fave has to be any of the competition episodes where it’s boys vs girls – like Marsha and Greg’s driving test… good times.
Haha! I remember that one!
You are welcome in advanced for this: http://youtu.be/XKrNbCpJ1Fg
I love that pasta recipe from Giada, I’ve been making it for at least 3 years now. So easy and delicious š
It’s def a winning recipe! š
This is freaky. I did a post on the Brady Bunch yesterday! š

I always loved the “Oh, my nose!” episode. It’s a classic!
Nice! I’ll def check it out! The Brady Bunch rules! š
I used to watch the Brady Bunch! And my mom and I would ALWAYS say pork chops and applesauce!! š
there was a house in my neighborhood that looked JUST like the Brady house. When it went on sale, I BEGGED my mom to get it. She didn’t. Clearly, she doesn’t love me.
Ready for NYC? Going to be FAB here.
I hope I’m ready! It’s so soon!!
We didn’t watch much t.v. in my house but you better believe I’ve seen every single episode of the Brady Bunch.
I used to love the Brady Bunch.. When i was growing up, it was on every Saturday morning and I would sit and watch it, wishing I had a huge family of siblings as well. š
When I saw the picture of your iphone I thought you were going to say that it was the new 4S haha can you tell where my head is?
I LOVED the brady bunch. I’m only 20, so I watched it on nick at nite when I was in elementary school along with Gilligans Island, and Threes Company. All the good stuff š My favorite episode was when they went to Hawaii! My parents got married in Hawaii and they always told stories, so I loved seeing it in action. And it just really dated the show for me when a big chunk of the episode consisted on going to the Pearl Harbor memorial and honoring those who lost their lives. They really wouldn’t do something like that today… which is incredibly sad…
i loved the brady bunch growing up and occasionally watch episodes nowadays. i also live about a 20 min drive from the house where they shot the exterior which is always fun to bring out of town visitors to:

I only watched in reruns, so not enough to have a favourite episode!
oh the football to the nose was one of my personal favorites! I love that show! why cant more shows on tv today be like that one?
I loveeed the Brady Bunch, especially the movies!!
I love love love the Brady bunch! My favorite episode is time to change – but I also love “Kitty Karry-all is missing” š Thanks for the nostalgia this morning!
@Andrea @ cleanupeatup.com: LOL! š
Oh my…. you started my day off with a smile. The Brady Bunch- what a blast from the past. THank you for sharing. Have a great weekend.
You know I had to chime in on the Brady Bunch post:) I think my favorite is the Nose episode too!
I watched the Brady Bunch when I was little. I loved it! I t hink my fav ep was when Greg and Marcia were fighting over the attic bedroom.
I love the Brady Bunch!! I love pretty much all the episodes, but Dough Re Mi is a particular favorite š
LOVED the Brady Bunch. I would watch it all the time when I was younger. I think my fav was the Hawaii episodes.
I’ve never seen an episode of the Brady Bunch! I feel like I’m the only one here who hasn’t… š
I loved The Brady Bunch! Confession: A Very Brady Christmas is on every year and I cry a little every time at the end when Mr. Brady comes out of the building. I’m a total dork!
Every time I make pork chops, I think of Peter Brady š
I love the episode with Marsha and the nose. What a great show!
I used to love watching reruns of The Brady Bunch on school vacations. Like many others, my favorite episode is the Marsha’s nose one.
I watched The Brady Bunch Movie with my uncle when I was 10 or so and totally missed the satirical undertones. There’s a scene when the whole family goes somewhere (the mall?) and they are walking around with their arms hooked together probably singing and I remember thinking, hmm why don’t we do that? I was such a dork š
In Middle School my friends and I were OBSESSED with the brady bunch! I don’t even know why… You really should see the parody movies about the brady bunch, if you know the show then they are absolutely hilarious! The Brady Bunch Movie (1995) and A Very Brady Sequel (1996). The sequel is my favorite.
MARSHA MARSHA MARSHA!
I loved the Brady Bunch!
I remember watching really random episodes, but I honestly can’t say that I remember what happened in any of them. Actually, I think that happens to me with most shows…
Oh my goodness my mom uses the “pork chops and applesauce” line all the time. She said it to us all the time growing up. Love the Brady Bunch!
