Good morning!

The best part of my morning involves this little guy:

Monday through Friday at 5:45 AM, Mal wakes up for school and Murphy wakes up for breakfast. While Mal showers and gets ready for the day, Murphy inhales his food in 60 seconds and then comes back to bed to with me. (Yes, my dog is super lazy.) Murphy and I only cuddle for about 10 minutes or so, but it’s easily my favorite part of the morning.


Breakfast is my second favorite part of the morning!

Today: Overnight Oats In a Jar mixed with mashed acorn squash, quinoa, soy milk, maple syrup, cinnamon, and ground flaxseed meal.

And iced coffee with soy milk.

Last Night’s Dinner

Winner winner chicken dinner! I made Pan-Roasted Chicken With Lemon-Garlic Green Beans, which was so simple and turned out wonderfully.

You could pretty much use any kind of vegetable with this recipe. It called for red potatoes, but the ones at the grocery store looked disgusting, so I opted for the yellow variety. Brussels sprouts, onions, broccoli”¦ they’d all work with this recipe too.

I also sort of winged it with the lemon marinade. I added extra garlic and some Meyer Lemon Vinaigrette for even more flavor. It turned out great.

Dessert was a “special” treat: a Crispin/Mutsu apple with cream cheese fruit-dip.

  1. The best part of my morning is right after a light across the room automatically turns on and seconds later my alarm goes off. At this point I am somewhat awake, my room is nice and bright and my boyfriend and I snuggle for another 10 minutes. It’s such a great way to wake up – gradually and naturally.

    Before I get out of bed I do a few cat and cow poses to wake my spine/back up, do a couple child’s poses and then make my bed. This is all done in 12 minutes before I even shower and I wouldn’t change it at all!

  2. Mornings start with Mick, my husband, up by 5:00 and getting ready for work. He takes Alouysius the Wonder Pug for a bathroom break before he leaves, then brings him up to sleep with me for another hour. Snuggly Pug? Best thing ever!

  3. GREAT FitSugar article… I have forgotten socks a few times and never really gave myself a chance to think outside the box… like take a yoga class instead! Duh, right?? haha

    Every mornig my boyfriend wakes up and showers before me… my favorite part of the morning is when he comes back upstairs, turns on the lights and wakes me up with jokes and kisses. He is hilarious and makes me all the time. Laughing in the morning is the best way to start the day 😀

  4. The best part of my morning is when my dog comes up to my face and kisses me good morning then lays down next to me! Second part is my morning cup of coffee!

  5. My favorite part of the morning is on my morning run when the sun is just about to rise and the sky is a fantastic shade of blue. Since I live in a foggy place, this doesn’t always happen but it really does make my day when it does!

  6. On the days when I can get myself out of bed, going for a walk first thing in the morning is the best part. The fresh air and rising sun just start my day off right. Now if only I could remind myself that each morning when I struggle to get out from under the covers!

  7. My puppy does that too! Goes nuts getting my DH up to feed her and then as she’s done she runs back upstairs, jumps in bed, and demands to get under the covers to curl up with me. 🙂

  8. My best part of the morning is the (good) exhaustion I feel after sweatin’ it up at the gym. It always leaves me feeling so energized and ready to take on the day.

  9. I think the best part of my morning is actually packing lunches for me and my boyfriend. Your book inspired me, so I’m now trying to get us in the routine of waking up early and enjoying a bowl of oatmeal together before our hectic work + school days begin.

    Now that I’ve answered your questions, I have 2 questions for you, Tina! 😉
    1) What do you think of all this “Wheat Belly” buzz? I read a few blog posts about it and am listening to the book on audible and it’s pretty compelling stuff. I know you love your wheat berries and think whole grains are part of healthy balance. So did I, but now that I realize what whole wheat can do to your blood sugar, I’m reevaluating everything!
    2) And now a somewhat related question: Phytic acid? I’m into the whole clean eating movement and wonder what your thoughts are on phytic acid. Do you ever think about it when thinking of something as healthy or unhealthy? I’ve read a lot about it and it seems that peanuts, soybeans, and lots of grains are high in phytic acid, so I’ve tried replacing peanut butter with almond, cashew, walnut, hazelnut, and even pistachio and pecan butters. When it comes to grains, I’ve read phytic acid it’s water soluble, so rinsing, soaking and sprouting helps. My understanding is the phytic acid binds to minerals making them unavailable during digestion. Do you agree?


  10. The best part of my morning is definitely coffee/breakfast! And running and/or yoga if I manage to get it in. Such a great way to kick off the day 🙂 Though if I had a Murphy, that may be mine too!

  11. The best part of my morning is hitting the snooze so I can snuggle for an extra 10 semi-conscious minutes with the BF and cat! And then some VOOs! Thanks for that link, that is the worst when you forget stuff for the gym!

  12. Puppy cuddles are the best part of my morning too. My dog refuses to sleep in my bed, but every morning when my alarm goes off she jumps up and curls in right beside me for her morning cuddles. Its the sweetest thing ever, and makes waking up an awful lot less sucky.

  13. every morning, I send my husband off to work with a cup of coffee, a muffin, and a kiss. I don’t care how early it is, that kiss is my favorite part of the morning.

  14. The best part of my morning is that 9 minutes between the first alarm and the “get up NOW” alarm, when my husband puts his arms around me and we slowly wake up together. The second best part is the jumping out of bed and going for a run immediately after!

  15. The best part of my morning is when I open the shower curtain, my cat has pushed the bathroom door open and is sitting there waiting for me as if she’s next! She is very verbal and “scolds” me as if I used all the hot water.

  16. The best part of my morning is curling up in a chair with both dogs (and usually a cat) while I drink my coffee and browse blogs. Thankfully the dogs are little or the chair would be too packed! Also, loved your Opensky deal today. I had been looking for a jacket and beanie to expand my running into the fall and be ready for a late October Chicago race and I love the I Run Like a Girl package you had today. Thanks for keeping me stylish while I run!

  17. The best part of my morning is taking a minute to enjoy my coffee while catching up on emails and blogs. I love those 10 minutes before the day gets crazy!

  18. The best part of my morning is definitely sitting down to breakfast and coffee, while watching the morning news! Although, I would love to have a dog to snuggle – I’m sure that would become the best part of my morning too!

  19. The best part of my morning is two wholegrain waffles with chunky peanut butter and sugar free strawberry jam spread all over them, enjoyed while catching up on all the blogs/sites I read, and getting ready for my day!

  20. My favorite part about my mornings is just after I’ve opened my eyes. I raise my blinds on my window, and shmush around my covers in the sunlight, feeling so happy and blessed for a new day. But, when I’m back at my parent’s house, the best part of the morning is watching Saturday morning cartoons with my dog and little brother!

  21. the best part of my morning is definitely getting a good morning snuggle from my little yorkie pup. he’s the world’s best cuddle bunny, and it makes it very difficult to get out of bed!

  22. I love love love! my view in the morning. I peer out across my parking lot, retreat center & through the trees at the sun rising over the bay almost every day. Each time it takes my breath away!

  23. My dog wakes me up in the morning, excited to go for a walk. He won’t let me hit the snooze button, and while it drove me crazy at first, I love that it forces me up out of bed now and that I have the time on our walk to think about the day ahead.

  24. Murphy must be a better jumper than my pug. My bed isn’t even that high but he doesn’t even try.. actually that’s not true.. on occasion he’ll get up, but then paces for 5 minutes before he gets up the courage to jump down :p

    1. Murphy actually uses the trunk in front of our bed to get up on it, but he can jump from the floor onto the bed, which is pretty impressive for a little dog!

  25. The best part of my morning is waking up before everyone else and having some quiet time to myself. I usually either enjoy some tea and read a book or blogs on the internet.
