Hi, guys! Happy Cyber Monday!
How was your Thanksgiving? Mine was really great. I loved being home with family and spending time with friends this past weekend. I also barely thought about work, so it was really nice to unplug and not sit in front of my computer. Of course, it’s back to work today, but I’m feeling rested, refreshed, and ready to blog. That said, here’s my recap of Thanksgiving!
This year’s Thanksgiving was so nice and relaxing. We spent the majority of the holiday with Mal’s family (we alternate which family we eat Thanksgiving dinner with each year), but we also stopped by my grandmother’s house for a little while, so we could see my side of the family too.
There was a bigger-than-usual group for Thanksgiving dinner at that Haupert’s this year, which was a lot fun.
Pumpkin martinis? Hello!
Since we had a big group, everyone chipped in and brought a dish or two to contribute, and we served ourselves buffet-style.
Check out the spread! We had so much amazing food!
I loaded up my plate with so many delicious sides dishes, I barely had room for turkey””but aren’t the side dishes the best part of Thanksgiving? Mal would disagree with me (he’s a turkey lover), but all of the different sides are my favorite part of the meal.
Once everyone served themselves and sat down to eat (Mal and I were at the “kid’s table”), my in-laws said a few words and noted some of the family’s recent accomplishments and things that we are all especially thankful for this year. It was really nice.
I am especially thankful for Mal. He’s the best and makes me laugh everyday… when he’s not making himself laugh (although I laugh at with him then too).
And, of course, I saved room for dessert!
I made Oreo Bars, which came out really well. Julie actually gave me the idea, and I thought they sounded so delicious, so I just winged it with the recipe. You make them just like you would Rice Krispies Treats with melted marshmallows and butter, but instead of Rice Krispies you use crushed up Oreo cookies. Yum! They were definitely a hit with everyone!
After dinner, all of our friends from home came over (a yearly tradition) and we played an epic game of Cards Against Humanity and, of course, laughed a whole lot.
One of our friends found his hat, which had been missing for years, in the hall closet at the Haupert’s house. It was a Thanksgiving miracle we’ll never forget!
