The Best Coffee

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Good morning, friends! Happy Monday!

I started my day with two Van waffles with Teddie peanut butter and sliced banana on top. Dee-lish! Peanut butter and banana rocks my world.

While I ate my breakfast, Murphy watched Mal make his lunch (Mal’s lunch not Murphy’s lunch. Murphy doesn’t go to school. Although, I think he might really like it), which was a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Apparently, the thought of peanut butter made Murphy’s mouth water, so when he came over to sit with me once Mal finished, there was a big, long string of drool hanging from his mouth (Murphy’s mouth, not Mal’s). Haha! Poor Murph.

I guess the pug was really in the mood for peanut butter this morning, so I gave him the leftover jar. (We go through peanut butter like it’s our job in this house.)

Even as the leader of the P.A.M.C., I hope Murphy was able to enjoy the start of his Monday morning.

Once I finished eating my breakfast, I poured myself a glass of iced coffee with almond milk. I like drinking water with breakfast to rehydrate myself after sleeping for 8-ish hours, so I often wait until after breakfast to get my iced coffee on.

When I took my first sip of iced coffee, I literally said out loud: “Damn, that’s good.” Mal asked me what I was talking about, and I told him my iced coffee was especially tasty this morning. We make two pots of iced coffee””regular and decaf””so he was curious what I had going on in my decaf pot.

Well, local friends, you might be interested to hear this”¦ the Colombian Supremo decaf coffee from the Simply Enjoy line at Stop & Shop is really delicious””and cheap! The package says it’s a medium body coffee, but I brew it strong for iced coffee, and it’s awesome. It reminds me of “New York City” coffee.

The reason I say “New York City” is because some of the best coffee I’ve ever drank was there.

ninth street espresso

I always get a little extra excited when I visit NYC””obviously because I get to see Bailey, but also because I get to have really amazing coffee. I love Ninth Street Espresso and Stumptown.

Question of the Day

Who makes the BEST coffee?

P.S. Check out my newest post on Summer Planning: Getting Into the (Right) Swimsuit Season State of Mind!

  1. Well, we have been drinking the MaryLou’s coffee you sent me last week, and I think it is the best coffee I have ever had. My husband said “Where can we get more of this?” So thanks! I may have to travel to Boston once in a while:).

  2. I recently started using the Kcup insert that allows you to brew any coffee you want rather than rely on the Kcup varieties. I am loving the Entenmann’s flavors of vanilla cake and chocolate donut. I still recall a fabulous cup of coffee in Hershey Park. It was a cinnamon roll something or other. It was delicious!

  3. I love Fresh Market coffees, my favorite flavor of theirs so far has been the hazelnut amaretto but all the ones I have had are really good. I recently bought a cheap coffee at the store because it was cheap and I didn’t want to make a special stop at Fresh Market, bad decision. Bad coffee is just bad, like not worth drinking.

  4. I totally know what you mean about “NY coffee”. Once I had some, I went on a quest and had to figure out how to make it at home. I’ve been cold-brewing ever since and I love having that strong flavor at home whenever I want. And it is a TON cheaper!

  5. Providence, Rhode Island has the best coffee ever! I’m graduating in two weeks and thats going to be one of the things I’ll miss most!

  6. Isn’t good coffee the best?? Target makes a tiramisu coffee that is super decadent. I like strong, black coffee so I go through coffee grounds much faster than a normal human.

  7. I need to see if I can get that coffee around here. I’m always on the lookout for a good brand. We have a chocolate shop in town that sells delicious flavored coffees but since we bought a keurig I haven’t done much with bagged coffee.

  8. I totally agree about NYC coffee! I have to visit our NY office about once a month for work, and I always say that the coffee tastes so much better there, even at Starbucks, haha (probably not true about Starbucks but I swear it tastes that way sometimes). I’m loving Starbucks blonde roast right now (you can easily brew it strong and it tastes great) but I second Fresh Market coffees, too. Mary Lou’s hawaiian chocolate nut was also pretty awesome when I had the chance to try it.

  9. Local coffee shops are always the best! There is a small chain in MN (and I think TX now too) called Dunn Bros and I am always giddy when I get the chance to enjoy their coffee in the morning 🙂 It is always the little things that make us the happiest! Happy Monday!

  10. World Market is my secret for great ground coffee. Really affordable too! I’ve tried their Caramel Blend and the Texas Turtle flavor. Both dee-licious.

  11. I hate to say it – and I might be the only person on the planet who thinks this – but my office coffee is the best, especially when it’s already there and made for me. We have a cinnamon nut variety that is so extra delicious.

  12. I’ll have to try the Simply Enjoy, we have “Giant” grocery store here in PA, they carry the same store brand stuff as Stop & Shop. 🙂

  13. Oh I am so upset that I didn’t try Ninth Street or Slumptown while I was in NYC last week…I did happen upon Caffe Reggios though and that was so YUMMY coffee. Probably my favorite coffee 🙂

  14. I’m dangerously addicted to iced coffee. I’ll have to check out that brand. I usually brew Peet’s Coffee, so strong and so good. Oh, and thank you for clarifying that Murphy was drooling on you, not Mal…although I bet Mal drools on you sometimes too 😉

  15. I don’t know about the “best” coffee but the hubs, and I like Tim Horton’s Original whole bean coffee that we order from Amazon and really like’s coconut whole bean coffee which is super good especially in iced coffee

  16. I love Caribou coffee (I’m in MN) for a treat. They make amazing “Northern Lite” lattes (sugar free syrups and skim milk). I have a Keurig and I use the stainless steel Eco-Brew cup. I love the Target brand “Archer Farm”- they have good flavors like vanilla creme brule, tiramisu (someone above mentioned it, too) and organic fair trade blends. I can usually get a bag on sale for $6, which I think is pretty cheap!

  17. My husband and I still talk about the Kona coffee when we went to Hawaii 15 years ago. It was that good. My daily fix is Newman’s Own Organic Bold Roast. (Kcup).

  18. Hands Down…Duncan Donuts makes THE BEST coffee…EVER! I was so stoked when they started selling it in the grocery stores because my husband and I don’t have a DD by us so my dad would stop there on his way to work sometimes and pick up a bag of coffee for me. It was a wonderful treat when I got to see my parents and my dad would have some delish coffee waiting for me.

  19. There is a local drive-thru only coffee shop called Scooters that, I swear, imports their white chocolate mocha straight from heaven. Thousand calorie heaven, but still! 😉

  20. We brew Dunkin Donuts Turbo blend in the bialetti. I always drown it in cream and sugar… it’s a downfall really. I’ve come to the conclusion that I coffee and I don’t really like each other. It’s only our friend sugar that keeps the conversation going.

  21. Ah, the simple pleasure of a good iced coffee. The Greeks have rocked them for years – they call them Frappes. Definitely had some of my best there although they love to add loads of sugar and evaporated milk :S

  22. Ninth Street is my first love, I used to live around the corner from the first location. There are so many great coffee shops in NYC. I second La Colombe and Joe the Art of Coffee has always been good but has recently picked up their game even more. But my absolute favorite is Abraco. It is the size of a walk in closet, but untouchable coffee and such an experience, with incredible little sandwiches and treats.

  23. I’m a huge fan of some good ol’ peets coffee and tea but there’s a breakfast place here in LA called Kings Road and it might be the most delicious cup of coffee I’ve ever had.
