Tea Gal

Mastermind Weekend 1/16

Hey there!

I'm Tina

I’m the owner of Carrots ‘N’ Cake as well as a Certified Nutrition Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). I use macros and functional nutrition to help women find balance within their diets while achieving their body composition goals.

An in-depth, 4-week reverse dieting course for women who feel like their metabolism has slowed down, think they might have hormonal imbalance and can’t lose weight no matter what they do.

Good morning! Happy FRIDAY! I started my morning with an especially delicious breakfast.

Last night, a reader asked me if coconut flour could be substituted for almond flour in my Paleo Morning Glory Muffins. I wasn’t 100% sure since I’ve only made them once, so I whipped up a batch with coconut flour. The muffins turned out okay””definitely edible””but I like the almond flour version a lot better.

The coconut Morning Glory muffins were pretty crumbly, so I broke one up and mixed it with banana slices and sunflower butter for breakfast this morning. It was a really delicious combo!

I also drank a glass of decaf Vanilla Rooibos-Chai tea with almond milk.

I went to Whole Foods the other day in search of Teeccino and found it, but, sadly, I discovered it’s made with barley, which is discouraged on the SCD, Paleo, and GAPS diet. BUMMER! I thought this stuff was going to be my go-to coffee alternative.

Accept and adjust.

So, I headed to the tea aisle and had some fun checking out the different options. I’m still avoiding caffeine, so I went with a Decaf Chai and Vanilla Rooibos, which I brewed together when I made my iced tea. LOVE the flavor combination! Maybe I’ll become a tea gal after all?

I almost bought a PUGG teapot solely because of its name, but I decided to save my money.

Question of the Day

Are you a tea person or a coffee person?

  1. I have some caffeine-free Chai Rooibos tea that’s Yogi brand that I love.

I started drinking it when I was on an elimination diet and couldn’t have caffeine, but I liked it so much that I drink it even though caffeine is on my “okay” list.

  2. I adore garnet and sons decaf hot cinnamon tea. Started drinking it when I gave up coffee bc I was pregnant. Highly recommend!

  3. Have you considered cold brewing your coffee? Cold brewing extracts less caffeine & acid than hot brewing and in my opinion tastes so much better. I cannot handle much of the hot brewed coffee myself (stomach ulcers) but have had no issues with cold brew.

  4. i tried the nanner/egg pancake it unfortunately was not for me. i think i need to add flour, milk and chocolate chips and i’ll enjoy it more.

have you figured out what the calories are in the chai? i have one on occasion from SB but i’m scared to find out. they’re pretty good, i’d hate to give it up.

    1. Chai tea? Straight up chai tea has no calories. I think the stuff you’re thinking of is the liquid, sugary stuff from Starbucks.

  5. There are some really wonderful decaf teas out there. My favorite thing to do is make a hot tea latte (just warm your milk in the microwave for a minute or so and then steep your tea bag in it). I have IBS, so I eat a lot like you do (except the nut butters, since high fat is a no-go over here), and thus also drink lots of decaf! One of my VERY favorite teas is Celestial Seasoning’s Decaf Sweet Coconut Thai 🙂

  6. I’m definitely more of a tea person than a coffee person, although I do need that one cup in the morning to get me going. I love green tea all year round, but in the fall and winter I always look forward to pumpkin spice and apple spice. They’re perfect flavors for the cold weather!

  7. I typically drink coffee in the morning and tea in the afternoon. I am CONSTANTLY drinking something at work..right now there are three beverage containers on my desk. whoops.

  8. Hi Tina – I made them last night with Cup4Cup gluten-free flour that I bought at Williams Sonoma. They were excellent. I used the same ratio as your original recipe. I’ve never used almond or coconut flour (didn’t even know they had existed), but I’ve been pretty happy with the Cup4Cup with everything except pancakes (yet, fine for waffles, go figure!). Thanks for the recipe!

  9. I’m a HUGE tea lover (and chocolate…thus why I called my blog ‘Chocolatea’ 🙂 ). The Vanilla Rooibos is one of my favorite teas! So delicious right? I grew up drinking a lot of tea (it’s a Russian thing) and now I drink 3-5 cups a day.

  10. Tina, I had a bad reaction to teecino because if the barley, and then I found out they made a barley free blend called dandelion blend! It us amazing and u live the vanilla nut flavor. They don’t have it in stores though, so I buy it at teecino.com. sometimes they have good sales and free shipping sales. I missed my coffee too and now I have this evevry day!

  11. I’m 100% tea and my boyfriend is 100% coffee. We own a Keurig & a HotShot (boils water in less than 2 minutes). 🙂

  12. Definitely a tea person. I have to add TONS of creamer & sugar to make coffee taste even halfway drinkable! Chai tea & green tea are my favorites 🙂

  13. That Vanilla Rooibos is so dang good! It’s the same kind they brew at Starbucks, in case you need some on the go. And another random FYI, rooibos has been shown to help improve your respiratory system.

  14. Hey Tina! I am a huge tea person…green tea and chai tea are my favorites. I have at least 2 cups of tea a day. If you ever have trouble sleeping at night you should try sleepy time tea…it works like a charm. I am a new blogger and we seem to have a lot of the interest…please check out my blog if you’d like 🙂

  15. Always a tea person, and then I married a Brit and discovered tea had magical powers to solve any and all problems. =p If you liked the rooibos (red bush in Afrikaans), twinnings makes this awesome one with rooibos vanilla and strawberry.

  16. I am a complete tea person. Cup every morning and every night. Of course, caf in the morning and de-caf at night. I love genmaicha, but am recently hooked on this coconut green tea. YUM!

Once a year I pick up the habit of drinking coffee, and that is Fall. Seriously, how can I pass up pumpkin spice or gingerbread coffee!?

  17. Both! I usually have a coffee in the morning and a green tea in the afternoon….the tea in the afternoon along with a small snack helps me hold off until dinner!
