Thankful Friday

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Good morning! Happy Friday!

I’m at the doctor’s office right now for some tests, including a rather uncomfortable flexible sigmoidoscopy, so, needless to say, my morning isn’t off to the best start. I promised myself I wouldn’t let colitis get me down, so I’m taking a page from Ali‘s super positive book and blogging about what I am thankful for this morning.

I’m thankful M & m. These two have taken really good care of me over the past several days””cooking, cleaning, snuggling, and making me laugh and smile as much as possible. I love them so much.

I’m thankful I work from home. Colitis flare = frequent trips to the bathroom. Nuff said. Ok, it’s nice to have the pug around for mid-day cuddle sessions too.

I’m thankful for The Black Key’s song “Lonely Boy.” Every I time I hear it, I want to dance, which usually involves some weird bouncing/knee shaking move that I know looks absolutely ridiculous. When I pick up Murphy to do it with him (pugs love to dance), it’s even more insane. I actually laugh at myself.

I’m thankful for a mild winter. After last year’s Snowmageddon, this winter is like child’s play, and I absolutely love it. I can’t believe I’ve run outside in a short sleeve shirt on more than one occasion.

I’m thankful for Gchat, email chains, text messages, and friends who get me. I honestly don’t know where’d be without my blog friends. They support me, give me great advice, and constantly make me laugh. As you know, laughter is the best medicine.

I’m thankful I can afford my medical bills. I know I bitch about my health insurance a lot, but I’m very thankful that I can afford to pay my medical bills. I know there are a lot of people out there who aren’t as fortunate.

I’m thankful for pugs in leg warmers.

And silly hats. This one doesn’t need explaining, right?

I’m thankful for the random night at 647 Washington Street when I met my friend, Jen. Nearly 10 years later, it’s still fun to tell the story of how we met. Not surprisingly, it involved booze!

I’m thankful for total strangers who want to help me. I honestly cannot thank you guys enough for your support, kind words, funny photos, tweets, recommendations, suggestions, and everything else you have sent my way in recent days. Knowing that there are so many people out there who care about me makes getting through this flare easier.

I’m thankful for this neck warmer thing. I’ve been heating it up in the microwave and putting it on my neck to help me relax before bed each night. It feels nice and helps me fall asleep.

I’m thankful I can count on bananas, peanut butter, and sweet potatoes in my diet. These are three of my most favorite foods ever, so I’m glad that I can still eat them during a flare.

I’m thankful for a Get Well card from my CrossFit family. As cheesy as it may sound, the folks at my box are really like a little family to me. It’s nice to know that they’re thinking about me and want to see me rockin’ the WOD as soon as possible.

Question of the Day

It’s your turn! What are you thankful for this morning?

P.S. You still have time to enter my giveaway to win a box of Quaker Whole Hearts cereal! I’m picking 5 winners this afternoon.

  1. Aww this was a really nice post to read, Tina and it’s nice you are trying to maintain some positivity :)! Hope your appointment goes well! I am thankful for my friends- I know it sounds cheesy but it’s amazing what one good conversation can do to uplift our mood!

  2. I’m thankful for the wonderful new friends I’ve made, the beautiful sunshine recently, and for the upcoming week with no classes!

  3. I’m thankful for great family and friends who have supported my crazy life style change and running so late in life.

  4. this is so great, tina!! we have been dealing with some tough medical issues always and i try to remember how thankful i am that there is so much modern medicine can do to help, and also that we can afford it.

    hang in there. happy friday!

  5. Our family was traveling this past week so didn’t know that your health issues resurfaced. So sorry to hear that and I hope things get better soon.

Love your “thankful” post..sometimes we forget how much we truly ARE blessed.

For me…the health and happiness of my family is what I am thankful for. That and a good workout.

  6. Feel better and good luck with the procedure!

I am thankful for my husband who returned home after being away for a few days – it is nice to have him home again (even if he has a bad cold).

  7. I live in the Poconos of Pennsylvania and really dislike winter weather (because I am a nurse, so I have to get to work when I am scheduled to work, and I live on a mountain, so getting off the mountain to drive to work is not always the best time ever), so in my opinion this has been the BEST! WINTER! EVER! Usually, once our driveway ices over, I have to park on the street and hike up and down the driveway with those spike things on my boots (Stabil-icers, I think they are called), but I have not had one day this winter when I could not drive up my driveway. So I am VERY grateful for that.

Hope all goes well today! I am sending good thoughts your way!

  8. i am thankful that i have a loving supportive husband that makes me laugh hysterically every day, thankful for our sweet dog that melts my heart on a daily basis, thankful to have a great job that i actually love, a solid group of friends and family that understand me, and a nice home to call our own…oh and for guacamole because it is delicious!

  9. The pug leg warmers cracked me up! Closely followed by doggie yoga in the alien hat.

I’m thankful I seem to have turned a corner with my pneumonia. You tend to take your health for granted until you’re not feeling so healthy. Looking forward to a great weekend!

  10. Good luck today with the tests, I know they are not fun…but necessary. I seem to be having them every 6 months or so.
Keep fighting and don’t let UC get you down! If you need to chat with someone about it, I’m here. I found it helped talking to others with UC during my big flare last year.
    Happy Weekend! 🙂

  11. Thank you for sharing. This post has inspired me to stop and think about the wonderful things I am thankful for that I usually take for granted. I wish you a speedy recovery!

  12. I’m thankful that my body has let me trained for a second half marathon with no major issues (two weeks to go; I hope I’m not jinxing myself!)

  13. Nice post, Tina. It can be hard to be so positive in a time of such frustration. Keep hanging in there!

I am very thankful for my health (physical and mental)+ current pregnancy. A few years ago I was struggling with an eating disorder and then through recovery was not even sure I would be able to conceive. I praise God every day for my little girl in my tummy – due 5/4.

  14. Hi! I love reading your blog. My boyfriend adores pugs and you have one of the cutest I’ve seen. We recently moved in together and we’re looking into to adding one to our little family. Can you let me know where you got Murphy?

  15. I am thankful to be alive and healthy! There are so many people sick or losing somoene in their lives right now, I’m just thankful that today it’s not me.

  16. I’m thankful that a coworker shared your blog post with me this week. I really am enjoying reading your posts and all the comments. I’ve battled my weight my entire life and in the last year have found myself newly married, with teenagers in the house, and telecommuting. Too much change too fast….. I ate my way through it:):)

  17. I’m thankful for the wonderful friends and family I have. Today though, I’m very thankful that my son decided to stay home this weekend and go with me to a rodeo tonight. 🙂 I’ve still got hope he’ll enjoy horses as much as me but we’ll see.

  18. TINA:
Hopefully the DR will have some awesome news for you…
as for now keep chowin’ down on the pb/banana/sweet potato!

Im thankful for my family & friends & my warm bed & RED velvet cake…etc

  19. Really great post!! I’m thankful that even though house hunting and job hunting in a new city is stressful, I have an awesome partner in my husband and I know that we’ll get it all figured out! 🙂

    Have a great day!

  20. Tina, this is such a sweet post! Good for you girl!

I am thankful for my husband’s unconditional love and support and for my beautiful baby girl!

  21. Hoping your dr. appointment goes well today and you can find some answers.
Today I’m thankful for a warm house, a job that I love to go to, and the fact that I live with my best friends!

  22. I loved this post! Makes you really appreciate everything 🙂 I’m really thankful for all the support from my family, friends and boyfriend especially during this semester in college! It’s a rough one but I know I can get through it!

  23. So glad you are feeling better! I hope you get back to Crossfit soon. 12.2 was an awesome workout. Damn 100# snatches! Those were the end of me!

  24. good for you tina! way to look at the day with a positive attitude! i really do hope things continue to look up for you regarding your colitis and that your doc’s appt goes well this morning. i’m thankful that my mom is in town this weekend! i’m so excited to spend some quality time with her.

  25. I am going to follow your lead and say that I am thankful for this mild winter as well! I live in VT so we also got hit HARD last winter and I’ve been appreciating the warmth and the fact that I don’t have to desnow and deice my car every single time I go to use it!

  26. I’m thankful that I have a stable career with a decent salary (even if the job bores me to death sometimes!) 🙂

  27. I am thankful for my family and my health. I am thankful that my husbands grandpa is still doing ok – he is in the hospital – he suffered a massive stroke due to a blood clot to the brain and then a seizure on Monday. His brain is swelling but he is still hanging in there…..please send prayers but I am thankful he is still here…….Prayers! Prayers!

  28. I hope the dance you mean when you hear “Lonely Boy” is like the one from the music video… If not and if you haven’t seen it… youtube that $hit now. I might be that guy for Halloween.

  29. How did you know this is Colitis and not just a case of having diarrhea? I feel like if I had these symptoms, I would assume I ate something that didn’t agree with me or that I caught a bug. Also, is there a difference between Colitis and IBD?
